Played 4/9. Afternoon starting time in the dynamically priced twilight tee time slots. Excellent value at $42 w/cart. Weather was mild sunny with light winds.
Just ahead of the high school matches and far enough behind the higher priced times. Didn't catch the group in front of us until the 14th and only had to pause a few times coming home. We did split from the 2-some who joined us on 1 at the turn. Helped POP to 4.25 hrs
Not the usual Fairfield weather in the Pm as the infamous "delta breeze" (25mph + / -) they can regularly get was not blowing. Commented to the marshal if it was this nice all the time it'd be great. Summers can get hot here as locals know, and the wind coming in from SF bay actually helps bring cooling relief for the Sacramento area.
The website boasts CC feel and the largest greens in NorCal. Both are spot on.
Greens in great shape rolling at country club level and condition. Tough par threes 8th had a few too many un-repaired ball marks. I fixed many. Both of us 3 jacked that one.
Distance control and accuracy with the irons helps the score big time here.
Fairways great shape most wide enough to avoid the rough which is penal in most areas even just a foot off the short grass. Bunkers fine sand good coverage.
Other reports from fall 2023 consistent with the conditions now.
The wet spring season had the greens keeper decide to not aerate them until fall.
So it's go time conditions here and will return again soon!

Played Sun. 4/7 @ 8:10 middle group of two-somes and POP was great as usual 4hrs flat.
Cool start then perfect sunny conditions with slight breeze+.
Overall the course is in as good conditon as I can recall. Overheard the guys behind us on the 4th as we tee'd off on 5 (back to back par 5's) confirmed they said it was nice too.
The staff has put in the effort the past couple seasons to "bring it back to what is once was". And it is showing.
Fairways mowed with stripes visible and the differentiation from fairway to rough defined now. Thicker rough in spots and the clover and weeds are much less than previous years. Bunkers have soft sand in most having been done as I've mentioned last year.
Greens are good/great very few ball marks. I rated 8/10 for this venue. Rolling a bit slow. With that pace dialed in rolling real nice.
Tee boxes a few not level (white tees) are looking like they are getting ready to re-do 11 & 14 the two that need it. Others ok.
$47 to walk (easy to) I think is a great weekend value. Easy to recommend at this price point.
VIVID golf towels, gloves and tees are being sold in the Pro-shop now. First course I have seen selling VIVID products.

Played 3/25 in the Gk-Moose event. First time venturing into this area of urban LA for golf.
Sunset Hills exceeded my expectations. Classic 1966 course (Ted Robinson) fit into a smaller area of land. Houses on side of most holes but it doesn't feel tight. Mature trees in strategic spots make accuracy a factor.
Small tees boxes that are in good condition. Well cared for and level.
Fairways close cropped and tight lies with run out despite the rains the day before. Very few wet areas. Rough was cut recently and consistent. The bunkers in good shape with lighter brownish sand at the right depth. Only a few water hazards
The greens how I primarily judge a course.
Mostly smaller side not hugely undulated. In great condition and fast. High marks for the course in this area. As good as any I get to play on and challenging. The better player needs to be below the hole to score well. They require your full attention. Speed and line need to match in order to two putt consistently. Just as you'd expect at a private club. Rated 9+
Sectioned off clubhouse with large pool area with casual restaurant suitable for families where we enjoyed food after. With tennis and banquet facility adjacent too.
Facility updated and modern worthy of membership considerations for area residents IMO.
Easy to recommend and would return again. Another A1 event.

3/17 St. Paddy's play. Early sun up 9 holes then returned for the 2nd loop at 2:30pm by then enjoying a green beer from the snack bar.
Overall general conditions are good for the price point. The bunkers are a bit dark and damp. Hard to define where the fairway to the rough transition is in most spots. I played the ball down and was ok 95% of the time getting what I deserved for a lie.
The greens rolling very nicely on the faster side, both freshly mowed and later in the day. Probably close to the best they get here and it was fun. I made my share so that helped.
As good condition right now to other courses at higher fees. Downhill putts needed touch. The putting surfaces are what will keep me coming back regularly as the warmer spring sun should get the rest of course growing in and dry out the wet areas.
Three holes CPO 2, 5, & long par 3 7th ; I usually walk.
Weather was sunny and mild so a great time had by all.

Spring update.
Course is playing a bit wet and has various areas of expected soft spots and cart routing away from those places. Overall general conditions as expected. Lift clean and place was worthy for enjoyment of the game.
Greens rolled medium to slow for here. Good condition.
Bunker sand damp. Good to play out of with the sand added last year a positive.
Rough was maintained not many plugged balls and those from places you prefer not to play from anyway.
Sunny delightful day. The grill had a delicious breakfast burrito ($12) we called in and picked up at the turn. $47 to walk $62 to ride

Early out Sunday before the waning heat of summers last gas? here, using a golf moose and happily paying the extra $20 following two other twosomes at our desired POP, 3.25 hrs. Quick check-in and off to the first tee ready to go.

Course is in good shape overall and the greens in particular all excellent rolling medium speed.
The bunker sand great and mostly smooth a bit damp easy to play from fairway or green-side. The replacement sand has settled nicely. Just a few untended footprints. Fairways offer good lies and roll for this time of year and the rough is not very long, easy outs. Tees could be better and cut shorter but also playable.

Some ground under repair on the par 5 15th fairway appears to be healing and growing in. Now if the tee box on the 14th (white) could be leveled. I intentionally pick a spot thinking it will help my shot shape and usually my swing mechanics let me down. Leaving a chip and putt for par yesterday. Just need to know your game!

In solid shape and a good local choice. 45 minutes for me or 30 from Sacramento. The location the valley farm country is pleasing to me.

In direct comparison to the nearby relative Rancho Solano a picky reviewer may find minor differences here. Maybe. Like a little dallis grass here and there, or prefer the elevation changes at RS to the relatively flat Paradise Valley. Not this guru?! Playing the afternoon round here in warmer than normal fall conditions was great too. Maybe a bit warmer than I liked on the front 9. We were ready and tee'd off a group earlier than scheduled. Starter was helpful and friendly with that process. Wide accepting fairway on the first hole par 5 and good pace of play on the weekday made it another fun round of golf on the Robert Muir Graves design.
Greens in great shape. Good fairways and the bunkers good. Some of the hazards are dried up and you play out from there if your errant shot gets in there. Didn't get off the tee as well here so the rough affected my distance and score a bit more. Was a bit longer and thicker in spots on the back 9.
Large range area was busy and long and thin practice green between the first and tenth tees right near the clubhouse. A few range balls found there way over the fence onto the 9th hole.
Another good value for the area player. Recommend.

Setting the pace for the day with an early morning start with fellow gurus in Fairfield CA.
Haven't played here for a number of years since they hosted an NCGA event. My first impression was Why Not?
A solid track in all aspects. Good design, routing and variety. I suppose being over an hour from home would be my primary hesitation. Closer to home than Napa area courses and will be considered over those, in the future for the short day trip play rotunda.
Course conditions are above average and better than comparable priced courses in the Sacramento region. Practice green was faster than the course greens, and all in good shape. The course greens were a bit soft and rolled nicely despite a few tracks from the mower. Scheduled for aeration soon with discounts offered during and after the process.
Fairways offered tight lies and definite advantage in roll out and playing from than the manageable rough. Bunkers machined and well kept.
Staff was great and the lunch was also nice. The marshal I spoke to on the 5th hole was polite and reminded us we were the pace setters for the day. We were followed by a three-some and considered yielding to them but the marshal said we were fine.
A great place to play for the local golfer for sure. I'll be back for a Sunday round with my buddy.

Haven't played here in a couple years. Was invited and played in the men's invitational Saturday 11am tee time. Staff is great friendly check-in and practice green and driving range right out the back door near the first tee.
Range has many targets and mats are used. Limited to 200 yards or less so the driver out of play for most. I couldn't recall that last time and found out the fence at the end of the range has falled down exposing the 8th tee box to the long balls. The city has not put a plan or funding in place to rectify this, nor have they repaired or replace the beverage cart instead using a gas powered maintenance gator? Not what the members like and they feel slighted that the sister course nearby (Woodcreek) is getting the $$ and things are neglected here.
The greens are nice and smooth rolling muni-medium speed. The 10th had some damage in front. The fairways ok some thin spots and the rough variable. About what I'd expect. Maintained but not high level. Bunkers no report looked ok, not machined and not a factor in our format.
Enjoy the routing and Theodore Robinson (1963) classic design. First-Flights review describes the rest. Fun for the value and great company with our opponent playing partners Ken and Al. Burger was good from the busy snack shop after round. $12 with fries. Nice beer selections.

A repeat of last week which we attempted two 9 hole rounds at two courses but the light rain held us off from playing here last Sunday. Tee'd off at 6:25 Black Oak GC and finished that nine at 7:32 walking. Then a short ride to The Ridge arriving before 8Am and securing a back 9 round before the early birds got to the 10th tee. Finished this round at 9:25 for a total POP of under three hours! Enjoyed that pace and got us home just after 10am for the early games of NFL kickoff weekend.
Anyway to course conditions.
The greens here seem to be finally at the condition I'd expect. Rolling a bit on the slower side but nicely grown in and few ball marks.
Playing only the back 9 noticed some areas, like front of 10th green for example and other fairways have bare spots mixed with green grass which I didn't recall last time I played. I was in one of these areas on 15 and took a bump then chunked a PW ;(...
Bunkers were wet and the crew was raking the 14th as it seemed a pipe had broken. Maybe the reason some other areas were soaked too?
The wet sand on 17th was no issue as I clipped a 58 degree with spin and check to a back pin and made the 8 footer.
Overall with the cooler weather coming the course should round out to better than good condition soon. As my previous reviews had been expecting and hoping. The 9 hole rate was $45 with cart and x2 for the full round I expect better than good conditions in this area at this $$ level.

Back to the roots of the game and my memories. Played first out Sunday with a 6:10 tee time.
A light drizzle began to fall as we ate our breakfast burrito at the picnic tables (brought with us) under the oak trees near the #1 tee. Tee'd off on time but could not see the ball flight. Like we used to do in N.E. dew sweeping dawn patrol. Play by feel until the dawns early light. Found it in the fairway and made par to start. This week the tee times start at 6:30!
Greens are the highlight here. Enjoy the solitude of out early. We were passed by a single who said he likes running and speed golf on #2 fairway.
Overall no frills and fits the fees at $17 walking.
I call it coming back to my people after volunteering at Martis Camp Sr. Amateur last week. A course I will enjoy as a treat on volunteer day in October for sure.
My go to course to walk and work out my swing for more distance. Lag in process.
Great ownership now, they are working on the little details all the time to bring this course back into shape.

Played mid-morning tee time at the non-resident senior rate of $50 with cart. Joined a friend that I had reconnected with recently for an enjoyable round and conversation(s). Checking the GK reviews noted may last visit was 2018.
Tee'd off on time as a three-some and finished the front 9 quickly where the local resident dropped off and drove home. Total POP 4:10.
Sun City Lincoln was built as an over 55 community in the early 2000's it has 36 holes with the Orchard course the less reputed to the Hills.
Greens were great shape rolling medium speed with few ball marks or other blemishes.
Bunkers decent maintained with decent sand coverage.
Rough variable, what you'd expect.
On to the fairways and "dallis" grass which I mentioned to my buddy would be my theme of the review. The local mentioned it and defined it for us. I thought it was crabgrass but there is an annual and perennial distinction.
It is still prevalent in the fairways and is a nuisance especially the residents. The local rule in his men's group is free relief because it can cause injury. I don't take deep divots and we played the ball down. It has been there for a long time and doesn't appear to be an issue being addressed by maintenance.
The greens in good shape better than most in the area in this $ range.
Natural grass practice range also a plus. The bev cart was out making the loop.
It is a busy facility with many retirees in the community that allows for and has many residents using their own modified carts for play and transportation to and from the courses and to the local shopping. Many have license plates and higher speed modifications for this purpose. Many of the local area streets have cart lanes.
Fun and I'd do it again at the right time and rate. Did not visit the restaurant today, has been good when I have.
