I apologize GKers this review is way overdue. A friend and I had the pleasure of playing this course back in August of 2015 for free. This is my second favorite course in San Diego. It reminded me of CrossCreek and The Journey because of its seclusion on many holes. Very challenging off the tee, requiring shots to be shaped. I cannot say enough about this course and I can only hope to play it again. Immaculate from tee to green. After playing it, I have a strong desire to play more Fazio designed courses. Cheeseburger was expensive, but may have been the best ever.

Played Presidio/Mission on 2/23/16 which happens to be my birthday. Received the Birthday Special rate of $19 includes 18 w/cart and a drink. A cold tap Pale Ale was refreshing after the round. Overall the course was still winter dormant, but very enjoyable. Greens were fast, but a little beat up. Noticed a lot of workers on the course, so I think in a couple of months it will be back in great shape. This course has become my go to course because I always feel like I get value here. FYI, you can play here on the day before, the day of and the day after your birthday to get the special rate of $19.

Played on Sunday the 26th of July and teed off at 1000am. Used the Underpar deal which was a steal at $59 for two players with a cart. I love this course, it reminds me of Stallion Springs in Tehachapi CA. All the oak trees and rock formations make for a very aesthetically pleasing course. Not the longest course, but still very challenging. The course is in great shape, but the bunkers lack proper maintenance. The slight breeze was a delight due to the muggy weather, but did not affect the ball flight very much. GKers go enjoy Mt. Woodson now, it was worth the drive.

Two thumbs up to Pechanga for fixing the 18th green! They listen to their players. I was working there last week and had to do some work on the course. I drove by the 18th green and felt bad I had wrote a poor review of the 18th green because it did not look as bad as I remembered it. The worker I was with said they repaired it because of complaints. To all other courses out there - Listen to your customers! I find so many courses I play could be so much better with what seems to be general course maintenance. P.S. Course looks immaculate as always.

Played this course yesterday for the second time. POP was decent at 4 1/2 hours as a 5-some. A single came up behind us and we allowed him to join on the second hole. If you like Redhawk now is the time to play, the course was in excellent shape. My only complaint would be the bunkers which were wet and had little to no sand. Greens were soft and receptive. This course reminds me of Maderas in Poway with the layout and hole design. Pick your clubs well especially off the tee because the fairways were running fast and furious.

Played today 2/20/2015 for the first time, tee time at 740 am. POP for the first 18 was decent at 4 hours and 20 minutes. This course overall is immaculate. Was told by the starter the greens were running at an 11. I would agree with the practice green and a few holes, but not the course overall. Really enjoyed the views of this course from some of the tees (5,6 and 18 standout) to the several bridges throughout the course. This is not a course for beginners, it will eat you alive. You must stay on the track otherwise you will lose your Pro V1's quickly. I lost a couple of sleeves during the 27 we ended up playing, but my friend easily lost an 18 pack and a lot of skins too. When we finished the first 18 we booked our second round and was told we could not go back out for two hours. Was told they were unusually busy for a Friday afternoon. Okay, so we sat and had lunch. Great food and decent size portions. However, we sat on the patio and watched a twosome tee off about an hour later. I went and asked the man working the pro shop and he told me it was a threesome. I said it was a twosome and would have liked to join them to get our second round going. He was very uninterested in what I had to say and referred me to the starter. Anyways... more about the course. There are some very gimmicky holes on this course 7,9,10 and 18 come to mind. On 7 there is a tree in the middle of the fairway about 210 yards out. Mind you I cleared the tree both times, but the fairway slopes downward after the tree and runs into a ravine; it just seems stupid. Number 9 has trees almost all the way across the fairway from left to right with a narrow fairway on the right with a wrought iron fence running down the right hand side. I hit a couple of not great, but decent drives and found myself sitting behind these huge oak trees. The 10th and 18th greens you have to see just for the laugh. The 10th green looks like an empty swimming pool (on the right side) and the 18th green looks like a skate board ramp my friend use to have in his backyard. This course is well groomed, but I will play Cross Creek, The Retreat or Pala Mesa over this course any day in this area.

Played Chula Vista Muni today 2/15/2015 and took advantage of the free birthday golf. The course was in better shape than the last time I played. Overall the course was very green, but had its usual bare spots in the fairways. The greens were faster than normal. POP is typically slow here. I like this course with all its flaws because it is challenging with a fair amount of water hazards throughout. Sign up for e-mails and get the free birthday round. Same goes for Crossings at Carlsbad which I will be playing on the 23rd.

Played Sunday November 23rd 2014, greens were extremely fast even at 730 am when we teed off with the course being a bit damp from the morning dew. If you play Sunday do not expect the course maintenance crew to be out in front of you, they apparently get Sundays off. The fairways were slightly over grown though did not affect play. Great staff friendly and attentive. POP was awesome at 3 1/2 hours for 18 holes. Challenging course drives need to be accurate. Overall, I was pleased to play this course again.

Played Maderas July 25th 2014, first time playing this course and was very impressed with the course overall. Only complaint was the greens were pretty slow which was due to over-watering. The greens that rolled much faster were the ones elevated and/or had the ability to drain better. This course is one of the nicest courses I have ever played, the design forces you to be accurate with your shots. Therefore, I played a lot more conservative than I normally play. I scored the deal on underpar which included 2 players with cart and free replay for $85. We played all 36 from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Pace of play only got bad on the last few holes. Customer service was 5 star from beginning to end.

Played Riverwalk on 4/5/14. Teed off at 2:15 p.m. Great time to start we finished when the sun was going down. Extremely disappointed with the condition of Friars 9, they have let it go considerably. I used to brag about this course being like country club conditions. Presidio 9 was better. My friend got a deal on Golfnow so we played 18 with a cart for $34. It was a bit breezy in the afternoon which made club selection more difficult. I love the greens here, decent speed, multi-leveled with a fair amount of break. Next time I play here, it will definitely be Mission 9 and Presidio 9.

Played Wed. 6th of November 2013 at 7:30 am. Instantly, the course reminded me of several courses I use to play in northern California. Lots of Cottonwood trees. The greens were hard, rolled true and fairly quick. The fairways were mediocre with a fair amount of dead hard pan areas. The tee boxes were 50/50. The rough was awful. Overall this course was extremely challenging and really could be a hidden gem if they took the time to trim the rough, rake leaves and pull weeds.
