Hello, played in the SCGA event at Dove Canyon today; local knowledge is a must out here, where to aim and place tee shots is of great importance, especially when trying to play to the proper areas of the greens to have decent chances for birdies; greens where in good shape, not overly fast, very fair, fairways a little thin in areas, did get some shaky lies, rough kind of inconsistent, which should be expected, bunkers in nice shape. tees mostly level, with little divot damage; now, the tricky part, they have a GPS system, the good, it showed the hole layouts which should be studied before each shot, lots of hidden bunkers off of the tees; the bad, their yardages on the GPS where at time 10-15 yard off, luckily, I had my Bushnell which had to be checked on each shot just to be sure on proper yardages. a number of elevation changes also must be figured in, example. #17 played 25 shorter due to a big downhill. a good time, did learn a lot for the next time here. Stay healthy, drive safe, CGG...

Hello, played in the SCGA outing on 7/6, Bear Creek starting to shape up nicely, greens are in great shape, as challenging to putt on as ever, fairways are starting to come back, lies still pretty tight, rough, kind of spotty, and spongy, ball tended to sink down some, bunkers, in terrific shape, but, I will be biased; was in one bunker, and holed out from there, tees, nice and level, little divot damage, practice facilities some of the best around. The new owners also own Steele Canyon in SD area; trying to put together some kind of multiple course membership in place, details to be worked out. Stay healthy, drive safe. CGG...

I will basically ditto sixpez review of this course, I also played in the SCGA event today, a few of my observations, very nice practice facility, one of the best in San Diego area, the practice putting green is no way a reflection of the greens on the course, especially when it comes to amount of testing breaking putts you get on this course, bring your gentle touch here when you putt and chip, lots of elevation changes, so choose your clubs wisely, as Mr P said these SCGA events are a nice chance to play some of the better private courses in the area; San Diego CC is one of my favorites, play well, drive safely, and stay healthy...CGG...will play Bear Creek tomorrow...

Played in the SCGA event Saturday, SixPez did an excellent job in his review of this course, although, I did find the fairways to be in rather poor conditions, especially for a private club, drought conditions taken into consideration, typical Robinson design, a few memorable holes, GK'ers should look into playing these SCGA member events, good opportunity to play some private courses, not cheap, but...especially San Diego CC later this year, the short game area alone is worth the price of admission, stay healthy. play well, CGG...

played 11/11. the good, best practice area around. the bad, 3rd out, played in 5 1/2 plus hours, no marshal on course. the starter has no idea what he is doing, GPS went out twice during round, conditions are so-so, but, for what they charge, that is the ugly part, I understand that aeration, overseeding, etc. are still taking shape, but. to charge what they do, One, and done for me...a real disappointment...

played 2/12, greens kind of inconsistent. some putt really true, some are very patchy, a few were way overwatered, otherwise, a nice, course to play, be ready to get some funny bounces, but, that is golf, bunkers were improved from my last visit, tees, also in better shape, course knowledge is key, especially where to aim to play your tee shots, always a challenge to play, join the Crossings Club if you play here , will save you some nice dollars on green fees, Thanks, CGG...

Played 2/11; maybe, the best greens I have played in So. Cal. in years, getting ready for the Kia Tourament, and it shows, some fairways dormant, but, at my age, the extra roll helps, bunkers in excellent condition, nice to be able to play a true bunker shot, tees level, the customer service is second to none; but, at these rates, this should be expected, it seems like I am the only to rate this course; do yourself a favor, and play Aviara, to see what real golf is all about...Thank you, CGG...

played 12/5. got out as a single, first out, rate is very competitive for area, they are trying to get this course back into shape; tees a little long, trying to regrow some of them, fairways a little thin, but very playable, rough some areas bumpy and thick, but, for most of course, rough is non-existent, did not get into any bunkers, so, and the greens putted nicely, a few were being worked on and regrown in some areas, #2 was being aerated, but, overall, greens were in good shape, their range is one of the best in area, did get some new balls in, so that was nice, short game area is one of best in area; give it a try, as a senior, well worth the price...CGG...

played 10/4, first time ever, a nice little challenge, getting ready to aerate, one playing point, a lot of uphill carries to greens, play a little longer to avoid deep, front protecting bunkers, bunkers kind of wet, but, overall a fun course to play, also a lot of uphill, downhill steeper putts, practice a few of those on the practice green, one negative; as we were coming up #9, they put out a two-some in front of us, we caught them on the 11th tee, I politely asked to lady to let us play through, but, she replied " we are members", I would have challenged her, but her resemblance to # 51 Mr. D. Butkus, for safety sake we went to the next tee, I wish courses with the kind of 10 tee set-up would check to see if they let someone out ,without interfering with the flow of play, will play again...

played 9/25; course coming back well from aeration, reseeding etc. some heavy watering going on, tees a little long, but this time of year one has to concede to some course imperfections, #18 green is a definite improvement over the old green, one big complaint is that the mat turf on the practice area JUST will not accept any tee over 1/2 inch, everyone asking each other for short tees, looks like they restocked with some fresh range balls, so that was nice, also, staff is among the best for courtesy, help. etc.

played 9-7. 9-8, 9-9. course in great shape as usual, staff excellent, greens true and fast, fairways showing some signs of wear, rough spotty in areas, one complaint, played three days in a row, and they did not change the tees for all of these days, Sunday, we had a 7:30, the next group was 8;20; how this course stays open is something, play this gem while you can, who knows what the future holds, a real shame to maybe lose one of the best in Ca.

Played 8/6, club membership makes this a real nice deal, greens coming along really well, fairways and rough are in good shape, seems like they put some new sand in the bunkers, bring your high bounce wedge, the new 18th green is a big improvement, always a pleasure to play here, and deal with the staff, Thanks...
