Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played as a single last Saturday afternoon around 1:45PM. Had a two-some in front of me and decided to play alone, playing one ball from the black tees and one ball from the blue tees. It was fairly warm, high 80's and a pretty consistent, 1/1.5 club breeze. All in all, this was a fun track. My ball striking was very good that day so I'm sure it helped with my enjoyment of the course. POP was about 4.5 hours and definitely slower on the back nine. The group behind never caught up to me.
Overall, this course felt like a flatter version of Robinson Ranch Valley course. You have to be very careful of your lines off the tee as there is almost always trouble on both sides of the fairway. However, the fairways are so firm that if you can place your drives in the correct areas, the course is playing way shorter than the scorecard distance. I usually don't enjoy courses over 7,000 but the length was only a factor on a couple of par 4's into the wind, #6 and #9 were playing tough. 3 of the 4 par fives were reachable in two from the blacks and made for good birdie opportunities.
Greens were medium speed but consistent and overall conditioning was good. The big issue I see with this course is the price and the fact that it is not walkable. I paid $80 and I still had to pay for range balls. The rate only dropped $10 after 2PM. Customer service seemed good. Overall, a fun, good test of golf but not the best value. For me, I'll drive the extra 30 miles to Rustic Canyon and play a great course.

Played on Sunday 4/21 around 1PM. I'll have to say that the greens are in extremely good shape considering how recently they punched them. They used those smaller punch holes with a wider pattern and did not appear to sand them. Overall the course is playing very similar to how it was before the maintenance. Tee boxes are good, fairways are firm and fairly fast but also have good turf coverage, rough is minimal (maybe 1-1.5") and generally without pockets or dry patches and the sand is plush in the bunkers I and my playing partners found. Greens were still on the firm side but definitely held well struck shots. My approach shots from around 100 yards out in the fairway would take one big hop and then stop. The greens are slower than they were a couple of weeks ago but I'd still rate them just a little past medium speed and very consistent from green to green.
Pace of play was typically slow for this course on the weekends, about 4 3/4 hours. I guess you can't have it all. I never grow tired of this course, it has the scenery, a sporty layout, good conditioning and it is extremely walkable. Although most people would consider this an 'easy' golf course, I find it difficult to score on. There is enough nuance to the course to keep you constantly challenged.

3/20/13. I haven't played this course in over 5 years but I decided to take advantage of the Bday offer and teed off late morning on a Wednesday. I chose to walk and I was pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. The staff was super friendly and they got me right out. I played as a single without ever catching anyone in front of me.
The course played as I remember it from years ago with some nice tweaks. The black tee box on the par 3's, #8 and #16, were pushed back. #16 is a bruiser from that tee box, especially playing into the wind. I think that is a great tweak as a course should force you to use different clubs on the par 3's. The other change is #11 playing as a long par 4. My only dislike of that hole is the mickey mouse green that was truly meant as a par 5 green.
Course conditions blew me away. Greens were just a hair past medium speed but all 18 were consistent. Not many unrepaired ball marks. Greens were firm but held well struck short and mid irons. Fairways were on the long side but offered great lies. It also helped slow down a few drives that were heading towards the bad stuff. I don't ever remember the conditions being this good at Woods Valley.
I'm putting this course back on my play list.
