I played on Friday, 9/22. I did not read the prior review, but I had a feeling. A buddy of mine was paying for me, so I can't complain too much about that. We had a 2:40 tee time and went out a couple of minutes early, first as a threesome, then a single joined us at Hole 4. Knollwood, IMO, is notoriously slow. However, although the course was stacked up, everyone played without delay, and we finished each nine in about 2:10. We finished right at sunset.

Greens were aerated last Monday and Tuesday. Big hole aeration with a moderate amount of sand. It was not too terrible, and I think it will heal fast. Maybe within another week or two and the greens will roll great again. I was fixing a lot of ball marks as the greens were soft and it seems like folks just aren't fixing.

Fairways and rough seemed very lush and soft. The kikuyu grass was thick in many places and hitting a good shot from the rough was a challenge for me. Fairways were cut just enough to get some good rollout, so that was good.

Bunkers had a decent amount of sand, but nobody seemed to be raking today. I was in a few bunkers and only once I had unexpected hard pack.

We played the White tees and they were mostly level and lush, although a little beat up in some places.

It was a good time playing here, as I have not been here in some time. Maybe it's been a few years. I may have to come back soon.

I played here on Friday, 9/15/23, tee time at 11:50 am. $57 riding. Our overall experience was good, but the greens were beat up. Ball marks on every green; big ones. Most were fresh but some were obviously days, if not weeks, old. I fixed dozens of fresh ones; some of them were mine, others were obviously from the groups ahead this morning. Aside from that, the greens were rolling at a good, medium fast pace. We did purchase beers and hot dogs at the turn; $18 for two each.

It was a slow day as well as there were many groups ahead of us on a beautiful day. We had to wait on only a couple of holes as we just paced ourselves to not push too much.

We played the Avocado Tees (par 72, 6159 yds.) and they were fine. Hole 10 was setting up for an event, so all tees were moved up to the edge of the hillside near One Tee. That was an intimidating shot over the edge of the pond to a back right pin.

The rest of the course was in great condition. Fairways and the primary rough were good. Balls seemed to sit up in the turf and that was a benefit. Outside the primary rough is some really nasty native areas you don't want any part of.

Bunkers were nicely raked and there was plenty of good, light brown sand.

Aside from the ball mark issue, this was a good day of play. I'm sure it was an anomaly because I have never seen so many ball marks here. I hope to not see that many in the future because I will be back.

Played today in a small tournament with fellow GKer, danoemi. It's been a minute since I have played here. It was a decent pace of play and there was a course marshall keeping things moving. The beverage cart came by three times, so we were well hydrated. The round included range balls and I had just enough time to hit some of a small bucket. The members were kind enought to point to the low (crappy) end of the range way past 1 Tee. No time to hit any putts, but I did okay.

The greens were soft and a little on the slow side of medium. A light morning rain may have contributed to the slowness because it seemed to get faster as the day wore on. There were several fresh ball marks from the previous groups, but I easily and quickly fixed them.

The fairways were on the shaggy side, but good shots rolled out okay. Not a lot of divots and there were very few bare areas.

The rough was fairly thick. I found it challenging to make decent contact with the ball unless it was sitting up. Coupled with the narrow fairways, I had a tough day.

Bunkers were very nice to look at, but you really don't want any part of it. Soft sand, high lips and it was a tough day from the sand. Many of the bunkers have a lot of tall, native-like grass plants that will swallow your ball, so be careful!

Tees were great. We played the White and Red tees. All good and level. Very few divots there as well.

Customer service in the bar/snack bar was great. Beers not too expensive either. I would like to come back and do better.

I played in the event yesterday, and I don't have a lot to add to Mark and Gary's reviews. I felt the conditions were really good overall, despite there being several areas in the fairways that were overly wet. I also noticed some thin turf areas around many of the bunkers and some areas that needed refurbishment (punched areas around some green/bunker complexes). These were not too terrible but may be an indication that the recent hot weather caught them off guard.

On the plus side, I really liked the revamp of the course. Good use of tons of boulders around the water features made those hazards really stand out. I also liked all the new bunkering; however, it does require some thought as to where not to hit your drives.

I played the White tees. They all seemed very level, but I did think that there were some that were very firm and placing a tee took a little effort at times. No biggie. Well worth it for how level they were.

Bunkers had great sand, but they were kind of wet and I needed some time to get used to it. Lucky for me I was in about 10 bunkers.

The fairways and rough were excellent to hit from. Maybe some tight lies here and there but overall, it was great.

The greens were the best part of the day. Nice undulations, soft, and fast. Great conditions there.

I look forward to my next visit here.

I played here last Friday with Noel and his regular group. My first time on this course. I have to say I do like it. It's very inexpensive to play here. I paid $38 which included green fees, cart, and a burger with fries for lunch. Not bad!

The course was in great shape. Much more hilly terrain than I thought I would find.

Tees (we played the white tees) were level and lush. Not too many divots on the par threes. Fairways and rough were in fine shape with lots of lush turf and good coverage most everywhere. Bunkers were decent, but the sand was wet, coarse, and tricky to hit from. I tried to finesse my ball out of a couple with about a 50% success rate. A couple of the regulars seem to favor explosion shots. The greens rolled at a medium fast pace and seemed to speed up later in the round. There's lots of undulations and most of the greens were elevated in relation to the fairways. It was very challenging IMO.

All in all, I thought this was a really good course and Noel's regular group of guys were all pleasant and I was not upset that I had to give up $20 for the side games, lol.

I played here Sunday, 6/11/23. 8:20 Tee time, going out as the third group in a four-group tournament. I have not played here before, but I did play the #2 course about 15 years ago.

Greens were great; soft and fast. Not a lot of ball marks; the ones I found were new and were easily fixed. Putts rolled great. No bumpiness and a little undulation to keep things interesting.

Fairways and rough were in good condition. It was cart path only on Hole 1 and Hole 18 and maybe a couple of others. The fairways were nice to hit from; not too tight and soft enough to take a pro-sized divot. I had good lies mostly all day; however, there was an occasional area of deep rough that prevented me from advancing my ball much. The lesson there is keep it in the fairway, right?

Bunkers were groomed nicely and the sand was in great condition. I found a couple of bunkers and had no trouble getting back out.

Tees were all level and in good condition. Maintenance crews had filled divots on all the tees with a nice mix of sand/seed/mulch. Too bad the sand bottles on the carts were empty.

We all went to the clubhouse after the round to settle the tournament scores and award prizes. Most ordered food and I thought the food was good, but service was a bit slow.

This is a nice course and I'm somewhat surprised I haven't golfed here very often. I guess I will have to come back.

Played here today. First out at 6:30, paying $75 to ride. The course is under new ownership and is undergoing reconstruction of the back nine. Hole 8 is also under construction and you skip this hole, playing Hole 9 as Hole 8, the Hole 18 as Hole 9. Yeah, it’s wonky. The scorecard reflects the proper yardage and par. I’m told that they expect to get it all up and running by November 2023.

Overall the course is playing well. There’s some new turf here and there and maybe some areas that looked a little dry. Maintenance personnel were scrambling ahead of me, working on bunkers and setting up the course. Greens were aerified a couple weeks ago and they are healed in already. The bunker sand was nicely groomed and was pure white and soft.

It will be nice to see this course come to life. They are offering public tee times. Great customer service. Everyone I had contact with was friendly and helpful.

I played here this last Saturday, using a Teeoff.com voucher. I think I paid about $40, including cart and range balls. Weather wise, it was on the cool and breezy side. Lots of sun and about 60 degrees with a steady 15 mph breeze. The course had aerated greens as of April 17, so it's been more than a couple of weeks. The greens have not yet healed completely but are very close. They told us it was cart path only because they were trying to get the turf to come back. Our group included a couple of locals and we did not really adhere to the cart path only request. I did not see a big deal here, as there were no areas that were overly wet.

Pace of play was about 3.5 hours.

Greens rolled good enough. Because they weren't healed from the aerification, it was slightly bumpy at times. The speed was good; fast but not too fast. Maybe rolling at about a 10.

Fairways were good. Not a lot of problems with tight lies or bare ground; however, they could establish a thicker turf with some more irrigation. We were told that they did chemically treat the turf for weeds, so don't lick your balls.

Rough was deep in some spots. I noticed some areas of clover which made it hard to find a ball because of all the white flowers. The further you got from the fairways the worse the conditions. It could be deep rough, weeds, or dirt. Outside of that you are in the desert.

Tees were all level and fairly nice. There was adequate coverage of turf, not too many divots and mostly easy to place a tee.

Bunkers were just okay. Some had small rocks, many were wet and looked hard, but for the most part they did play okay. I was in a couple and I had little problem getting out.

Overall, for the price, I was happy. The pace of play was great and I got out for around $40. I know they do have decent food, but I opted to head back home after the round. I would go back for the low price. If there were no discount, my choice in the area would be Rancho Vista.

Played today at 7:50. $42 riding, cart path only. Slow pace at just under 4 hours. As expected, the course was well-moisturized from all the recent rains. The cart path crosses a small creek in four places. The turf in those areas was obliterated but those areas should not come into play.

Greens were running slow and had a small amount of bumpiness. Obviously they were not mowed today. On the bright side, they did hold shots well. Not many ball ball marks either.

Fairways (there are only 7 par 4s) were mostly good. Nice coverage except for a few thin areas. Not a lot of rollout, but it was early and the ground was wet.

Rough was a real mixed bag. It varied from deep fescue to thin coverage or bare ground. Some areas were still draining water from yesterday’s storm.

Tee boxes were mostly level. Markers were moved forward and spread out over the entire width of the box. Not too wet or thin, so no issues there.

Bunkers were a bit of a mess. Wet, packed sand and occasional standing water. I was in two bunkers and was fortunate enough to get out nicely.

Overall, it was okay and nice to get out with some work buddies. I’m sorry it seems like I am the only one reviewing this course. It’s been a long time since I have been here.

I played here Friday morning with my old pal and fellow GKer, Tony. 9 AM tee, $55 senior rate, Desert-Mountain nines. In the old Robinson Ranch days this would have been the back nine on the Valley and the front nine on the Mountain. The Mountain nine plays as it did back in the day. Definitely more established turf, although it is dormant Bermudagrass. The courses are seeing a lot more play recently and it shows.

Greens: Lots of ball marks to fix, but mostly they aren't too bad. The greens now are very firm and most of the marks were shallow. The speed was fast, probably around 11-ish plus. With the many undulations on the greens, it allowed for some interesting putting lines depending on your speed. Very challenging.

Fairways: Good roll out on most any drive. Even bad shots seemed to get good yardage. There were plenty of divots to fix and the sand bottles had just crappy sand, not even nice, clean sand. Never mind any seed, mulch or organic matter mixed in like you see in really nice courses. I guess you don't want to mix other grasses in with that Bermuda. With that said, there is a good mat of roots and it does make for a good hitting surface. There was an occasional tight lie.

Rough: For all the good fairway grass, the rough was that and more tightly mowed. It doesn't hold your ball, so if your shot is off line or gathers into a down sloped area, it can run off into the junk.

Tees: It's a mixed bag. We played the whites and some tees were hard to place a tee, many were unlevel, and nothing was lush by any means. It just made it more challenging to find the right lie and stance.

Sand: Bunkers were a mixed bag as well. Most were raked nicely and had a decent amount of sand. Some bunkers were totally not maintained with damage from recent rains. For the most part, they were playable.

Overall, the experience is as nice as you can get around Santa Clarita this time of year for $55. Check in was efficient and employees seemed pleasant. Pace of play was right about 4 hours. I think the course needs to go back to the original 36 holes and drop the idea of a resort that the City and nearby residents will not allow. It definitely needs more tlc, water, and maintenance. Maybe some minor redesign to make it a little more forgivable for the average golfer: you know, lots of nice grass, deep rough, maybe widening the fairways? Right now, the $55 rate may keep me coming back. I can golf cheaper elsewhere, but I have to factor in the travel time and gas money.

I played on Monday with the GK/Golf Moose event. The previous reviewer was spot on and there's very little for me to add, but I'm a-gonna try!

I found the greens to be on the smaller side. There were a few ball marks here and there as well as some minor repairs. However, nothing too bad and it did not affect my putts. The speed was really nice: fast, but not too fast. Many greens are elevated in relation to the approaches, so knowing what to expect is helpful.

Tees, fairways, and rough were in great condition. Some holes were relatively flat from tee to green, while others had a lot of elevation changes. I really never had a bad lie; just a bad swing. Sorry to one of my playing partners, John. I shanked a short pitch into his back! Eventually, I started using my putter from well off the green and that seemed to work.

Visually, the course is beautiful and winds through a very nice residential neighborhood. Yeah, it's tight in some spots, but it was forgiving and much of the tightness was really a visual trick. I found the course to be very well maintained. I enjoyed my time here with fellow GKers and the course personnel were great to chat with. Thank you, Johnny, Golf Moose, and LPCC!

I played here yesterday on a TeeOff.com deal, paying about $35 for a round at 11:00 a.m. Unfortunately, it was a slow round and I had to leave early. Although the course was in dormant condition, the playability was decent. There was plenty of cushion on the dormant grass and the greens were receptive to most shots. Also, the greens were very fast and putting downhill was challenging to say the least. This course is definitely a desert layout. Not a lot of elevation changes, but not totally flat either. Most of the greens were small and they were somewhat elevated in relation to the approaches. The fairways were narrow at times and keeping the ball in play was a challenge for me. I managed to find my ball when I did spray it and I was able to punch it back out to the fairway each time. Tees were nice and level and the bunkers were well maintained. The course personnel were very courteous and friendly. There is a good selection of beers in the clubhouse. Trent in the pro shop was super friendly and he did say the course is open for public play.
