I was invited out by a friend of a friend to play at Shadowridge yesterday afternoon, July 20, 2018. This review will not be a review of the amenities, staff, etc but solely of the golf course and its conditions.

Tee-Time: 4:15pm
POP: 3:15 (1:30 front 9, 1:45 back 9, 1:00 second time on front 9)

Greens:
The greens here were very awesome and rolled super true. Very minimal ball marks but being so late in the day there were footprint marks around the cup. Greens were on the faster end of greens in San Diego at this time of year, but on the slower end of private courses that I have played in the past. Overall, some of the most true-rolling greens I have ever played and was thoroughly impressed. The were also fairly firm but receptive to shots.

Fairways:
Great fairways with no bare or soggy spots. There was one hole with marked ground under repair but it didn't seem to have any issue. Fairways were semi-firm and good shots were rewarded with a decent amount of roll and good lies for approach shots.

Bunkers:
Bunkers were all very uniform from fairway to greenside. These bunkers consisted of the darker, heavier sand that is more coarse than I am used to but they had enough sand to get under the ball without much effort.

Rough:
The rough was really interesting here. It reminded me of the rough at courses in Palm Springs where it doesn't look long but its just super fluffy and your ball will sink down into it. In the end, the rough was pretty punishing if you missed into more than the first cut.

Overall:
This course was amazing in my opinion. It was a great mix of distances and types of shots required. There were a lot of risk/reward situations without all the gimmicky setups that tend to accompany risk/reward situations. If you have the opportunity, check it out!

Oceanside Muni is a fun course and in my opinion a great value...where else can you play Saturday morning for $42 with a cart San Diego? The course isnt all that challenging but there a few holes that really test your driving ability due to length and placement.

Greens:
The greens are arguably the best feature of this course. They are always really well maintained and roll very smooth and true. They are firm but very receptive to all of the approach shots I hit today.


Fairways:
Great coverage on the fairways especially for this time of year. Everything was very green because they use 85% reclaimed water so they dont have the same restrictions on water use. There was a turf reduction program that took place years ago which removed a lot of grass between fairways so some misses (wide misses) end up in pine-straw or dirt.

Bunkers:
Bunkers were all very uniform from fairway to greenside. They had enough sand to get the ball up quick near the green.

Rough:
Some areas of really thick rough (ball completely buried) and other areas about 1 to 1.5" deep. Punishing rough in places outside the first cut.

Overall:
I love this course. It is a great place to play on the weekends if you want a fast round (only mornings) with some interesting holes. Check it out if you havent but make sure to fix all divots and ball marks; the regulars here work very hard to keep this muni in the best shape possible.

Couldn't pass up playing here for $30 on Fourth of July (btw, Happy 4th Everyone!) Conditions are about the same as my previous review from mid-July so I wont be changing too much from that course review.

Greens:
Greens were very soft and quite soaked. They are starting to flower a bit so they were evening slower than when I was hear a few weeks back. A lot of the greens had standing water on them and the cup on the 18th hole was filled to the brim with water.

Fairways:
The fairways were really rough. They ranged from completely bare dirt to minimal coverage with some actual spots that had fairway grass. Some areas had some dried grass which was the easiest spot to play off of.

Bunkers:
Bunkers varied so greatly around the course. On some holes they were hard and rocky, others had sand that was so soft you couldnt get anything but a plugged shot even when it just rolled in. They need to do something to the bunkers because it seemed like everyone single one of them was a different sand/gravel/mud mixture.

Rough:
The little rough that was here is now just dirt and pine straw...good luck stopping a ball if you miss a fairway (or even hit a fairway in a bad spot)

Worth the price for the holiday but I dont think I will be coming back for a while. The conditions have degraded since I was there last month and I was hoping they were on the upswing.

Started work early and left early so I had some time to sneak in a round later in the evening. Looked at the tee sheet online and it was totally open so I had to get out and play. Interesting thing to note is that this course is pushing a "pay-per-hole" app. I didnt look into it too much but will research more later.

Greens:
The greens were on the softer side and approach shots left very large ball marks. With the soft greens and playing so late in the day, the greens rolled really bumpy. More than average amount of unrepaired marks left behind on the green. Greens rolled much faster than I anticipated given the firmness.


Fairways:
Great coverage on the fairways especially for this time of year. Some of the edges of the fairways were yellowing but who cares...the landing zones and approach areas were firm but allowed for nice divots.

Bunkers:
The bunkers were all over the place. Fairway bunkers seemed crispy with some small pebbles. Greenside bunkers varied from fine white sand to clumpy dark sand...just really depended on which hole you were on.

Rough:
There really isnt too much rough on this course and where it existed I did not notice it on this time around as a lot of tee shots were hit with irons or hybrids. The course is fairly short and very tight so balls that miss the fairway tend to get lost in the woods. There were a few fairways that I missed here I ended up in a dirt area with clumpy grass so if that is the rough, it was in bad shape.

Overall:
I love this course. It is a fun target golf course with amazing views. Most holes are secluded from others so it feels like you are on an adventure as you traverse the hills in your cart. There is also a super long wooden bridge that snakes across a canyon which makes for a really fun journey.

In a continuing quest to find a decent affordable course halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles so I can play with my LA friends, I stumbled across a recent review on here for Glen Ivy and it said that the course was in excellent condition. I was worried at first because the last time I played at this course it was scorched but today it was really awesome! It is a totally different course and had changed for the better!

Greens:
The greens rolled pretty true with the exception of a lot of fresh un-repaired ball marks and footprints near the pin. They were pretty wet and soft through the first 5 holes but they dried out and started to pick up speed after that. The practice green was not reflective of their course greens at all as it was much slower.


Fairways:
Fairways were mostly lush and well groomed with the exception of few bare spots in random areas that were a little outside of the optimum landing areas. There were some parts on the front 9 that did not drain too well which resulted in plugged tee shots and casual water, but overall they were in great shape and pretty firm.

Bunkers:
Bunkers were awesome; greenside and fairway. Unfortunately I found a few of both today so I got firsthand experience with them. Fairway bunkers were a little firm (which I like) so they were easier to pick the balls out of. Greenside bunkers were lush with enough sand to play whatever shot was required for the pin placement.

Rough:
The rough was about 1-2" long varying by location with the longer rough typically near the bunkers. The rough was easy to get a club through and tended to be a bit more forgiving than the grass I am used to playing in San Diego. Both my buddy and I kept getting "flyer" lies in this rough which was pretty fun.


Overall:
I definitely will be back to this course, especially with the golfmoose deal offered on this site. One thing to note was that the driving range is under construction for them to add shade structures and solar so dont plan on hitting balls beforehand.

I play crossings a few times per month with my usual group and always first off in order to get done quickly. Pace of Play was 3:30 (but keep in mind this was first off) but from what I could see at the turn and when finishing up, it would be significantly longer at any time other than early morning. If you havent played here before, there is a lot of cart driving time between certain holes. Walking is not allowed due to the amount of travel distance.

Greens:
The green at Crossings are always very nice and some of the faster greens in San Diego when comparing similarly priced courses. The one fault with the greens is that early in the morning they tend to be on the softer side...not spongy but you can see footprints on most. The are very receptive to approach shots and roll very true.
*one thing to note is that a few of the greens looked like they had been "micro-punched" recently as there was a very faint grid pattern showing through but it seemingly did not impact the ball's roll.

Fairways:
Some of my favorite fairways are at Crossings since they tend to always be soft enough to get through very nicely with an iron, or even driver off the deck when needed for the long into the wind par 5 sixteen. Lush fairways with no bare spots that I came across.

Bunkers:
The bunkers were redone within the past year and are very nice with soft white sand. There are still a few fairway bunkers that have the older brown sand but they tend to be fair to play out of.

Rough:
They appear to be letting the rough grow out a bit which is really nice since it makes the course a little more penal for misplaced tee shots. The rough here typically is about 1/2" to 1" but there were places now that were up to about 2" in depth which was awesome.

Definitely recommend this course as it is really fun but a bit gimmicky with some of the greens having multiple tiers. It is a fair course but will punish you badly if you are out of position or have a misplaced approach shot.

Decided to head out to this course on 6/19/18 because I had a day off from work and had an afternoon to kill. Headed out for a 2pm tee time since the tee sheet was completely empty. I had a good round but the lack of rough and dirt fairways made it a little tough to gauge where the ball was going to end up, especially on the dog leg holes.

Greens:
The greens were arguably the best part of this course, albeit they were relatively soft and slow. Balls didnt quite plug but they could have easily with just a little more moisture on the green. The rolled pretty true where the ball marks were repair correctly but you really had to swing at the ball to get it moving.

Fairways:
The fairways were really rough. They ranged from completely bare dirt to minimal coverage with some actual spots that had fairway grass. Some areas had some dried grass which was the easiest spot to play off of since you werent slamming irons into the hardpan. It looks like the grass is trying to come back but it just cant.

Bunkers:
The bunkers were hard-packed and had some really large rocks in them. I ended up pulling some baseball and lime size rocks out of a fairway bunker I found myself in. I decided it was best to just pick everything super clean in all the bunkers after launching a pine cone up from under the sand in one of the greenside bunkers as I played my shot.

Rough:
The rough was non-existent. Ended up playing severely shorter on dog legs to account for massive hardpan fairway rollout and no stopping help from the rough.

Even with all the rough conditions of this course, I really enjoyed the layout. It was a fun course that if it gets back in shape can be really excellent. It is a fun track with a variety of holes that can make you run through all the clubs in your bag.

Was first off on the back 9 with my buddy this morning for a quick round before work. They recently have been working really hard to get this course back into good shape. The new greenskeeper has really been making some awesome strides.

Greens:
Greens were punched a little over a month ago and have come back very nicely. It is nice to have receptive greens on this course compared to the rock hard greens they were before the aeration. We were out making dew lines so they rolled a bit slow; however once we got to 18 it had been mowed that morning and was still relatively slow but not horrible.

Fairways:
The fairways are in great shape right now with a few bare spots from where water has pooled and the grass has died from cart action. It seems they are letting them grow out a bit as they were a bit longer than usual.

Bunkers:
Was only in the greenside bunker on 11 but it was pretty hard packed and wet.
