Played Rio Secco on Friday June 3rd with a 7:30 tee time. Part of the Double Down package with Cascata, $599 to play both courses. Tee'd off right on time with another single, playing the white tees. I did notice that the front nine was much shorter than the back nine and that figured significantly in my enjoyment.

While not as spectacular as Cascata, Rio Secco is pretty darn nice and I probably enjoyed the layout a little more than Cascata. Elevation changes weren't quite so severe and I just found it a little more forgiving. Conditions were almost as nice with smooth greens, great fairways, level tee boxes, and sand in the bunkers (yahoo). I will play here again.

My only complaints are the pace of play and the difference in difficulty between the 2 nines. To take over 4 and a 1/2 hours as a 2-some is painful. We played thru one 2-some that didn't belong on the course and then caught a 4-some that had no clue about golf etiquette continually parking a cart in front of the green.

Played the white tees, which were about 3,000 yards on the front 9 and 3,400 on the back 9. Furthermore, it seemed the back 9 had many holes playing into that day's wind. When I play again, I would play the white tees on the front 9 and move up to the gold tees on the back 9.

Highly recommended!

Ventured out to LV to tick this one off the bucket list. Interesting location, seemingly not near much of anything. Booked the Double Down which includes Cascata and Rio Secco for $599, ouch! I read the prior reviews for Cascata and had an idea of what to expect. It really is over-the-top and well run experience. Course was obviously in good shape and it is an impressive layout with lots of elevation changes and the fore-caddie is enormously helpful. For the money I paid, I felt conditions were acceptable but not pristine. I remember one green had some spots without grass, but it did not affect play. Fairways were like carpet, tee boxes were good, and bunkers actually had sand (what a pleasure). So much undulation in the greens kind of hard to say there were fast, but if you were putting towards the valley, they were speedy. Greens were very true with little ball mark damage.

Pace of play was 4 and 1/2 hours, but we weren't waiting and no one was waiting on us. There are some long drives between holes.

Is it worth it? The regular rate is $549 and in my mind it is over-priced. Add in Rio Secco for only $50 more and it is a lot less painful. I will say I put less value on amenities and the forecaddie than someone else might. Also, with a four-some and only 1 caddie he was sometimes challenged to help us all. Not his fault in my opinion. Glad I did it (a 40 on the back nine helps), but not sure there will be a second time.

More on Rio Secco in that review.

First time playing with Johnny GK and ARP (hope i got that right). I found LRGC to be a new favorite and broke 80 for the first time in many years. After a few months of poor play, having a career like round was a pleasant surprise and probably affects my opinion of LRGC. From the moment you drive in you feel like you are at a very upscale course. Service is awesome, people are helpful, and the carts are the nicest I have seen recently. Range balls are included and every ball I hit looked fairly new. Just a real nice facility and people.

The layout is just short of spectacular with no 2 holes remotely alike, lots of elevation changes, and while the course can be visually intimidating, I felt it played fair. Conditioning was superb with very nice greens that had consistent speed, fairways that were lush, and level tee boxes with limited divot damage. Bunkers had good sand and were playable. Rough was dormant Bermuda, not thick (usually), and would prevent balls from rolling into the desert.

The carts appeared fairly new and warrant a mention. They have a new type of GPS that looks like an iPad and has all the bells and whistles and a great screen. One additional note, is that you need to use the cart to call for beverages. We didn't figure that out until hole 17 I believe.

Really enjoyed my playing partners, especially watching Johnny GK smash some amazing drives followed by a dazzling implosion (sorry Johnny, it made the round all the more entertaining).

For the $75 we paid, I felt this place was a steal and I can't wait to go back. Very highly recommended.

First time at a GK event and it will definitely not be my last one. Used to visit Laughlin and the Mojave Resort fairly regularly but that was 15 years ago. So was excited to make a return a visit. Sadly conditions weren't the same as they were 15 years ago. I enjoy this layout, but there are more houses encroaching than there used to be. In the past conditioning was close to pristine, this time I would call it okay, not quite to good. Tee boxes okay, not great. Fairways good, but some thin lies. Rough non-existent dormant Bermuda that was frequent very thin and would not stop balls from heading astray. I felt the greens were in nice condition, but not overly quick. All staff encountered were friendly and cart lady was by multiple times on each 9. Range balls were included and grass range was okay if not a little thin.

Would I recommend this course? For the $55 that we paid I felt I received fair value. However, for my dollar I would prefer to play Laughlin Ranch twice unless I knew Mojave Resort was in stellar condition.

Keep it in the short grass.

Hello fellow GKers, I rarely post reviews as I am just plain lazy. However, I recently played Strawberry Farms and noticed a dearth of reviews. Since my experience was favorable I felt a review was warranted.

Played Sunday 1/24/2021 with a 7:08 tee time booked thru GolfNow. Interesting that the course wanted $175 online to book, while GolfNow was $155 plus a $3 Convenience Fee. This is outside my usual price range for golf, but given recent challenges getting times I said "What the heck?" Fortunately upon checking in at the course I was charged $99, I gladly paid the lower rate and headed to the putting green.

Maintenance was mowing the putting green and when finished the speed was very quick with some significant slopes. Uh oh, I might be in trouble as recent putting woes have been a real problem.

Went to load up on a cart and head to the tee (on time) and the starter was busy wiping down all of the carts that were still wet from Saturday's rain. I appreciated the effort being made. He apologized for the inconvenience. I was impressed.

Joined up with 3 other gents on the tee, 2 of which were the epitome of "ready golf" almost to the point of being a little careless. They were good guys so no harm was done. As a result of our faster play we did a fair amount of waiting and finished in about 4 hours 20 minutes, which isn't real good when you are the 4th or 5th group out.

Course conditions and layout were to my liking. Tee boxes and fairways with good coverage, probably an 8. Greens were excellent, quick, sloppy, with a modest amount of ball marks, I'd give 'em an 8.5. Personally I like the layout a lot, it had been 20+ years since I played it last and I had very few memories of the course. I felt it was reasonably forgiving off the tee, with a fair amount of bunkers. The bunkers actually had sand in them and were great to hit from. Unfortunately, no rakes and due to the rain they were not smooth at all. Oh well, having actual sand made up for the lack of care.

For $99 on Sunday prime time in Orange County I felt like I got reasonable value for my money. At $155 or $175 I would expect to see bunkers in better shape and a Marshall out pushing players to play a little quicker. Frankly the two speed demons I played with should be giving lessons to other golfers on playing quickly.

Played Coyote Hills 12/21, 3rd group out, so pace was good but we still took 4.5 hours. The guys in my group just seemed to take their time. It had been many years since I played this course so I was looking forward to giving it a try. First off you will be struck by the dormant fairways. Not visually appealing and the lies are fairly tight, but I found them ok to play from. There were a lot of divots in the fairways. Rough was pretty modest, but was splotchy so it could be difficult to play from. The greens were in pretty good shape and were not overly fast unless you were above the hole, then it became a nightmare. I played the black tees which were roughly 6,000 yards and this is not a long hitter's course. Accuracy off the tee is far more critical than distance.

Overall, I enjoyed the course. Given this is Orange County, the $90 seemed reasonable, but compared to some other courses in SoCal, it is a little on the high side in my opinion.

Played Sunday 5/6 at 11:50am as part of SCGA Member event. Service was top-notch, beautiful facility, but that is kind of where the positives end. Free range balls, but the balls were horrible and range grass was cut very thin. Course itself is quite a challenge with lots of elevation changes and lots of places to lose a ball with a wayward shot. Course is generally in very good condition, tee boxes are leve, fairways are lush, and lots of sand in bunkers. Greens are in good condition, but are ridiculously slow for a top-line golf course. Saw cart girl numerous times and she was great.

Pace of play was a choke at 5 hours. Group in front of us was a joke playing from the blue tees and taking their own sweet time. Marshall told us there was no one in front of them, but they still played ridiculously slow. We were a group of 10-20 handicappers and waited on every shot due to these bozos.

I paid $119 through the SCGA with a $20 food credit, at that rate the course is a decent value. But when I note their regular non-resident rate of $170 during the week and $210 on the weekend, the course is exorbitantly overpriced. Played Moorpark County Club and their weekend rack rate is $120 and that is every bit as nice a golf course as Maderas.

Would I go back? Nope, not unless I had a special rate and knew the greens were of a legitimate speed.

My thanks to the SCGA for putting on the event.

Played here 1/2 and the conditions were about as nice as I have ever seen. I find this course to be very enjoyable and it seems to play a lot easier than its reported slope. We also played Silverrock and Desert Willow and the course conditions were far better here than those courses. Not that those courses were poorly conditioned, but Eagle Falls was clearly in the best shape of the 3. The greens fee of $95 seems reasonable when compared to other desert courses. Pace was a tad slow at 4.5 hours, but that is what you get on a holiday weekend.

Played here on 1/1. Only 20 golfers out that day, so pace was fantastic. Tough course, especially with the wind. Good layout, that is well maintained. Greens were very fast and very hard. Bunkers had too little sand, but that is not unusual when a course gets a lot of wind. Rate on New Year's was only $60 so I felt this course was a relative bargain. If you are in the area it is worth playing here.
