Made the trek out to San Clemente on Veterans day. This was my first time playing the course. The course looked busy, but the pro shop got me second up when I checked in on the waiting list. Played with 2 locals and another who was a first timer like me. The advice they gave me helped out a lot in that putts broke to the ocean. The course was very windy and got gusty toward the end of the round. The course had good coverage, it was not immaculate but the fairways had grass, the rough had thicker grass, and the greens were somewhat green.
Tee boxes were good except 1 was moved up due to damage or alot of play in the regular teeing area, some of the other tee boxes had some divot damage but it was nothing a tee couldn't fix.
Fairways had grass so it was good. Some areas were marked off as GUR and there were some areas that were damaged.
Greens were bumpy and medium fast which I could not believe because the look of them made me feel like they were going to be slow. There were some divot damage and all of us fixed a couple on each hole.
Pace of Play was about 5 hours but was expected since it was a holiday round. Next time I will try this course early in the morning.

Walked on as a single for 530. Was back in the car heading back at 9 so pace of play was no issue. This was my first time playing this course and I enjoyed the layout and for $23 to walk it can not be beat. The conditions of the course from tee to green was great. Only a couple of places on the fairway had some divot damage. Played the black tee so the tee boxes were great with no divot damage. The only negative about the course were the bunkers. The sand was not consistent with some clumps of dirt, but that could have been from the morning.
The greens were nice and firm. It played like I think it's supposed to hold mid to short iron shots with spin and roll out shots hit with a long iron. Putts rolled true and held their line.
Today the 14th hole played to about 95 yards instead of their usual 145 with what looked like a small green I don't know if it's a temporary green. But the original green looked nice from the tee box.
Overall enjoyed the course and will be back to play again especially for that price.

First round here in portland for the summer. Got out by myself at around 6 was back in the car before 9 which is a great pace of play. Walked for $27 on an early bird price. Course condition is good compared to some dried out course back home. Fairways were covered in green grass but not soggy. Greens were medium speed in the morning I had to fix about 5 to 6 ball marks each green, so it's not just a cali thing.
It was good to get back out on this course since it's so close to the in laws house. It feels like my own country club early in the morning. Will of course be back since this will be my home course for the next month.
They changed the par of the 11th and 14th hole. 11 is now a par 5 while the 14th is now a par 4. This made more sense since it's weird to have a 414 yard par 5 even if it's straight uphill.

Played on Saturday in a match play at 716 tee time. Got off the 1st tee about 20 minutes later than schedule. Pace was almost 5 hours with some waiting due to a group of PGA tour pro wanna bes playing the tips. Of course they should not have been playing there, but oh well.

Conditions were good, and like Bradcoop and i stated people complain about the fairways and rough not being green and turf being hard is that the course is designed to play that way. It is supposed to play like a links course, so the grass will brown. We liked the way the turf was.

The pins were all red because of the aeration they had before, but the putts rolled medium fast and true. There was just no variety since everything was playing as a red flag.

Bunkers were great in that the sand was plenty and you could get under it.

I enjoyed playing this course once in a while due to the fact that non resident walking on weekends are 59 dollars.

Played on Sunday the 22nd with the "jack rabbits" as the first group out. Pace of play was not an issue since there were nobody in front from the front 9 and the back 9. Was back in the car and on the road before 10 to spend the rest of the day with my wife and kids.
Conditions were great for what people should remember about Victoria. Tee boxes were level and had grass, so there were always a good lie. Fairways had grass and there were not as many bare spots as victoria is known for. Rough was not penal at about .5 to 1 inch thick grass, with some bare dirt areas. Greens, which are the best part of the course, were rolling good and held their line.
I could tell the maintenance crew was working real hard to keep this place from going back to its old self. I enjoyed this round and will be back again.

Got out on Sunday at 1 while the family went to Sea World. Walked on as a single and was put on the Friars/Presidio course. I wish I had time to book through Golfnow because they only charged 34 while walking up cost 45 with cart. Was a fairly busy day with the Friars 9 taking about 2.5 hours waiting on every shot. When we got to the Presidio 9 it sped up and we actually finished in 4 hours and 20 minutes. I guess the 3 groups ahead went to the other 9 holes.
Conditions: Tee boxes were level and had some divot damage but not alot. People need to use the divot mix next to the tee boxes on par 3s. Fairways were tight and thin with some bare spots. The group I was paired with who were from New York wanted to know if all courses in Cali were like this. Rough was not too thick and it was not penal, so you could easily get a club on the ball. Traps had good sand but had some rocks mixed in. Greens were very fast and if you were on the wrong side of the hole then lagging any putt near the hole was impossible. Course knowledge comes in very handy.
I actually liked the Presidio 9 better than the Friars 9. I would like to try the Mission 9 next time I am in the area.
I enjoyed killing some time while the family was having fun so I enjoyed the round. Next time I will come prepared.

Got out on Sunday in the early morning as a single. Was paired with 3 local players at around 630 before the rain. Pace of play was great finished before 11. Tee boxes were level and had grass. Fairways were dormant so it was a tight lie which I like. Rough was minimal so it was easy to get a club on the ball. Greens were rolling fast and you need local knowledge around the greens if you want to score. Thankfully the marshal gave me a tip about the green speed and breaks and finished the round with only 28 putts. I like this course a lot and the locals were telling me that they have noticed that less people are playing this course than before.

It has been awhile since I have played but I am here in portland for winter break. Had time in between cold snaps and decided to play at redtail on the 22nd. Got out for 24 dollars walking which is their winter rate. A couple minutes earlier and I would have paid 18, there early bird rate.
The course is very soggy so I had to play winter rules A's balls would plug. Tee boxes were good level but very soft due to all the moisture. Fairways very soft everything would plug and you got no roll on drives. Rough is good about 2 inches thick. Greens rolled slow due to being wet but held its line.
Pace of play was great for the front nine in that I played in 1.10. Back 9 was a different story in that I caught a slow foursome. It got so slow that 2 other singles caught up and we played a a 3 some the rest of the round. I enjoyed playing my first round in awhile. Hope to play 2 more rounds before I head back home from winter break.

Got out to goose creek for the first time and man is this course nice. Everything about the course is immaculate, from tee to green. I do not know how they keep the course green seeing that we are in a drought. I can not complain about anything except for maybe how far it is from my house.
Pace of the course was great started at 637 finished and in the car by 10. Greens were great in that they were fast but still held shots. Putts also rolled true since there were no divot marks on the green.
Fairways were pristine and rough was not penal. Was never in a bunker but playing partners complain sand was too wet.
I will bback to this course more often.

Played the first match against Caligolfer on Sunday. Had a 745 tee time but did not tee off until around 8. Pace was good in that we finished around 12. Had a great day and it was fun playing with Caligolfer.
The course is nice from tee to green. Fairways were great with no real divot damage. Tee boxes on some holes were a little too fluffy for me. Greens were medium to fast and they looked like it rolled true. Rough was not too penal but there are a lot of trees to contend with if you strayed from the fairway.
I, personally, like this course better than the players due to conditions. It is an easy tract to walk. The course is not too tough because everything is straightforward for you, but it does get harder later in the afternoon because of the wind.

the course is coming around nicely compared to what it was before. They only have one temporary temporary hole in number 7 while the other 2 holes (11 and 13) are back to its original par 4. The course was pretty empty. Tee boxes were nice with not too much damage, fairways are good with some areas that were still dirt. The best part of this course are the greens. They roll medium fast and true. This course must not get a lot of play now in that there were hardly any ball marks on the green. I fixed a couple on some holes but not a lot.
Hopefully all the hard work the maintenance crew is doing to keep grass here pays off because I really do enjoy this golf course. will be back to make up for the horrible round i had.

Played today as the second group out. Pace was great except for first 2 holes since it was played in the dark. Tee boxes were nice level a little too fluffy for my taste. Not a lot of divots since they moved the tee boxes from the weekend.Fairways were lush and always had a good lie from there.Rough was not too thick but the grass does catch the club sometimes.Bunkers were soft in the 2 I was in. It was easy to get out of and was able to put spin on it.
Greens were tore up in a lot if spots. This is not the fault of the course but from the lazy people that played over the weekend. I was fixing about 6 divots for every green and in some there were gashes. I cant believe the way some people treat golf courses. Had a fun round other than that.
