Walked the Blues this afternoon 8/3/2020 at 1:50pm with John, Ron and Sal(very nice to meet you Sal!). POP was just over 4 hours with temps in the mid 70's with a slight breeze.

COVID-19 precautions included no rakes, foam insert in cups, no ballwashers and masks in the pro-shop. Range was open with mats and looks like they are re sodding the putting green. Friendly staff inside the pro-shop including friendly starter on hole 1.

Greens were the highlight of the course putting and rolling very smoothly. Hardly any ballmarks to be found. Loved the greens and they looked like they might have just been rolled. They were receptive to shots with a high trajectory and spin. Rating the greens a solid 8 bordering on a 8.5.

Fairways were semi-lush and have improved some since my last round. Some very minor wet spots and a few dry spots but overall playable and decent. Rated 7/10

Tees mostly level and lush. Couple tees you had to hunt for a level stance but overall in above average shape. Rated 7/10

Was in greenside bunker on 7 that was nicely raked with a perfect amount of sand to splash out of. Rating this bunker 7/10

Rough was thick in most spots but manageable. Rated 7/10.

Even though I played well not my favorite layout. Only 3 par 5's is a minus in my book. I do love the back nine here. 16/17/18 are fun holes to finish on.

Conditions were good today and the greens were in the best shape I have ever seen them. I would recommend Sterling Hills right now. Above average conditions in most facets of the golf course and great green conditions.
Out this morning 8/3/2020 at Soule Park joined by buddies Pedro, Johnny and Ron at 7:20am. Rode the Oak Tees in about 4 hrs 15 minutes with beautiful morning weather turning a bit hot on the back nine. Think we were the last group right before their senior men's club.

Covid-19 precautions included no rakes in bunkers, foam inserts in cups and masks needing to be worn in pro-shop and just outside when ordering food. Restaurant was open for outdoor seating and we had burgers for lunch which were delicious. Mats on driving range, nice big putting green and a separate chipping green. Always super friendly staff and looking at their rates online this is probably the best bang for your buck in Ventura County.

Conditions were fantastic.

Greens were rated an 7.5 out of 10 closer maybe to an 8/10. Very nice receptive soft surfaces with some ball mark damage on some of the front pin placement areas. Last 2 greens had more ballmarks than usual. Overall though very nice shape.

Fairways were an 8/10 bordering on a 8.5/10. I would say Olivas Links and Soule Park have the nicest fairways in Ventura County. If you are in the fairway you will find a green emerald lush lie.

Tees mostly level and lush with just some minor divot damage. Rated 8/10. They re sodded the back tee box on number 4 and it looks and plays great.

Rough mostly green and lush and in good shape. Rated 8/10.

Bunkers here are beautiful. Was in just one greenside bunker on 3 that was raked and contained perfect sand to splash out of. Unfortunately with no rakes walked by many bunkers that had footprints. Rating the bunker that I was in a 8.5/10.

Absolutely love the layout here. Peaceful golf with some birdie holes like 4,5,9, 11 and 18 and some tough holes like 6 and 8. Fun course to let the driver rip and some challenging big green complexes with some potato chip swales.

Architect Gil Hanse has a beauty here and Keith and his staff have really shined in keeping up this beauty.

Highly recommended.
Walked the Blues late morning 7/27/2020 teeing off at 11:50am joined by Matt and Ken. POP was 4 hrs 20 minutes behind a packed tee sheet. Weather was mid 80's with a slight breeze.

Tees were excellent lush, mostly all level. Rated 8/10.

Fairways were semi-lush with some run out. Rated 7/10

Greens were soft, receptive and I would say a 10 on the stimp. Rolling very nicely. Still have foam inserts half way down cup due to COVID-19.

Greenside rough is super lush and beautiful just outside the fringes 9/10

Fairway rough is dry and spotty and generally thin with a few lush spots here and there. Rated 6/10

They just punched the back nine fringes with holes but it didn't bother play much.

Was in greenside bunker just left of 3 pin that had harder compact sand that was still easy to blast out of.

Just love coming out here for the unique challenge that is Rustic Canyon. Love my home course. Recommended.
Walked the blacks today 7/20/2020 around 12:40pm joined by Gary and Dina a super nice couple and Austin(a Div 1) golfer who was so fun to watch. Look for his name in the pro/mini tour ranks in the next several years. Had a great time today with a pretty steady 1-2 club wind which is normal for out here and nice temps in the mid 70's. POP was almost 4 hrs 30 minutes. Olivas really does have wonderful welcoming staff and a great practice area. They fit Austin and myself into a jammed tee sheet. Also appreciate the 10 minute tee off intervals

Greens were rolling very nicely today with a little more pace than my last round here. Very receptive to irons. Fixed a extra couple of ballmarks. Rating the greens a 7.5/10 today.

Fairways are lush to very lush and in great shape which they always are out here in the summer. Rated 8.5/10

Was not in any sand bunkers today but playing partners were and described the sand as super soft beach sand. There were a ton of footprints that I saw walking by the bunkers. But with COVID rules and no rakes not much you can do.

Tee boxes were super lush, level and in great shape. Rated 8.5/10

Rough just lining the fairways was nice and thick and lush. Anything outside the cartpaths here is big trouble unless you find a dry spot. Rating 8/10.

Love the layout here. #11 and #13 make the blacks tougher than average holes. Hit a 4 wood on number 13 to 20 feet today(par 3 that was playing 240 with a back pin into a 15-20 mph wind).

I would highly recommend Olivas Links to all golfers. Recommend booking a tee time as the course is very busy.

Thanks to Olivas Links for a great time!
Got out last night for a quick 9 holes walking the blues on the front nine with my buddies Pedro and Matt. We teed off just after 6pm and finished with the sun setting. Beautiful weather in the mid 70's with a slight breeze.

The greens are firmer and in great shape since my last round out here. Fixed an extra couple ball marks but they rolled beautifully. Receptive towards high shots with spin. Rated 8/10

Fringes were mown tight, semi firm and in good shape.

Fairways were semi-lush, mostly green and in good shape. Plenty of roll for low ball flight players even with semi-lush conditions. Rating 7/10

Tees mostly level and very nice and lush. Rated 8/10

Was in greenside bunker pin high left on 3 that contained firmer sand but enough sand to easily splash out of. Bunkers here are firmer than most courses. Rated 7/10.

Greenside rough just beautiful and lush in most spots(8/10). Fairway rough decent, some lush spots, some thinner spots(6/10).

Greens, Tees, Fairways, Fringes and Greenside rough are in great shape right now. Highly recommend a play right now.
Played 36 holes with my buddy Nick today 7/13/20. Rode the golds 6913/73.3/127 this morning and then replayed the Blues 6471/71.1/122 in the afternoon. We used the underpar voucher. 1st round beautiful weather and we had blustery wind conditions during the second round. But overall beautiful high 70 temps. Our POP for the first round was just over 3 hrs and second round we played in 3 hrs 30 minutes at a comfortable pace never really waiting nor being pushed. Got to chat with the GM and staff inside the pro-shop before the round who stated even with COVID their rounds are up and the course is generally busy every day. Alisal has a range with mats right when you drive into the facility that is hidden. They have a nice big putting green and a beautiful patio for lunch that was packed. I had the Reuben pastrami sandwich in between rounds which was killer. COVID-19 masks required in the pro-shop and when walking to your table on the patio. Single rider carts and good thing my buddy had a measuring device on his phone as the course was not marked with any sprinkler head yardages that we saw which is a negative for old school walkers with no GPS. No ballwashers and no rakes in the bunker and the pins had foam at bottom of the cup.

Had not been out here since August of 2009 when I played here for my bachelor party weekend. This is a beautiful course that is set in between mountains and vineyards. Layout has some up and down holes with a couple beautiful elevated tees to let the driver rip. As far as the layout is concerned several treeline holes, some holes to thread the driver through a narrower chute, some grip and rip holes and some dogleg holes. I found more holes here that fit a draw off the tee. A very enjoyable layout. 2nd time here and both times the wind blew good in the afternoon portion of the day. Holes 4 and 7 are very tough holes and if you can make par on those two holes you are ahead of the curve.

Greens looked beautiful to the naked eye and putted medium pace and I felt were soft and semi-receptive. My buddy had a great putting day and I witnessed how to read the greens. I think there is overall less break here than the eye sees. Green size was ample and there was some greens that had some nice swales and humps. We loved the greens and they were the highlight of the show. Rated 8/10

The tees were not so great especially the back tee boxes. Most were sloped and had dips and canal lines running through them. You had to hunt for a level stance and they should level some of them out(#7) back tee box comes to mind. I thought the blue tees the 2nd round were a little better. Rated 6/10

The fairways were better than average. Most parts were lush, some thinner areas. Overall we did not encounter a horrible lie. Rated 6.5/10

The rough was in good shape and lush around the greens. It did not look that high but would nestle down some just around the fringes. Fairway rough was not as green and lush as the greenside rough. Rated 7/10

Was in 2 greenside bunkers that looked firm on the top but actually had a nice base of sand underneath. Rated 6.5/10.

We really enjoyed ourselves here. Nice layout, friendly staff, above average course conditions and good food on the patio. For sure would recommend the Underpar voucher deal that they have going for 2 players.
Walked the Oak tees this afternoon 6/29/2020 as a twosome with Pedro teeing off at 3:20pm and finishing in 4 hrs playing through one group that was nice enough to let us play through on number 7. Weather was perfect low 70s with a one club breeze. Very friendly starter with a nice big putting green, nice range with mats and separate putting green. Covid-19 masks worn in proshop at check in. Bar and restaurant open taking orders at outdoor counter.

Well when the range turf is super lush and green you know you are in for a treat. Most fairways were super lush, super green and I would say almost Palm Springs/PGA tour quality. Best I have ever seen Soule's fairways. Rated 9/10.

Tees were Super lush. Don't say this often about tees but they were almost too lush and thick?. Very level teeing grounds and the back tees that I played had no divot damage. They have 5 sets of tees here to suite any player. Rated 8.5/10

Greens were rolling great. Medium to quick pace and holding shots beautifully. Only number 17 green in the front section had many old ballmarks which we tried to repair as much as possible. Huge Gil Hanse greens here with many(up to 8) different areas to put pin locations in. Green rating 8/10.

Rough semi thick, super lush and green and in great shape. Rating 8/10.

Was in greenside bunker on 7 and fairway bunker on 17. Bunkers here contain very soft thick beach sand. Maintained very nicely but there are no rakes so with as big as the bunkers are here there is many opportunities for many footprints. Rated 8/10.

I just love this course. It just has always fit my eye, is always in great shape, is very affordable on the wallet and has a great layout and peaceful setting. Recommended.
Got out for 9 holes last night with my buddies and GK members Matt and Pedro. We teed off at 6:10pm and walked the back nine blue tees in 2 hrs 10 minutes behind a father and couple of junior players. Weather was perfect around 70 and no wind. Rustic is beautiful during super twilight with the sun setting in the distance over the hill on 16.

The fairways were nicely padded and provided beautiful lies for the most part. For how hot it can get out here course is doing a good job. 7.5/10

Tees were level, lush and beautiful. 8/10

Greens were rolling nice. Soft on high approaches with spin. Fixed an extra share of ballmarks waiting on the groups ahead of us. 8/10

Was not in any bunkers so can't comment or rate the bunkers

Rough was decent, some lush spots, some thinner spots. 6.5/10

Fringes were super soft and wet. On 12 I launched a drive that carried to the front fringe on the fly and maybe rolled a yard. Good information to know if you are planning to hit run up shots on this course.

I would highly recommend Rustic right now. Fairways, greens and tees in very nice shape.
Rode the green tees with Mrkich this morning for 36 holes using the underpar voucher. Beautiful weather, one club breeze and in the low 70s for most of the day. Played with a very nice twosome on the first 18 and we joined a very cool older gentleman from Arizona on the 2nd round on hole 5. Pop first round was 4 hrs. Pop 2nd round was 3 hrs 30 minutes.

Covid-19 pins had little metal red stakes that you could lift your ball out of the cup. No ballwashers, no clubhouse entry, bathrooms and grill was open. Had the Glen Annie burger in between rounds and it was delicious. Very friendly staff. Driving range mats only with range attendant loading and bringing range balls to you. Putting green was open. Very friendly vibe here.

Greens were super soft and receptive. They putted better than they looked. Fairly true roll with a little bounce on the greens here and there. Some of the greens were flat and big while others had some potato chip swales to negotiate. Very cool shared green complex on 4/7. Green rating 6.5/10.

Fairways had ample padding. Mostly lush, few thinner spots but not bad at all. Rating 6.5/10

Tees were very lush, mostly level. Rating 7/10

Rough was a mixed bag of green lush, some wispy dry stuff. Rating 6.5/10.

Was in 3 greenside bunkers. All fairly raked. Wet firmer base with enough sand. I enjoyed hitting out of them. No rakes. Rating 6/10

If Tierra Rejada has a sister this would be the course. From the tips it is 6400 yds or so but plays just a tad longer up and down hills. Fun course where not every hole is a driver hole but other than say hole 3 you can hit driver if you like on every hole. Holes 1, 9 and 17 will challenge the best of players. I would recommend the course but with La Purisma, Rancho San Marcos and Sandpiper nearby it's a tough sell as a first or second recommendation in the area.
Walked the blues today 5/11/2020 at 12:35pm with JohnnyGK, RGM2525 and Kviser on a beautiful high 60's day of sunshine and some swirling at times 1-2 club wind. Perfect day for golf. We waited on the group in front of us for most of the round but enjoyed each other's company with a POP of around 4 hrs 35 minutes.

COVID19= pins left in, foam insert half way down cups, no ballwashers, no entry to clubhouse, putting green currently closed, no rakes. Range open with mats. Bathroom facility open attached to clubhouse. Very friendly GM and staff here and the course is getting a lot of business and is in good shape.

Greens were very soft, receptive and putting medium paced. Need to give your rock a good rap to make them on these greens(several putts in our group right on line left short). Rated 7.5/10

Fairways mostly lush with only minor burned out spots, some wet spots in some low lying areas. For the most part nice fairways with ample padding for your irons. Rated 7/10

Tees mostly lush, mostly level with a couple boxes that were sloped. Always could find a level spot if you hunted enough for them. Rated 7/10

Was in one greenside bunker on 16 that contained a firmer based sand that was nice and raked and easy to splash out. Looking at some of the other bunkers walking by they seemed to contain enough sand and be in good shape. Rated 6.5/10.

Rough was anywhere from 1-3 inches and in some spots thick. Playable and manageable and in pretty decent shape. Rated 7/10

I always say I wish there was an extra par 5 on this par 71 layout. Front nine has some solid holes that challenge you like 3 and a thinking man's hole like hole 6. Hole 17 is a great long par 4 into the wind that will challenge the best of players. A good mix of grip and rip holes at Sterling Hills and some holes that narrow in the landing area and take some thought on placement. They have some cool raised green complexes that are guarded. I would recommend Sterling Hills right now to each and every golfer.
Walked the blue stones this morning 5/4/2020 at 10:50am joined by a nice 2 ball(Larry and Yung and single(Mark). POP was 4 hrs 45 minutes not waiting one shot and not being pushed by anyone behind us. For that long of a round it was weird both not being pushed or pushing anyone in front of us. Great staff inside the shop as always. Driving range open with mats. Weather was low to mid 80's with a 1 club breeze. COVID precautions walking only, flagsticks were left in with foam cups just below the surface, no ballwashers, no rakes, no tee markers out today, no restaurant service but cart gal was by numerous times on a hot day.

Rustic is in great shape at this time. This is usually the best time of the year for conditions at Rustic. With the course closed down last month they really have grown the fairways in, grown some of the fairway rough in, and the tees and greens are awesome.

Fairways are lush, padded and in good shape. Rated 7/10

Greens were medium pace, soft for Rustic's standards and in great shape rolling pure. Rated 8/10

Tees were beautiful, level and lush. Rated 8.5/10

Greenside rough beautiful 9/10

Fairway rough improving some 6/10

Was in greenside bunker on 4 that contained firmer sand but easy to splash out of. No rakes at this time due to COVID.

Highly Recommended.
Walked the Blues this morning 4/27/2020 joined by Ennis, Jim and Tom. Super cool dudes to play with. Let them know about GK, hopefully they will join. Our POP was 4 hrs 40 minutes. Weird thing though was we were not pushed and we did not wait much on the front nine but the back nine we waited on the group in front from hole 13 on. We didn't care though as it was 70 degrees with a 1 club wind with almost perfect conditions and we were golfing.

Social distancing protocol done very well here. Putting green and chipping green closed, range open with mats. Proshop closed off where staff would meet you, take credit card payment only and hand you your card back on a disinfectant wipe(awesome). Bathroom facilities were open next to the trailer. I did not check if they were open on the course. Starter on first tee giving social distancing regulations and course procedures. Very nice touch. Cups were regular size with a little plastic or metal piece put just below the cup so that putts would fall in the hole but just not to the bottom of the cup. No flagsticks, ball washers and no rakes in the bunkers on the course. So if you are worried about COVID19 I would not worry at all at Olivas they are doing a great job and have everything safe and marked off. They even have a box of lines for players to stand for most tee boxes to keep distancing.

The golf course is in outstanding shape.

Greens rolling medium speed, very healthy greens, soft on approaches. The time off really helped eliminate all the old pitch marks on the greens. Probably the healthiest that I have seen the greens in some time as far as no ball marks. I have seen the greens quicker but they were a treat to play on. Rated 7/10

Fairways--wow super lush, great coverage. All lies in the fairways you are sitting up with a perfect lie. Olivas always has beautiful fairways in the summer. Rating 8.5/10

Tees super lush, all level and in great shape. Rated 8.5/10.

Was in fairway bunker on 12 and greenside bunker on 18 that for no rakes were in good condition. The sand quality was good. In order to keep them in decent shape starter instructed all players to level sand off with their feet after they play. Bunker rating 7.5/10

Rough just off the fairways was lush and in great shape. Penalty areas were Bethpage Black up to 5 foot tall beautiful flowers and vegetation. I took some pics on my phone of the penalty areas with all the wildflowers. If you are past the cartpaths here even with a good eye you could be in the vicinity and still not find your ball.

Can't give this course enough props--Highly recommended.
