Played here today with a 1:20 tee time. $53 to ride. Paired with a walking single and a riding twosome. Started right on time and pace was great early, then really slowed down around the fifth hole. I'm not sure if some groups quit later on or what, but it picked back up the last 4 or 5 holes. Total POP just a bit over four and a half hours. Sun broke through a couple times but mostly cloudy, cool, semi-windy day.

Conditions are pretty great. Greens are smooth, medium-fast, and medium firmness, accepting full shots well. Fairways are excellent except for areas clearly marked as GUR. They provided great lies. The rough is in a little lesser condition but overall pretty lush, although you might find some bare spots here and there. Blue tees were good except a handful of holes that were sanded pretty extensively. The sand was only in certain spots (not the entire tee box), so I'm not sure why they wouldn't just move the markers on those holes for a few days. I was in one bunker and it was really nice; a couple inches of loose sand on top of a firmer base underneath.

I'd been missing this place with no GK Plays in June this year, and then when I recently played Corica Park up north it felt very much like a poor man's Olivas to me, so I was happy to get out there. Also, I hadn't played here since the rainy season that made some of the hazards into actual lakes once again. As Gary mentioned in his previous review, there are still lots of wildflowers bordering the course and it's really pretty, even though today's cloudy skies didn't really allow the course to come to life, visually. Always love this place, though. Definitely recommended.

Played here again today, two weeks after my last visit. 1:21 tee time, started just a couple minutes late, pace was about 4:40. I rode, the rest of my group walked. One of our players bailed after nine.

Course is in really nice shape. Looks like they verticut the greens at some point recently (looks like razor blade streaks across the surface) but it doesn't affect putts at all. The greens are still very firm and medium speed. Fairways are pretty consistently great. Rough is less consistent with some discoloration and varying depths and conditions of grass. Some of the rough takes a toll on ball striking, so there's a premium on hitting the fairways. Blue tee boxes were all good. I was in several bunkers and they varied from decent to thin; I wouldn't say any of them were good or great.

Gorgeous day and perfect temps with a decent wind most of the day. Highly recommended.

Played here today with a 7:40 TeeOff.com "Deal" time booked a few days ahead for approx. $60 with cart. Arrived about an hour early, checked in smoothly and was told I could start early if I wanted. Played behind a twosome but tried not to push them, hanging back and taking pictures. POP was great; a little under 3.5 hours. My cart's seats were embroidered "San Luis Obispo Country Club" and the cart paths are the weirdest paths ever... There are rounded curbs on both sides of the paths, and then typically the grass is mounded around the paths, so every time you leave the cart path, the cart partially feels like it's going to tip over. Seems like whoever built the paths didn't understand that cart paths don't have curbs. Truly bizarre.

Conditions were quite good, especially the greens. They are smooth, fast, and firm with some good undulations, both subtle and pronounced. There were some unfixed ball marks but otherwise they are great. Fairways have mostly good coverage and provide pretty tight lies. The fairway on hole 12 was more beat up than the others. The rough was in good shape and varied from short to penal, and then there's some really long stuff around the bunkers that I fortunately avoided. Black tee boxes were good. I wasn't in any bunkers but they looked good and maintenance was out in force tending to them.

The layout is somewhat reminiscent of Olivas Links and also reminded me a bit of Royal Links in Vegas. I didn't like it quite as much as those courses, but it's pretty solid. I was happy to have a GPS app because some holes aren't very obvious where they go. Would be a pretty easy walking course. Recommended.

Played here today with a 6:30 tee time that I booked a couple weeks ago for a $20 surcharge before their normal public booking window opens. Then an additional $117 for greens fees and cart today. Started right on time, paired with two other singles. One of them walked, one rode. There was one group in front of us who apparently play here all the time and they were very fast. I don't think we saw them after the first hole, although around 14 a twosome did pop in front of us. I think it was a playing lesson with the pro or something, though. Pace was great and we finished in almost exactly 4 hours. Absolutely gorgeous morning although a little chilly and windy.

Conditions are outstanding. Greens are in very nice shape. They roll medium-fast and can get really fast on downhill, downgrain putts. They were soft enough to accept full shots well, but not super soft. Fairways are excellent except some muddy spots in some low-lying areas. Primary rough varied from around 2 inches to 4 inches deep and was extremely lush. Farther offline there are tall grasses that felt sorta like chopping out of the barranca at LACC in the recent U.S. Open. Black tee boxes were mostly great; some showed signs of somewhat recent aeration, but not a big deal. The gorgeous bunkers were all in excellent condition. Holes 1 and 12 were CPO.

I've wanted to play this course ever since it went public in the mid-'90s and it definitely lived up to and even surpassed my expectations. I really loved it. Didn't hurt I got a picture-perfect morning. There are tons of elevation changes, doglegs, short par 3s, long par 3s, gorgeous views, beautiful bunkers. Very cool history of the course, too, with it dating back to the early 1900s. It's very much a "pure golf course" in that no homes or anything else gets in the way. It felt very much like a private club to me. One of my favorite "new to me" courses in quite some time. Highly, highly recommended.

Played here today with a 7:30 tee time. Paired with a threesome consisting of a dad and two kids probably 12 years old. The kids started off walking but then hopped on our carts starting on No. 7. Minimal waiting and good pace, finishing in just under 4 hours. Cool and cloudy with a couple short periods of mist.

Course is in pretty good condition. The greens are healed from aeration but still very firm. They roll mostly smooth (some look better than others) and medium-fast, and especially fast downhill/downgrain. Only high, spinning full shots would stop quickly; everything else released and rolled out somewhat. Fairways have good coverage and provided good lies. The rough varied from just a little longer than the fairways to some fairly thick stuff that was definitely penal. Blue tee boxes were fine. I was in several bunkers and they were pretty good.

Recommended, but go in knowing the firm greens are making the course play tougher than normal.

Played here today at 1:03 with a TeeOff.com "Deal" time for about $55. I think I nabbed it before they realized it was Memorial Day, because later in the week additional tee times (later in the day) were around $91. Paired with a nice couple from Carlsbad. Started right on time and pace was good early but slowed considerably after a few holes. Total time on course was around 4:45/4:50.

Conditions are mostly good. The practice green is about halfway baked out and halfway good, and the greens on the course were similar, but oddly they rolled pretty good. (The starter said they're closing Stadium on Wednesday until mid-July because the greens are totally gone. He had no answer when I asked how they plan to get the greens back in shape right when summer temps hit.) They are medium speed (slow uphill but can get fast downhill) and medium firmness, mostly smooth. Fairways had good coverage and were mostly really nice. Rough is semi-thick bermuda that was about 3 inches deep at the most penal. Blue tee boxes were really nice on the front nine and then much more spotty (and some aerated) on the back nine. I was in several bunkers and they were well maintained with a thin layer on top of a firmer base.

Overall, the course is pretty good for early summer, but it's still spring for another few weeks, so I'm sure there are many better maintained options in the area right now. (The couple I played with also played both courses at Mountain Vista over the weekend and said they're in great shape.)

Played here today with a 1:15 TeeOff.com "Deal" time for a great price of about $35 with cart. Took my chances on a 6-hour round to play close to home and for a great rate, and it paid off. POP wasn't too bad for a weekend out here, about 4:45 total. Paired with another single and a twosome. I hadn't played here in just over 5 years and they seemingly added a Clown College next door in that time, with train whistles and horns sounding on a nearly non-stop basis much of the day. (In reality, it looks like they added some sort of kiddie train to the adjacent park, but it really is loud.) Estancia HS also had some sort of sporting event happening that had fans cheering and shouting all afternoon.

Conditions are good and could be even better. Greens are great; smooth, medium-fast, and very accepting of full shots. Fairways have great coverage but definitely weren't mowed today and I sorta doubt they were mowed yesterday, either. Pretty sure I've played courses this year with rough shorter than today's fairways. If they were mowed, they'd be excellent. As is, they were still good but all shots stopped quickly after landing. Rough was longer than the fairways, but still not quite penal. Blue tee boxes were in nice shape with the markers edge to edge on each box, giving tons of options to tee it up. I was in two bunkers and they were both similar: a thin layer of good sand on top of a pretty solid, mud-like base.

Definitely recommended!

Played here today with a 12:50 TeeOff.com "Deal" time for around $60 after 20% off promo code. Things were running on time and I was paired with another single and a twosome. POP was a little slow as expected for a weekend at Industry Hills, but not too bad at around 4:50 total. Sunny, hot at times, and hazy, with a little breeze later in the afternoon.

Conditions are pretty great! (Seems like this is prime time for course conditions everywhere, right?) The greens show the tiniest bit of evidence of aeration but roll smooth and fast, and accept full shots really well. People need to fix their ball marks but otherwise the greens are great right now. Fairways have really good coverage and are pretty firm and fast. Rough is well defined and a couple inches deep, enough to take spin off the ball and make you think. I was in one bunker and it was decent. Blue tee boxes are currently the lowlight out here. Many had big sandy areas and tons of divots. Some are good, but enough are bad to rate them poorly.

Ike looked to be in similarly good condition and I'd love to get out there while it's good. Definitely recommended, especially at "Deal" prices.

Played here today with a 2:10 TeeOff.com "Deal" time for about $43 after promo code. Paired with another single and a twosome. POP was a little slow on the front with lots of waiting, and then we had no one in front of us on the back and it was still a little slow. :-) Overall POP was around 4:45. Absolutely gorgeous day with perfect temps, although it did get really windy for a few holes late in the front nine.

The course is in great condition. Greens are about 98% healed from late March aeration. There are some spots where you can see a little visual remnants and others are fully back to normal. I was surprised how firm they were for being recently aerated. They ran around medium speed and it seemed my playing partners got some bumpy putts but I never did. Fairways are green and lush with good coverage. Rough is a little spotty adjacent to the fairways and thicker and more uniform around the greens. Blue tee boxes were mostly all good. I was only in one bunker and it had tons of soft sand, but I did see some fairway bunkers that looked like they were basically left for dead.

Sounds like the new owners continue striving to improve the course and facilities. The starter told me the clubhouse is being expanded with more dining and bar space. The course is playing great and definitely recommended. I even bought a dozen balls in the pro shop for a dollar cheaper than they're sold at Roger Dunn. (Taylor Made Tour Response).

Played here today with a 2:00 tee time, which is their first twilight time at $60. I was paired with a threesome and we started right on time. Unfortunately, one of them had to quit after one swing due to a bad back, so we played as a threesome all day. Probably led to a little more waiting than normal, but POP was still good at just under four and a half hours. It was partly sunny when I arrived but after a few holes the sun disappeared and it was cool and cloudy most of the day. My cart died on the 14th hole and after a few calls to the pro shop, I eventually got a hold of someone and they quickly brought me a new one.

The course is in really nice shape! I knew the aeration alert is still yellow but figured the greens would be mostly healed, and it's difficult to find many courses not affected by aeration right now. I was right and the greens are mostly healed, some more than others. Another week to 10 days and I bet you'll hardly notice anything. Today they were a little bit bumpy, medium speed and accepted full shots really well. I never felt like the punch marks affected my putts other than the greens maybe being a little slower than expected. Fairways have great coverage of rather tight bermuda, providing good lies and some run out on low trajectory drives. The fairway-adjacent rough is pretty thin and somewhat patchy, but the rough around the greens is very nicely maintained. Seems like lots of courses are taking that approach lately, and I like it. Blue tee boxes were mostly good but where the tee markers were on the par-3 16th felt like hitting from a downhill lie; some leveling needed there. The bunkers I was in were great!

I've always found this course really fun and beautiful, and there are very few, if any, dull holes. $60 on a weekend is a great rate as long as you get one of the first twilight times so you know you'll finish. Beautiful clubhouse that had a wedding ceremony in progress when we were teeing off on 18. Highly recommended.

Played here today with a 1:24 GolfNow "Hot Deal" for a great price of about $45 after 15% off promo code. Paired with another single and a twosome. We started maybe a couple minutes early and had short waits to hit all day, but total POP was just over 4.5 hours. Blue skies, great temps and the wind kicked up for a stretch in the middle of the round.

Conditions are mixed. I believe the greens start aerification tomorrow, so none of this will matter much. The greens today were medium speed, rather soft, and a little bumpy. They didn't putt very true, but they weren't bad. On many holes, the fringes around the green are in poor condition with about a 50/50 dirt/grass combination. Fairways have mostly good coverage, some a little thinner than others. The rough was maybe about two inches deep and not very penal. I was in one bunker that looked great but it was very firm under a nicely maintained top layer of sand. Gold tee boxes varied wildly throughout the course; some had been punched recently, others were good, and others were poor. For some reason the par-4 7th (pretty much the signature hole) had no gold tee markers out and only one black marker one box down. The golds were out on all the other holes, so that was weird. Overall, I was surprised how dry the course seemed with all the recent rain. It had that typical semi-dormant appearance that Coyote Hills seems to always have, although maybe a little greener than normal.

I enjoy this course and find it quite a challenge. Anytime I can get a good deal I'll take it.

Played here today with a 12:10 TeeOff.com "Deal" time. I applied $80 of TeeOff rewards that were about to expire to get it for about $190. Arrived around an hour early to use the range and practice green. The putting green is small and could use some more holes cut; it only has about 3 or 4 and the course was very busy. Started right on time paired with another single and a twosome. The other single quit after about seven holes because he was playing so poorly. After that, we had to wait quite a bit but POP was still fine at around 4:30. It was a beautiful day and I was happy having time to take lots of pics instead of being rushed.

Conditions are good overall. Greens are smooth, run very true, and are quite fast. They are medium firmness and accept full shots well. I think they're scheduled for aeration in about a week. There were quite a few ball marks on some greens, but nothing that impacted any of my putts. Putts toward the ocean are noticeably faster than others. Fairways are mostly good with semi-dormant bermuda cut short. One or two holes had less than ideal coverage but most are good. The rough is semi penal at about 2-3 inches deep and somewhat thick. Blue tee boxes were mostly good, but a few were extremely hard and one or two others were lower quality grass and/or a little lumpy. Bunkers were good. All of the above is being slightly pickier than normal due to $340 rack rate out here.

First time playing South for me. I really enjoyed it, definitely a little more than North. Having seen No. 12 from the Crystal Cove walking path, I was surprised to learn the angle of the tee box. I always figured the tee was closer to the covered walkway. No. 13 was super cool, playing to the larger, right-side green of the two greens. That left one is tiny! The big surprise for me was the greatness of the skyline green par-3 16th... what a gorgeous hole! Fun day. Glad I splurged on it.
