Played 5/2. Tee Boxes not the best. Greens pretty bumpy and very soft, left some of the biggest ball marks I have seen in a long time. #6 is playing back to the regular green, but I would have rather played the temp green. Fairways were actually pretty nice, but this course is not very walker friendly. Yardages not marked very well.

Well worth the $55 special American GOlf is running in the LA times, but not at the regular rates. This was about my 5th time playing Coyote Hills and I have always enjoyed this layout. Course is in good shape, but the greens were a touch bumpy and inconsistant. We played as a 4 some. The starter sent 2 straight 2 somes out behind us. We let the first group play thru #2 and then let the 2nd group hit up and go thru on the par 3 3rd hole. The marshall then comes up to us on #4 and tells us that according to the GPS, we are 6 minutes behind and that we need to pick up the pace!! When told that we had just let 2 groups of 2 play through, and that maybe the starter could have been a bit smarter on that decision, he had to get in the last word and say "I don't care, make sure you stay behind the group in front of you (which we had waited on prior to our tee shot). Thumbs down to the staff!!

Course is in fantastic shape. The lone exception being the green on #16 which appears to be under attack by some sort of fungus creating bare spots. This was a very bumpy green as the condition affected putts. Rated the customer service low due to the maintainence crews. These guys continually kept cutting around the greens and fairways as we played our balls, plus the few that did not mind holding up play from the tee boxes. C'mon guys, let us play.

Got out and played the back 9 again on 3/11. WOW, what a difference a weeks makes. The course dried out and is in great shape. I have never seen Knollwood like this. The fairways and greens were in great shape, considering the $15 fee to play 9 holes. I did not notice the previously mentioned problems with the T-boxes. This is a great way to start the morning off, played 9 in ~1:45.

Got out to play the back 9 on Fri 2/25. Playing conditions were better than what I expected...although you could still find standing water in some traps and the low lying areas were a bit moist. The greens were in nice shape and rolled pretty well. Fairways typical for Knollwood, but no bare spots. Got around the track, walking with our 3-some, in 1Hr-45min. Blinding speed for this track.

Played a super twi-light round on Sunday 2/13. Got off the 1st tee (Hole #10) at 2:00 and finished 18. The back 9 is in great shape, no real damage to the playing surfaces. However, that dry creek bed that cuts in front of #13 must have been a raging river. It eroded away a 10 foot deep 40 foot wide channel, it was a pretty impressive site to see what mother nature could do when she gets upset...... Many of he bunkers had standing water, not a surprise due to the amount of water that the course took on in the preceeding days. The greens were a little slower than normal RR greens, still a little soft.

The front 9 played a little wet and has some ground under repair. #2 was playing as a par 3, but to tell you the truth, I do not see why the hole could not be played from the regular tees (we played it from the regular tees!). #4 is very wet and muddy in the landing zones and needs some time to dry out (do not try and cut the corner over the hill, it is all mud on the other side). No other damage noted. The front 9 greens seemed to play much faster, relative to the back, and were typical RR greens for this time of the year.

Well worth the super twi light rate of $45 when you can get in all 18.

Got out and played the back nine. Course is in OK condition, nothing to write home about.

A very enjoyable experience, but a pricey one. Got to play with someone who had a member's card, which brought the price down to $135. Hole #14 is the most scenic golf hole that I have had a chance to play. Nothing but hole and ocean views from tee to green. For the $$, I was expected the fairways to be more lush, but they are about the same as Lost Canyons and Robinson Ranch (which are both very good). Was just expecting the ocean side climate leading to pristine fairways. I found the greens very difficult to properly read. Would love to go back if I find a few extra $$ in some hidden location.

I understand that they are doing away with the practice facility. The cards for the 2005 players club state that the practice facility may be closed as early as June 2005. The practice facility was nice, but come-on.....$185 for a weekday round, but you have to pay for the range balls?????

Course is in great shape. Not only do you need to find the fairways, but you need to find the "right" part of the fairways. With the dormant bermuda rough, the ball rolls thru much of it (with the excpetion of the heavy rough around the greeens). Many of the hazards have hills or mounds directing the ball right into it. To score well here, you MUST play conservative.

A great deal with coupons, nut not worth the standard rack rates.

Played both courses 11/16 for $85 with coupons from golfq.com. A good deal at that price. The Valley course is in great shape after the recent over seeding and rains. Still cart path only. This course is a great test of golf, but can be enjoyed by all. Pick your set of tees wisely. Don't be over confident, or you might regret it!!

Played 10/15 on a beautiful day with not even a hint of wind. Rancho Vista is a true gem. The course is great for players of all abilities. It is wide open and can accept errant tee shots, but to score well, you need to keep it in the short stuff because the rough is NASTY. The greens are almost of Robinson Ranch quality and the fairways and rough are lush. $40 gets you 18 and a cart on a Friday and $13 more gets you a replay. Great way to spend $53.

Vista offers a "Hackers Special" that includes super twilight golf and a $6 range card for $10 after 6:00pm. Great deal at that price. Got out with a buddy at 6:30pm and we were able to easily finish 9 holes, often dropping a extra balls to practice those approach shots. Way too many unrepaired ball marks on the greens.
