Definitely gotta go into this course with a plan. You can pretty much put the driver away on this course. Every single par 5 is a 3 shot hole. If you approach it that way you can earn your chances to score with a wedge, not by going for the green in 2.

Best plan of action is to find out how far it is to the widest part of the fairway on each hole and hit to that number. Whatever you have coming home is whatever you have coming home. Trying to play to YOUR number will only get you into a heap of trouble at this course.

The Fairways and Tee boxes were good not great. Greens weren't the best in the bay area, but they were definitely in the second tier. Very soft and receptive to approach shots. Rolled true, saw a few puts hop a bit and they were a little furry. That's why I would call them second tier.

The rough was very inconsistent. Bare in some spots on the on right side of the 10th fairway it was probably 6 inches. 6 inches of rough on a 590 yard hole is brutal.

Bottom line, it's a great test even at 6100 yards and will require every ounce of game you have.

Played yesterday for $53 cart included from GolfNow. The course is 100% worth that green fee. The course definitely was not in the best shape I have seen it though.

Found it hard to find a flat lie in some tee boxes and there was severe divot damage on nearly every par 3 tee box.

Fairways and Rough were in great shape. Balls were running in the fairway pretty well. Never found a bad lie in the fairway.

The bunkers could stand to have 1-2 inches of sand removed. It seems to me that they added sand as they do every winter and there hasn't been any rain to pack the added sand. So the bunkers are very powedery and heavy.

Greens were a huge disappointment. They held all approach shots and still had good pace, but they were extremely bumpy. You could visibly see the bumps. They need to be punched and rolled in the worst way.

Pace of play was also an issue. Lot of tough holes on this course. They should put a bigger gap between groups. Tee boxes were stack 2 groups deep on the entire front 9.

Overall I still enjoy this course, it is 100% worth what I paid, but the course is in the worst shape that I have ever played it right now.

New 6-6-6 layout is very interesting. As a big hitter I love more Par 5's. The wind made this course play way longer than usual though. The ground was very firm for a tight driving course where you need to put the ball in the fairway or barely outside of it. I had a couple balls hit the fairway and run into the vineyards.

The course was in great shape except for the greens. I spent the entire days fixing ball marks on the greens. They still rolled very quick and fairly smooth, but the bumps did effect some putts. I've played the course when the greens are in great shape. When they are, this course is top notch. Right now this course is middle of the road.

Eagle Vines right next door probably has them on course maintenance right now.

Got a beautiful clear day and could see the ocean and Golden Gate Bridge on almost every hole. The views this course has gives it so much potential it's insane. Since they don't bring out the blue tees this course on the card is less than 5000 yards, but with the elevation changes and Ocean wind it plays well passed that yardage.

I'm a big hitter(average 290) and due to the alignment of this course I could not over power it. The way the course is laid out with mostly short par 4's in the low 300 or high 200 yard range you would think it's a par/birdie fest. But the shorter 4's player up hill into the wind or have some sort of tree or dogleg protection so you can put it on the green in one.

The greens hold very well, but since they clearly aren't rolled and play bumpy that can make putting difficult. but they also have some decent break to them and have false fronts on several holes. Some pins are very hard to access.

I'm convinced the NCGA rated this course solely on the scorecard. It plays way tougher than the score card reads. Par 68 with 2 par 3's that play 240 yards...Let's be honest it's a par 70 and the course rating should reflect that and the slope should probably be in the high teens or even 120.

If this course rolled the greens, flattened the tee boxes, increased standard maintenance, got a cart girl, shortened the ladies tees another 500 yards, got new carts, distinguished front center and back pin placement with colored flags, and built a modern club house they could probably charge just as much as the city does for Harding Park and get away with it on the views alone. This sounds like a lot of work, but if you look at each item you ill realize this will take minimal effort.

Between Lincoln Park and Sharp Park, the National Parks Department is sitting on some serious money makers if they would just care...a little bit.

Played today at 9:30am and we are off the course by 1:20...Flew through this course. It is in impeccable shape as well with the PGA Course Pro Championship coming up in 2012. Everything about the course was in phenomenal shape except that the greens were a little sandy but that didn't change the fact that they were lightning quick and rolled very true. Well worth the $90 cart included rate on GolfNow. Highly recommend this course.

Played twice in the last week and the course is still in very good condition for this time of year. The tee boxes could probably use some flattening out but never had trouble finding a flat spot to hit from off solid ground.

Fairways are absolutely phenomenal right now. Still hard and fast to add some yards for your drives. But at the same time very lush and all lies in the fairway are favorable.

The sand was a little dry but it was consistent and typically plays dry in the afternoon anyways.

Greens didn't look great to the eye. Seemed like they had some damage from ball marks and possibly standing water, but approach shots were sticking to the greens and I never had a single put bounce off line from a bump. They rolled very true and fast.

Bottom line, get on golf now and go play this course. It's challenging for everyone, but at the same time there is a fair tee box location for everyone. Love this place, highly recommend it.

The course is still in pretty good shape from the President's cup. The fairways and tee boxes were pretty good. Course drained fairly well for the winter except for one hole which has a large section marked under repair. The greens seem like they are trying to recover from the cup still. What was clear to me is all the infrastructure created for the president's cup has clearly gone with the event. The website hasn't been updated since. The course rating and slope has changed, the prices are all different. Cheaper in fact, but still not cheap enough. It's an enjoyable round but the course is still way overpriced if you aren't a resident. I paid $79 today to walk as a Norther California resident. Cart was included if I wanted it. The course is probably worth about $60. I have a feeling it will be down to that rate in the next couple years.

Played Thursday 1/7 and the course is in phenomenal shape considering the winter rains. Only a couple of times during the day did I find a soggy spot on the course. The greens might be the best they've ever been and right now with the winter moisture they are holding everything you throw at them. I was sucking back approach shots all day. This course still remains a must play in the bay area.

Extremely tough golf course. While it is kept in phenomenal shape it can get pretty unfair. The rough is extremely tough and will cost you at least a stroke if you are in it. This wouldn't bother me except for the fact that the only way you can hold a green is if you hit a full wedge into the greens. These greens are rock hard. They roll great, but consistently cost you strokes from outside 150 yards because they won't hold anything. A course can be a challenge yet rewarding with either 5"+ rough or rock hard greens. But when you put both together it just gets to be unfair. Very tough course to shoot your handicap. I'd go back, but definitely a course the requires a different plan.

Still a great deal on GolfNow, but I have to say I am very disappointed that such a nice course has let its greens go to such disarray. They still have severe ball mark damage and now they haven't been cut evenly. Surprisingly they still roll true except when you hit one of the many unrepaired ball marks. Otherwise the course is in tip top shape and still as fun as it's ever been. I really hope they turn the greens back around.

Beautiful course with arguably one of the best finishing holes in golf. Right along the Pacific Ocean with the Ritz Carlton in the back drop. Couldn't be better. Of the two courses at Half Moon Bay I would say the Old course is not as nice as the Ocean course. The tee boxes had a lot more divots in them and the sand traps could use more sand. Otherwise the greens on both courses are 100% the best greens in the Bay Area. The fairways and rough are also impeccable. The course reminds me a lot of Eagle Ridge, winding through the neighborhoods, except I think it is a little tighter than Eagle Ridge. Definitely the more challenging of the two courses at Half Moon Bay. If you get on the e-mail list, this course is worth every penny with the deals they give. Both courses have their own distinct personality and I would highly recommend playing both courses. You won't regret it.

This course is in better shape than any other course I have played in my life. There isn't a single aspect that is not perfect. Get on their e-mai list and you can get some great deals. A must play in the Bay Area.
