Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played as a foursome (paired up) on 15/04/20 at 11:10. We had booked for 11:50 on GolfNow but were able to get off early. Good driving range with lots of space and pole targets. Large putting green. I did not see a practice bunker but I suspect there is one. This is a double ended driving range with a golf school?? on the back end.
I quite enjoyed this course as the maintenance was to a high standard. Greens and bunkers were in good shape as were the tee boxes. I like a course that leaves sand/seed bottles at all the tees to enhance active maintenance.
It was 97 degrees when we finished our round in 4 hrs. Saw the ranger several times as well as the beverage cart. Washrooms were spaced throughout the course and water points were every 2nd or 3rd hole and very welcome in the heat.
This course reminds me of Terra Lago in Indio (Palm Springs) for the terrain outside the actual golf course. Site lines were interrupted by power lines towers adjacent to the course. The course seemed to follow the power line grid which accounts for the tower proximity.
We played in high winds from the 2nd from the back tees which made every par 3 play super long. No wedge par 3s on this course.
I will play this course again on our next trip as I enjoyed it very much for it's playability. My only criticism and I consider it constructive, is that we lost direction on several holes, notably a par 5 dog leg leftand a down hill dog leg left par 4 where both greens were blind from the tee. We literally did not know where we were going and just tried to hit the tee shot straight. There is no legend at the tee box to show the hole character (left, right, straight, pond etc)nor was there anything on the cart to assist in planning your tee shot. I could shave a few strokes by having that information.
My rangefinder was a help for our foursome as there were prisms in the flag stick.
The greens were super quick and undulating. I got fooled more than enough on the greens but that made it a fun and challenging course.
Amenities in the club house were first rate. Cold beer at 97 degrees was much appreciated!

Note to the Moderator. This club changed it's name to Verrado Golf Club on 04/14/14. Played 04/14/14 and 04/15/14. First round was 5 hrs, second was 4 hrs 10 mins. Both days we played behind the Gateway Tour Championship Matchplay. Slow going on day 1 with the Pros playing for the winner's purse of $25,000.00. Pins were very difficult on both days, tucked, on high points and on the edges. Some of our weaker players had a very difficult time. I loved it and managed to birdie #18 on both days.
Another contributor to slow play was the extremely high winds on day one. Balls in the air being blown off line and balls on the green moving after coming to rest. No wind issues on day two.
I have played this course before and it is one of my favourites. Several short par 5s covered in fairway bunkers, quirky par 3s and a driveable, uphill par 4. #13 played about 281 for us. laid up, pitched on, it came back to me. I chipped on and it went to the flag and came back to me. I pitched in for a neat 4. A diabolical green for putting.
Fairways were wide, firm and fast. The fairway grass was a little higher than normal which impeded my running chip style. Bunkers and bunker sand were excellent. Greens were very firm but not overly fast. We played after lunch both days and I assume the greens had slowed down from tournament speed.
Most fairways appeared to be crowned so the ball, if hit slightly off line, rolled to the desert which had lots of mesquite.
The golf course staff are first rate from bag drop to golf shop, marshals and beverage cart. We met the marshal several times who explained the delays on day one. The beverage cart passed by several times on each nine. There are water points and rest rooms on course. The patio and dining area are also first class, This is a fine place to play, eat and drink. The drawback is that it is way out of town in Buckeye west of Goodyear. Take the I-10 if you are going to play here.
This course is highly recommended.

Plaendants setyed 04/13/2014 at 1047 am. Bag attendants set up our carts and we were ditected to a spacious driving range with practice bunker and chipping area. Range balls were part of the green fee. ** Several rattlesnakes were seen on the range that day**
There is a practice putting green adjacent to #1 tee as well as a main practice green in front of the clubhouse. The starter was very informative about the nuances of the golf course. As our groups had all played here previously, we got the abbreviated version.
fairways were firm and fast with very light rough. Rollng off the rough into the desert areas was no bargain with bush and rocks everywhere. i spent most of the front nine in greenside bunkers given the 28 mph gusting to 40 mph winds. Sand was very good as I managed to save par on 3 of the 7 opportunities. Greens were in excellent shape, receptive to a low spinning wedge that I used to fight the wind.
Pace of play was 4:50 that I attributed to the high winds. It was tough to keep a ball in the air. Marshal and beverage cart were about and passed by frequently. I loved the course design and the shot values. This was a return trip. Well worth the money and we gave up our Masters Sunday. We managed to catch the last two holes in the small bar whcih had quick service. There is a very large patio area that we would have retired to had the Masters not been on.
I highly recommend this course although it is way out there in South Goodyear.

Played 04/12/2014. Booked for 1330 and started 1400.Golf shop gave us the twilight rate and a free bag of balls for the delay. Given that it was Saturday afternoon of a beautiful sunny day, I get it.
Played the course in a 25 mph wind with baked out crusty greens. Nothing like a challenge. The ball was moving on the greens after coming to rest. The course was in great shape on the fairways and in the rough. The bunkers were indifferent, some were crusty with no bottom, some were filled with pebbles and small rocks and some were light fluffy sand, In any case, I try and play the course as I find it.The greens were very fast, crusty with numerous ball marks and very firm. Most were elevated as well. With the heavy winds, putting became a challenge.
The course is GPS equipped and rightly so given the split fairways, waste areas in front of the greens and severe dog legs, Even with the gps, most of my party had difficulty following the routing of the course. We all agreed that a second round would shave 5-6 strokes by local knowledge.
Our round was 4:25 which was a pleasant surprise. The beverage cart came by 4 or 5 times in our round. Lots of water refill points but I only saw one wash room, a porta potty on 6. I may have missed one on the back nine.
We saw the marshal several times but there were no pace of play issues.
I would return to this course just to get revenge. Weather conditions conspired to kill my score as did my 38 putts, several which blew right back to me. I am learning to adapt to Bermuda, but the wind was impossible.

Played as a twosome on 04/10/2014 at 1307 hrs. Check in was a breeze on a Golfnow booking. Well stocked golf shop with everyone personable. Players assistants loaded our electric carts and directed us to the range. Large baskets of balls and target poles off grass...heaven! Water points on the range as it was mid 90s on the day. Parctice areas everywhere for putting etc. Met the starter who set up our gps. He gave us the high points of the course and off we went. We caught up to a single around 6. He declined our offer of a game and proceeded on.
There is a snack kiosk after #7 with sandwiches, hot dogs and cold drinks. You come by this kiosk again after playing #16. Wash rooms with water points were strategically placed around the course. The beverage cart was a regular visitor passing by several times on each nine. we saw a marshal once as the pace was very quick...3hrs:20.
The course itself is parkland style and heavily treed. Lots of lakes, ponds and a concrete canal that meandered throughout the course. Be aware of the canal and check the gps constantly. This course was in pristine condition with lush fairways and very short rough. The ball did pick up some mud on a high shot into the fairway. The mow height on the fairways was about an inch and the ball sat up nicely which we hadn't seen in our other three rounds in Phoenix.
Bunkers and tee boxes were well cared for and divots for the most part were sand filled. Greens were a bit bumpy with what to me looked like poa coming through the bermuda. I'm not sure of all the grasses in the area but bermuda is a score killer for me. The greens all sloped upwards from front to back with virtually all greens elevated.Speed of the greens was medium as were in the late afternoon.
The pace was quick but the single in front of us was "clearing" each hole. He would wait for the foursome ahead to finish the hole before he would tee off, consequently we wound up waiting for him on each shot. My wife convinced me to calm down but I lost it on #17 when the single played three balls from the various bunkers around the green while we waited in 90 degree heat on the tee box, My lime green shirt made sure visibility was not an issue. The tee box on 18 had cleared in front of the single with the foursome on the green some 400 yards away. "Hey when were young" had no effect on this guy. He just kept playing his balls.
We finished in 3:20 and went to happy hour. This facility has three golf courses and appears to be a focal point for the local community.
We will come back here again and recommend it to all levels of golfer.

Played 07 April at 1:07 PM. Was greeted warmly at the golf shop when checking in. We were given cart keys and directed to the ball machine for practice balls for a very busy grass driving range. I suspect a lot of members were out practising as the weather was in the mid 80s. This was a big double ended driving range with target poles. there is a practice green which I should have used given I had 33 putts in my 80 strokes. I didn't see a chipping area or practice bunker on the clubhouse side of the range but I know it's out there somewhere.
We played as a 3 some in carts following two walkers and one cart. Pace of play was 4:15 which was very acceptable on a busy day. this course I suspect is busy all the time. There were restroom/waterpoints midway on each nine and # 9 comes back to the club house.
Greens were outstanding, tough with lots of contour which protects par. The greens were pool table quality, firm with full grass and very few ball marks.
Fairways were generous which helped our high handicapper . The fairways were really lush and we did on occasion pick up mud on the golf ball. i suspect the irrigation may have something to do with an LPGA event planned for early May. Rough was cut very short.
Bunker sand was the heavy grain type with little bottom which suggests tht the course sees a lot of high wind. After two bunker shots I switched to my 58 degree wedge for any further bunker shots (adapt or buy dinner).
A note to the unwary. Hole # 17 has a turtle back green with a deep grass bunker in front that I did not see from the approach area. Yipe! I thought I had holed my wedge.
I saw the ranger once on the front nine. There was no beverage cart. We loaded our own carts and unloaded then the same way. My kind of course. There were five in our party (3 some and 2 some) and we all agreed that this was an very fair well maintained course and we would return in a heartbeat.
This is my kind of course. Good golf with no frills.

Played on Sunday 06 April at 1pm. the course was packed resulting in a 5 hr round. I have played this course before so knew the layout. Greens were in excellent shape, lots of contour with sloping from back to front. Greens were hard which I would expect for early April on a hot day. Fairways were tight and lush. The rough was dried out and cut short. Bunker sand was indifferent in that some greenside bunkers had more sand than others. I suspect this is caused by the direction of the prevailing wind which was high, late in the afternoon. There are several restrooms and waterpoints on course. There was a beverage cart that passed by several times that I recall (I consider beverage carts an impediment to the pace of play and tend to ignore them).
Range balls can be purchased prior to the round. There are chipping and putting greens and I believe there was a practice bunker although I did not see it.
I consider this course good value with a green fee under $50.00 which might explain the 5 hr round. I did not pay the extra for the GPS but it came on in the cart anyway. I used my range finder after I found one of the holes had a GPS pin placement that had not been updated

Played this course on 2013/02/26. Tee time was at 1245 and we tee'd off at 1315 (45 minute frost delay). We were notified of the delay upon our arrival. Staff at the bag drop were attentive and loaded our bags on carts. we each got a bag of range balls and were directed to the range. Big range, putting area and chipping. Did not see a practice bunker.
Received a thorough briefing from the starter who had made up 15 minutes of time from the frost delay. The tee sheet looked fairly full and I appreciate how difficult it is to make up time so kudos to him.
The course was in superior shape, very quick greens, and lots of bunkering. There was a cart path only par 4 on the front nine (#3 or #4). Saw the marshal on several occasions . We stayed right on the tail of the foursome in front of us so no issues there. The beverage cart girls were also attentive and we saw them at least twice a side. Comfort stations were distributed throughout the course with water points. We were give a styrofoam cup rather than bottles.
Playability was above average. I would like to have a few shots back on short par 5s which were heavily bunkered in the landing areas. #13, a par 4 was about 300 yards but severely uphill with a false front. The starter had warned us to take adequate club on our pitch into the green due to the false front. I did and was rewarded with a ten footer for birdie which I three putted.
All the par 3s appeared to be downhillers with two with at least a two club drop.
Post round there was a bar and grill with a dining room attached to the club house. We ate dinner here post round. Good food at a good price.
Our round took 4 hrs 45 mins. A little slow but it is a resort style course in high season. Given the frost delay and the number of people on the course, I think the staff did what they could to insure a good pace of play.
I would come back (and will) to this course in a New York minute. It was the highlight of our trip. We came from Goodyear so folks from downtown and east (Scottsdale) will find it a drive but worth the trip. Do not take the 303 Loop to get here as there is mega construction on that route.
