Played here today (9/12) as a last-minute way to extend the trip out for the GK event at Desert Willow on Sunday. Played with a fun group of guys from north O.C. who had me laughing all morning on a 7:50AM tee under somewhat greyish skies because of fires in the surrounding areas; air quality wasn't great but very playable especially early. Course conditions as Matt alluded to with the punching of greens (starter actually said today would have been three weeks) were a bit disappointing. Thankfully only the greens suffered today and the good company made up for it.

Tees: This may be the first time I saw the blue tees played today placed on hole 1 (15 feet from the starter's booth) on a downslope; odd choice. All other tee boxes were okay to good shape, and in far better positions.

Fairways: The best part of the course conditioning. They were a nice color green, had ample run and the turf was very nice to hit from. The contouring of the fairways was also fair, meaning there weren't insane mounds for trickery's sake.

Rough: Not too much to speak of as the native area is the real "rough" here. The traditional rough wasn't overly penal; it was wet and thick at times, but it didn't bury the ball nor was it unmanageable.

Sand: Was in a number of greenside bunkers and the sand in them was throwing more towards the fine brown beach sand than the pearl white stuff you may see at say Classic Club. Enough sand to hit out of and the consistency was pure enough, some bunkers were a bit wet but thankfully nothing deemed unplayable.

Greens: As mentioned, 3+ weeks out from punching (starter also mentioned they punched in June but it "didn't take as we hoped") and the greens are still nowhere near ready to be called ready. Some were better than others, but I can't remember a single one that was a standout either way. They ranged from a bit bumpy and a tad touchy on roll to slow and a bit puzzling. Either way it would be best to wait these out unless you are getting a Hot Deal or something.

ETC: First time here but even I could tell that they have changed things a bit around in the layout as at times the cart routing is rather insane, especially from the cart tent/pro shop in modular buildings to the range (watch yourself on the road). Staff was very friendly from the cart attendants to the starter, so a big plus there. Carts had nice color GPS with Bluetooth connectivity, coolers with lots of ice and two waters, and a working port to charge the old phone. Layout is nice with a few blind tee shots but the 18th hole left me a bit underwhelmed considering some of the holes I had played on the back 9 were far better; minor gripe. Overall, liked the course (curious what the pros thought when they played here as part of the Bob Hope rotation), but probably would play ShadowRidge or Classic Club instead.

Went out yesterday with a high school buddie of mine and even though we knew it was going to be record heat we pulled the trigger on a teeoff.com deal for $45. I thought the course was going to be empty with the heat and for the first 6 holes it was. Then we hit a logjam of 4 somes and after waiting on every shot and the cart girl saying last call at 1230 (hole 10 for us) we had to quit.

I dont have much to add to Matt's review from last week but the greens were almost healed up id say one more week. They ran smooth for me but were not 100% yet. Fairways nice cushion and full coverage and 98% green. Rough was fine and the Sand was decent. I really like this course even though hole 11 green is dumb after the redesign but its worth playing just not in 123° heat.

The course was in pretty good shape considering the heat in the area. The tee boxes had excellent, cushy coverage. Were level. The fairways had some thin spots but were really great to hit off of. Rough was thick in spots and tame in others, but healthy. The traps were well stocked but not fluffy. Could easily hit out of them. The greens were punched around 3 weeks ago and were still showing some heavy signs of aeration. They rolled a little better then they looked but were on the medium slow side and could be pretty bumpy.

Overall a good experience and course. A demanding course that I will definitely play again.

Took a trip out to Palm Springs over the weekend. We usually head out to PS a few times each summer. There are so many golf course in the area, I always try to play something different each time we go.

I have been wanting to play SilverRock for quite some time. Usually, all of the early morning tee times are booked up so I am not able to play. This trip, I was able to score a 6:40 Friday tee time (which I assume is due to the fact that they punched the greens earlier in the week).

There is a massive amount of construction going on around the course. They have a temporary clubhouse (doublewide) and a temporary cart barn. I never steeped foot in the actual clubhouse. I simply gave the two gentlemen at the bag drop my last name and they told me to load up and head out.

They told me to follow the signs to the driving range. The driving range is literally almost a mile from the clubhouse. It was insane. I swore I was lost. Once I arrived, the driving range was all grass and was in decent shape. The range balls were in good condition. I was a single so was paired with Gary, his son Andrew, and Bill. All three were awesome...if you see this, thanks for the great round.

Once on the course, the layout is awesome. It is one of the best I have ever played in the Palm Springs area. The fairways are very generous. I did not feel like I was playing the same hole over and over again. I felt that the layout was similar to the Mountain course which is just down the road and a layout that I also really enjoyed.

Overall Condition: I thought the condition of the course was great considering the hot summer temps. It ranks up there with any of the courses that I played in the area in the summer.

Tee Boxes: Perfect shape. All of the tee boxes were level and had good coverage. Even the par 3's were in good shape.

Fairways: The fairways were in great shape. I did not have a bad lie the entire day. They were not rock hard like you would assume they would be with the hot temperatures. Nothing at all to complain about here.

Bunkers: The bunkers were in good condition early in the morning. I was told by the starter that they rake the bunkers once each morning and they are not maintained the rest of the day. With no rakes on the course, I could see how some might complain about the bunkers in the afternoon. Since I was in one of the first groups off, the bunkers were in great shape. I was in a couple of them and I had not problem hitting shots out of them.

Green: I have to be honest, the greens were pretty bad. BUT......I was made aware that they punched the greens via GolfNow when I booked the tee time so I know what I was signing up for. They would punched only a few days earlier so they were still pretty rough and had a fair amount of sand on them. They will be awesome in a few weeks. Had to be negative when a golf course is just doing routine maintenance but it does need to be noted in case you are considering a trip to SilverRock.

Overall, I will be back to this course and it will probably be on my next trip to PS. I enjoyed the course that much. When the resort that is currently under construction is finished, I have a feeling it is going to be even more difficult than it is now to get a tee time. Hopefully I can make it back out before that happens. If you are considering playing SilverRock, do it. You will not be disappointed.

Rode the Blues (6313/70.6/129) mid day on a GN Hot Deal as a single in 3H. 108, clear and calm, never had another golfer within a hole of me. SilverRock is one of my favorite area layouts, but today the conditions were middle of the summer scruffy. Not bad, just not nearly as good as SilverRock usually is. Every area of the course has minor bare spots here and there. Bermuda tees had some bare spots and were just okay. Bermuda fairways and rough both were semi lush and good to play from unless you found one of the bare spots. Sand traps were the weak link. They obviously have not been putting alot of effort into maintaining them. Most had not been recently raked and were compacted. Around many edges it looked like they had not been trimmed in a good while. Bermuda greens were firm, consistent and medium speed with almost no ball marks. However, many had at least one poor area where the coverage was thin to bare. Good overall unless you had to putt through one of the poor areas. No on course services with COVID-19. No divot mix and doodles in the bottom of the cups. Prepaid, so check-in was quick. Starter was leaving for the day as I drove up, he said they had about 70 golfers today. All grass driving range and practice area open. Carts have GPS and ports for electronics. Recommended, but I would not pay rack rate right now.

Rode the Blues (6313/70.6/129) as a single in a little more than 4H twilight playing behind multiple 4somes. Weather conditions clear and breezy around 65. The over seeded tees were lush/level and very nice to play from. Thumbs up to their divot repair team. The over seeded fairways were lush and mostly excellent to play from. The over seeded primary rough was mostly lush and mowed fairly low. Not overly penal. The many waste bunkers are less maintained than the greenside traps and play firm. The greenside sand traps are very nicely maintained with fine, good quality sand. And for those unfamiliar with SilverRock, there are alot of large traps here. I had 12, count em, twelve, greenside sand shots in 18 holes today. One reason for that is that most of the very large greens are elevated and surrounded by 2-4 large traps. Greens here are nicely over seeded, they putted medium fast speed and were relatively smooth. They do a very good job here of putting some mixture into old pitch marks that keeps the greens smooth and rolling consistently, plus they seem to regenerate quicker than most courses. Some of the largest greens I play on, not unusual to have numerous 50-75' putts in a round here, so lag putting is at a premium. Customer Service always excellent here. Plenty of water stations on the course and they provide complementary bottled water in the cart that has good GPS and ports for electronics. Cart gal around several times today. Comp range balls are included as well. Fun layout in very nice condition. Recommended.

Rode the Blues (6313/70.6/129) in a little less than 4H, paired with Larry, Cathy and Carlos. The weather was clear and calm in the low 50's when we teed off around 8am. They have relocated the clubhouse/cart barn close to hole #2. The old parking lot and about 1/2 the original driving range have now been graded for development. Also what used to be hole 18 before the redesign has now been leveled completely. The over seeded tees were lush/level and very nice to play from. The over seeded fairways were lush and excellent to play from except that they had numerous wet spots. The over seeded primary rough was not overly penal. Mostly lush and mowed low. The many waste bunkers are firmer and less maintained than the greenside traps. The greenside sand traps are nicely maintained with fine, good quality sand. The large over seeded greens putted medium speed and were relatively smooth. They received irons very well and full shots left large ball marks because they were moist. They looked faster than they were, but were speeding up as they dried out. Plenty of water stations on the course and they provide complementary bottled water in the cart that has good GPS and ports for electronics. Cart gal around numerous times today. Comp range balls are included as well. Customer Service always excellent here. Very nice condition that would be almost immaculate w/o the wet areas in the fairways. Recommended.

Rode the Blues (70.6/129/6313) with 140ver. We played 36 holes in slightly more than 7H total using UP. The weather was around 115 and sunny with a little breeze. VERY disappointing to pull in and see that they had just sanded and punched their greens. No prior notice on GK or when I was here last week. The gals in the pro shop made sure that we knew when checking in but by this time we were already committed. Bermuda tees had some bad places due to the heat but where they put the markers were mostly decent. Bermuda fairways are getting worse with every visit due to the heat. More and larger hardpan areas than last week. Bermuda rough has some hardpan areas as well but plays mostly good. Sand traps are almost always good here, and today was not an exception. What can you say about Bermuda greens 1 day after being punched and sanded? They actually putted better than you would expect after you got the speed down. You had to be very careful with downhillers because they is little grass to stop the ball with the sand so thick. Quick efficient check-in and the cart staff is always exceptional here. No starter, Marshall or Drink cart today. Carts have charging ports for electronics and good GPS. There were probably less players playing than I have ever seen @ SilverRock with the combination of 115 and punched/sanded greens. Stay away for about 3 weeks would be my recomendation so the greens can get back to normal.

The Bermuda tees were mostly lush/level and decent to play from. Several have some hardpan bare spots. The Bermuda fairways were mostly lush but with noticeable hardpan areas due to the heat. The Bermuda rough was not overly penal. Playing longer clubs was a viable option. Mostly lush and mowed low. The many waste bunkers are firmer and less maintained than the greenside traps. The sand traps greenside are nicely maintained with fine, good quality sand. The large Bermuda greens putted medium fast, relatively smooth and are very firm. Few ball marks but because of the firmness, everything runs out. Plenty of water stations on the course and they provide complementary bottled water in the cart that has good GPS. Comp range balls are included as well. Customer Service always excellent here. The course is currenly not in it's normal pristine condition due to being a month from over seeding and the heat. Still worth it, one of my favorite layouts in the Palm Springs area. Recommended.
