Played Silverrock twice this weekend, as they opened from overseeding, and the unveiling of the redesigned back 9. Played the white/blue combo which is approximately 6,000 yards, and a slope of 128.

The front 9 of the course is unchanged. The back 9 is now a configuration of 3 par 3's, 3 par 4's and 3 par 5's. Hole 10 is the same. Hole 11 is now a par 3 over water that from the whites can play anywhere from 138-178 yards. Yes a 40 yard long green, that looks about 5 yards wide from the tee. From the tee all you see is water in front and left, a hill to the right and a flag. No bailout on this hole, and the last part of the green is a big downslope with mounding. Kind of unfair if the put the pin in the back and you are hitting a mid to long iron into the green, no way to get it close. 12 is not a par5 with a tee shot over water. Without getting into too much boring detail old hole #'13, 16, and 17 are unchanged. Hole #18 is a very controversial (to the regulars) short driveable par 4. I am of the side that it is a disappointing finishing hole. Eventually they are supposed to switch the 9's around, the current #9 would make a very tough finishing hole.

As the course just opened after being closed for a month the tees and fairways were in great shape. Only the 15th fairway had some bare patches to it, so hopefully they can get that taken care of.

The rough for Silverrock was on the lush side, and the ball had a tendency to sit down. and were penal.

The sand traps (of which there are many, with nice deep faces) were in great shape, with enough sand to be able to spin the ball with your bunker shots.

The green s putted medium speed., and were generally a little slower than normal on this course, but very few pitch marks ,and rolled smooth and true.

The carts have GPS where you can check yardages to bunkers, hazards etc. All grass range and range balls are included with your round. They also have a large putting green, and chipping and bunker practice areas.

The customer service as always was excellent.

Still a great course, but the redesign has me wanting for more.

Played this course many times, they assured me that the back 9 which has been being changed would be ready in November, you only play the front 9 for now. As usually the course is in good shape the greens are a little long and slow but good, very few dry spots. This is a great value, I'd suggest if you play 18 to play one set of tees for the first 9 and a second set for the other 9.

I do want to say what an enjoyable time I has with fellow GK'ers lamitchw,nicksquire, and caligolfer1031. Made for a great start to a great day at the GK event.

Played the Blues (72.1/131/6658) in slightly less than 4.5H with mendel, lamitchw & Caligolfer1031. Excellent group to play with! The weather was overcast, breezy and in the 70's. Back 9 closed for renovation, so we played the Front 9 twice. There was a freak wind storm the previous night with winds in excess of 50 mph. SilverRock lost around 70 trees and several sand traps were nearly devoid of sand. Real props to their maintenance crew. Many of the downed trees were already cleared by our 2nd 9. This is a fun & pretty layout with Big Horn Sheep grazing along the mountain. Despite the challenges from the wind, the playing conditions were very good bordering on excellent across the board. The Bermuda tees were lush and well maintained. Only the par 3's needed minor divot repair. Both the Bermuda fairways and rough were lush with a few thin spots here and there. Nicely maintained and good to play from. The sand traps were probably in excellent condition the day before. The ones that still had a normal amount of sand in them had good quality sand. These traps are tough to play from with large lips and long carries if you short side yourself. The Bermuda greens putted medium speed, were firm but held shots well. Reasonably smooth for Bermuda. Not a huge amount of contour/slope on these large greens. Love the layout, it's completely away from any houses. Decent amount of lakes, canals and native areas to keep your attention. Many tee shots appear tighter than they actually are. Many more fairway and green side traps than most courses. However, this is not a tight course overall with generous fairway landing areas for the most part. But if you barely miss fairways, you are in hazards or native desertscape on most holes. The customer service was excellent, from the complimentary range balls all the way to the cart guy cleaning your clubs after the round. Cart gal around numerous times. Marshall's out trying to enforce POP were almost a detriment. When you are waiting on the tee for the fairway to clear it seems like a statement of the obvious... but they still made a point to tell all 4 members of the group to speed up. We had lunch afterward in their onsite restaurant, service was excellent and the food very good. Great course, definitely recommended.

I had the pleasure of joining mendel, caligolfer1031, and nickesquire for a round Sunday morning, 5/7, before the PGA West event. The back 9 is closed, so we played the front twice for our 18. I have no idea what the rack rate is, but I paid $30...which I'm assuming is Mendel's rate for being a local in La Quinta. $30 for SilverRock is a freaking steal, no matter if it is only for playing the front twice! I had my push cart with me and it was cool enough, so I walked. There is some distance from the pro shop to the range/first tee, but other than that it's very walkable.

We played the blue tees, and it was definitely challenging. It was my first ever round in the desert, so I had no idea what to expect. Tons of bunkers! Now i know. From tee to green, everything was in great shape. Tee boxes-perfect. Fairways-lush green carpets. Rough-not penal and very lush. Greens-really smooth and receptive, but slower than they looked. And ALL of those traps-very tough, but perfect with beautiful white sand. The layout is tough, especially the par 5's, and going around the second time helped. The carts have very detailed GPS's, so that was a big help in seeing the trouble that lurked ahead.

The service and staff were great. We saw the cart girl at least 5 times, and the guys in the proshop were very friendly. I'd have to say the best part of the day was hanging out with Marlin, Greg and Nick. It was early and my game slept in a bit (except for almost holing out a wedge and blowing out the hole on 5,) but it was a really great start to a perfect GK day. Thanks again Mendel for setting it up! I definitely recommend SilverRock.

Fairways have good coverage, and we're not overwatered this morning. Tee boxes level. Great pace of play today, 4:05 with a 9:00 tee time during Coachella weekend, shockingly surprised. Service as usual is awesome, from check in to club cleaning. Saw the cart girl 4 times. Although the back 9 is closed, still a great option during the summer to play 9, or play the front 9 twice to make it 18. Excited to see what the renovations bring, they were personally approved bybArnie before his passing.

I've wanted to play this course for several years now, but circumstances ( their flood, my schedule etc.) haven't allowed me to do so. I booked a time on line a couple of weeks before I played, paid $109 for a 10 a.m. tee time. Crazy thing is that although I booked to play on a Thursday there were the same number of tee times on the Wednesday but they were $145-$155, I guess I just don't understand "dynamic pricing". You can also call the pro-shop for tee times. On to the course. The driving range, practice area, putting greens and first tee are a loooong ways away from the club house, probably set up for the original planned housing/retail/hotel development that never took place. This is a tough track, especially playing it for the first time, and/or without someone who has. Although carts have GPS it doesn't really give you the true bearing of the course. Lots of bunkers, many hidden from the tee box, and greens are well bunkered. I must say I was somewhat surprised at the poor condition of the greens, they were bumpy, although would hold a good shot in. There were many sand/mix filled ball marks, and in fact there are grounds crew members who actually go on the green and "repair?" the ball marks with this mix, so not only are they bumpy but look very odd with different colours. Fairways were in good shape, rough was fairly long and at times hard to hit out of. Bunkers were generally consistent, however some fairway bunkers were a bit thin, that can be good for a fairway bunker though. There are some really tough holes here, especially on the (current) back nine. We played the blue/white combo tees and that was plenty for us. Back nine has some holes right along the mountain(s) and the big horn sheep wander on down. We were done in 4 1/2 hrs, but it could have been longer had we given thought to our shots, which after a while became futile, you just didn't know where to hit it to. Par 3's from ridiculously simple to ludicrously difficult. Although I am glad I played it, I won't go back anytime soon. Rumor always had it the pro's wanted out of the " Bob Hope" rota as it was too difficult/goofy. I understand that the course is going to be re-designed as the housing/retail/hotel development is about to go ahead, and likely make it more "user friendly". You can have a tough course that IS user friendly. Service was very good.

Went out today for the First of my two rounds and was in the 3rd group out with 2 marshal's who were on their day off and a course local. I played the combos because the other three were playing the whites. The course was in fantastic shape all around and was visually pleasing. The winds were very strong on the drive in but died down for the first 4 holes. After that there were some nasty gusts paired with dead calm. Very strange and hard to gauge.

Tee's, Fairways and greens were near perfect conditions nothing really stands out that could knock any points from them other than I did land in 2 unfilled divots. That is not the courses fault more of people not be courteous of other players.

The Rough is starting to go dormant with about 10 percent in the dormant stage. It was cut short and was really nice to play out of. I never had an issue with shots coming up short from the rough.

One thing to note is that there is a lot of water hazards and sand traps to land in on this course so choose your tee's wisely. The tips stretch to a crazy long 7800 yards so dont be a hero and play the wrong Tee's.

The sand was the only part of the course that was not that impressive. It was a little wet but even when it dried out it was not that fluffy and you could catch a flyer out of them.

The Last thing to know is they are going to be building a Major resort on property and will be closing at least 9 hole's and per the marshals word its possible the entire course after a few months running as a nine hole. He says the word right now is looking like May 1st but that can change at anytime. So go out and play the course because you will never get the extremely tough par 3 17th because its on the chopping block as that is where the resort will be.

Played today. Really no change from previous recent reviews. (Nicksquire reviewed the course course twice last week, how can I add to those reviews?.). What has changed except the price jumped for non-residences. Course closes October 8th for a monrh for pre-season maintenance. If you have a chance to play before then I highly recommend it. Conditions are great right now.
