As per most holes here, you do not have to kill the ball. You just don't need to show off - it is a really fun course. If you like to smash the ball then smash it, and if you want to make par or better, let the club do the work for you. As for an actual tip for hole #1 on the Desert Willow course, if you make it over the left side fairway bunker then you will probably have a shot that is in a bit of a gully. It will be a very nice grassy gully but you may have a lie at an angle. If you make fairway to the right of the (left) bunker then it should be a nice approach shot.
