Played the Blues (6594/71.8/127) as a 3some with Eric & 140ver in slightly more than 4H using Forelinx. The weather was clear, calm and in the mid 70's, very nice! Thanks Mike G. for a fun round! A common theme on this tree lined layout is penalty stoke hazard and trees left and trees right on hole after hole. Most of the holes are relatively straight. The layout is tight in places with a few elevation changes and enough water and red staked ravine hazards to keep you honest. The tees were fairly lush and in good shape overall with few unrepaired divots. Most of the over seeded fairways are lush and well maintained with few divots. A couple were more winter thin. The rough is winter thin, with some lush areas to go along with hardpan and wood chips mixed in under and around the hundreds of trees that line the fairways. The sand traps were hard packed with fine sand. However, they are too thin in many spots. The greens putted medium fast and were mostly smooth. They putted nice and held approach shots very well. However, a few had hydraulic leak damage and a couple had some bare spots around the edges. They recently resodded all the fringes with dormant Bermuda that is now becoming nice to play off of and is a huge improvement. The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. Drink cart around numerous times. A negative here is that they did not renew their GPS contract, so you no longer get yardages on the GPS on the carts. Solid but unspectacular layout containing 18 good golf holes in better than average condition. Recommended = Yes.

After finishing both Willow Glen and Pine Glen by about 10:20, I was sent to the first tee of Oak Glen about an hour before my actual tee time. Played by myself again and played through several groups. By 1:08, I had finished all 54 holes at Sycuan. Course conditions are very similar to Willow Glen, although the first few fairways didn't seem quite as nice. No. 1 had coot damage near a lake. Greens were smooth, soft and rolling medium fast. Fairways and rough very nice and lush for the most part. Tee boxes good, a couple shaggy. Bunkers were mostly compacted but not neglected, just not quite enough sand in them. This was my first time playing Oak Glen. In my head I always thought it was slightly inferior to Willow Glen, but I'd argue the best three holes among all 54 at the resort are the stretch of 5-6-7 on Oak Glen. No. 5 is a great "cape hole" uphill par 4 that plays to a green with hazard left and long, and a big hill on the right. It also appears they're working on the surrounds here and they've put pure white sand in the left greenside bunker, which looks fantastic. No. 6 is a beautiful downhill par 3 (check my Instagram for a picture), and No. 7 is a par 5 with an elevated tee. The tee shot is blind due to many trees concealing the fairway. I LOVED this three-hole stretch and can't wait to play it again. NOTE: The GPS is no longer functional on the carts. The weird part is the screens are active and show a diagram of the hole and the total yardage, but no actual useful information is displayed. There's a sign in the pro shop explaining this but I missed it until after I'd played Willow Glen first.

The comeback continues, once again, at Oak Glen off an internet deal. The course was in pretty good shape, greens were fantastic, but a bit slower than I like. Rolling smooth and true, excepting shots well with a bit of bounce, but just a bit slow. Tee boxes fine, fairways a bit thin but very playable, rough minimal, bunkers, this is the low point, at least concerning the ones I was in or 'bounced' through. The bunkers I encountered were rock hard. I tried putting out of a shallow green side trap but hit the lip, so I just chipped the next shot toe down shallow path. On one approach I missed right, hole high in the middle of a bunker and my ball bounced out to 15 yards off the back. That might be because of the rain, but they were simply like hard pan. The rest of the course was fine, and like always out there very enjoyable despite my astronomical scores as of late. "I'll be back!!!"

Played the Blues (6594/71.8/127) as a 3some with Tom & Gary in slightly more than 4H on a busy Sunday morning using Forelinx. The weather was partly cloudy and calm. Started in the high 40's and in the mid 60's by the time we finished. The layout of this course is TERRIBLE for dawn patrol because almost half the holes face directly into the early morning sun. Every other hole was hit it and try to find it without a clue of where it went. Willow Glen is MUCH better in that regard. The tees were fairly lush, nice shape overall with few unrepaired divots. The over seeded fairways are near immaculate. Lush and well maintained with few divots. The rough is winter thin, with some lush areas to go along with hardpan and wood chips mixed in under and around the hundreds of trees that line the fairways. The sand traps were well maintained with fine sand. However, they are WAY too thin in most spots. They recently resodded all the fringes with dormant bermuda that is now becoming nice to play off of. Played 12-22 6:45 as a single. Rain kept many away, including the rest of my group, so went out early as a single. Finished in a little under 2 hours. Tee boxes were lush but shaggy. Fairways were overseeded and very nice. Rough was dormant mix of kikuyu/bermuda and pretty thin. Sand traps seemed to be thinner than Willow, the sister 18, but it could have been the rain. The greens were decent, medium-fast due to the rain. Almost all the collars were being replaced with sod, most with dormant bermuda but at least one with rye. The bermuda hadn't filled in so the edges of each piece of sod was a factor. Lay out is decent with good variation in hole appearances and tree-lined fairways. This course just doesn't flow as well as Willow Glen, and they don't seem to keep it up to the same extent. If you can live with the uneven collars, you'll have fun making this one side of 36, but if you're traveling any distance you'll probably be disappointed if you just play Oak Glen.

Played the Blues (6594/71.8/127) as a single in 3H, 5M after a frost delay using Forelinx. The weather warmed up and was in the mid 50's by the time I finished, clear with a little breeze. Most of the holes are relatively straight. A common theme on this layout is penalty stoke hazard and trees left and trees right. The tree lined layout is tight in places with a few elevation changes and enough water and red staked ravine hazards to keep you honest. I thought the rating and slope were a little low, it played longer than the scorecard yardage indicated. The tees were lush and in very nice shape, few unrepaired divots. The over seeded fairways were lush and well maintained with few divots. The over seeded rough was generally lush, with some hardpan and wood chips mixed in under and around the hundreds of trees that line the fairways. The sand traps were mediocre. Crusty and thin in spots. They were in the process of resodding all the fringes with dormant bermuda. The ones they have finished were lightly sanded and should be excellent in 7-10 days. A couple of holes they had removed the old fringe and it was dirt waiting on the new sod. Looked really odd seeing a lush green ringed with smooth dirt. I never did get the speed of the greens down. They were quick, borderline fast, smooth and held approach shots very well. I was running the ball consistently by the hole the entire round. The customer service was excellent. They let me start alone on #3 since I had other tee times later and I played unimpeded. I had a good breakfast burrito and coffee while waiting out the frost delay, $11 before tip. This course was in very good condition overall, everything but the traps were well above average. Solid but unspectacular layout containing 18 good golf holes in much better than average condition. Recommended = Yes.

Played golf at Sycuan yesterday on the Oak Glen course and wow was I disappointed!
I played there 2 months ago and it was beautiful, but now it browned out in lots of areas, very dry throughout the course and the grass is looking stressed but the greens were is great shape.

Bonita would be a better choice it was in great shape last week and it cost less.

very very poor shape on July 10th. Hit 12 fairways and had dirt or marginal spotty grass lies on 10 of those. Green are in good shape, but I was playing to learn the course in advance of an SCGA event and now will be calling to switch my qualifying course to another track.

The sand traps were concrete hard DG with a maximum 1/16" of soft. My playing partners hit about 10 traps in total (me one) and they were hard as rock.
