Played the Oak Glen course for the first time this morning. Got an early bird "hot deal" on GolfNow for $47. Planned to play 36 here today to check out Willow Glen, as well, but more on that later.

I was very impressed with this course on all levels. Fun layout. Challenging, but fair. Key is really just to stay out of the trees, which is easier said than done with some tight holes and tricky doglegs. The course was in excellent condition, as well. Some tee boxes were a bit unlevel, but the grass was consistent on them. The fairways were nice and green and lush. Rough not too deep, but well maintained. Only in one bunker and it seemed OK, maybe a tad thin. The greens were the best part, just shy of "immaculate" in my book. Very soft and receptive, but smooth surface and quick rolls. They firmed up and sped up a bit as our morning round progressed, but were just about perfect in my opinion. I did have to repair a few extra ball marks here and there, but not bad.

I was in the second group out. It was me and two other singles. The group ahead got a nice headstart, so we had a good comfortable pace at just about 3:15 or so.

Regarding the replay round, one of the guys I was playing with told me they had very good replay rates, so in my head I was excited to play the second round on Willow Glen. We went into the pro shop and they told us it would be only $30, though we'd have to wait 30-45 minutes for the next opening. No problem! Too good a deal to pass up. However, when they went to ring us up they discovered that we had played our first round at a discounted "early bird" rate and that a replay rate was not doable for us. We'd have to pay the full $65 rate. Had I not already been pumped up in my head about the great replay rate, I may have still done it, but it kind of took the wind on my sails, so I decided to save Willow Glen for another time when I can get a better rate. Oh well. Oak Glen is in excellent shape and is a great course and I know Willow Glen is just as good (and better by most accounts), so I can't wait to get back there! It's very green and lush out there right now, so a beautiful time of year to play these beautiful courses.

Played the Oak Glen today (1/17) for the first time. I was very impressed with the greens. Smooth and holding most shots into them. The fairway were OK for the winter time. Many of the sand trap were in poor to average condition. Staff was friendly and helpful. Enjoyable course if you are straight off the tee. Definitely will play again.

Sycuan Oak Glen is always a gem when I get a chance to play it. Saturday morning was no exception. We teed off at 7am and got around in a little over 3.5 as a 4 some. The greens were perfect and probably rolling around a 9.5 when we started and close to 11 by the end of the round. I love greens that I"m able to trust a line inside 6 feet....

If you haven't played Oak before, there are lots of trees. You need to be able to work the ball both ways off the tee...draw mostly...and if not, be ready to scramble. I was in 2 bunkers and both were filled with soft sand. The rough isn't too deep and isn't too penalizing...the trees are enough of trouble.

If you haven't played this place yet, you should definitely add it to your rotation. Very walkable as well but the GPS in the cart is a treat.

Played in a tournament yesterday on the Company's dime. I thought the greens were extremely soft which was surprising considering this time of the year. I thought there would be more roll but you really just had to get all chips and approach shots to the hole. I thought the fairways were in great shape and I thought the rough was thicker than I expected. Not sure what the price was but I thought it was an enjoyable experience.

Played early on Friday, 6/11/10, to beat the traffic and warm up for the GK event at Salt Creek. Thanks to Paisano for driving down and staying cool while I was yelling at my golf ball. Got a great $40 rate on Golfnow. Couse is just the opposite of Salt Creek - soft, lush fairways and greens, tree-lined holes, not much change in elevaton as you play into and out of a broad, flat canyon. Not overly long but many mature trees line the holes and restrict hitting lanes on some holes, and you need to be on the correct side of the fairway in many cases to have a clean path to the flag. Not that I can hit the correct side of the fairway anyway. Greens rolled well at medium-fast speed and were receptive and soft. Some sand traps were wet from morning watering. Rough was just long enough to have the ball sit down, and in many cases was also wet and difficult to hit from. First out so no pace problems. Recommended.

Was 1st group out at 6:45 and finished in 3 hours without any rushing. Course is in pretty good shape, with exception of rough, which was very rough and very thick grass. From tee to green it is pretty nice and a very relaxing atmosphere. Some intimidating tee shots, as you have to blast on between 2 trees very close together or over them. 3 wood is great off many tees. Greens rolled pretty quick, but true. Fun place to check out once if you are in the area.

Pace of play was 4.5 hours. It's a wide open course except for the trees...make sure u play your fairway metals well as many holes do not require driver. Also, trees come into play on most holes. Get your flop or punch shot ready. Play now!

Went home this weekend to El Cajon for Mother's Day.

Played Sycuan - Oak Glen (at) 6:32 am. Got discounted tee time for half the rack rate. Pristine conditions...1st 9 holes, the greens were a little slow because of the moisture, but in excellent shape. Fairway was in great shape, sand traps were perfectly raked and the overall experience was top notch. Customer service was awesome. We wanted to hang out with our dad, so they allowed him to ride as a 4th without charging us a cart fee. I will definitely be coming back. Look out for Twilight rates; they are around $42; which is a steal for this course. Layout is not very challenging, but heck...if you up for a great day including great food (pre-round breakfast) or a mid-round beer, this facility is top notch.
