First there is a guy in the front of the parking lot allowing only people with tee times access to the parking lot which you are supposed to be there 30 mins prior to your time. Masks are required for the parking lot and check in. Once you play you can remove the mask. Check in is no longer in the pro shop but back at the starter booth and you must enter on the south side (north side hallway is roped off). Putting greens were closed. Range was closed when we got there but as we came down on 9 we saw a couple of people hitting so I'm not sure if the hours are modified or not.

Conditions are pretty darn good. Fairways are nice and lush, not many divots to speak of. I guess that what happens when golfers don't tear up the course and we get a little rain. I'm a nitpicker but they probably could be mowed. It's a little long for me but really not that bad considering.

Greens were great. They were cutting them that morning and rolled very well. They putting about medium speed. Obviously ball marks were not an issue but the greens were different colors and I'm assuming that is the different grasses taking over? The cups are upside down but in the ground. They have these spokes that stick up so that the ball doesn't fall all the way to the bottom. Sorry but I found it difficult to explain exactly how this is.

Rough has some bit to it, not like the Farmers but certainly enough to warrant some attention. They were cutting some of the rough so maybe this will be more manageable in the upcoming weeks.

Sand was good, obviously no rakes but i can't imagine playing in the afternoon after a whole day of play has gone through.

I believe you can only play if you have a tee time. No walk ons is my understanding. It's pretty good right now so hopefully no people from OC can ruin golf for us (sorry I couldn't help but take a dig). Pace was 3 1/2 hours. Will be back for the weekend.

Was in the 2nd group out yesterday in a day where die hards dared to go out. We surprising had really good weather for the first 9 and you could just see the storm rolling in. Hole 14 the winds hit. I hit my drive left and blew completely across the fairway to the right rough. I added 40 yds to my approach shot but did get on and 2 putt for par. Then the hurricane hit. It was dumping out there. Good thing for the bathroom after 14 because we waited there until the storm died down (about 15 minutes). Group in front of us headed back. The 2some in the cart behind us went ahead and played on. Still finished in less than 3 1/2 hours.

Greens are rolling very well, still firm but at a very nice pace. Too many poorly fixed ball marks on some holes. I think people don’t realize how much the balls roll out so they don’t realize where their mark is but just fix something man.

Fairways are very nice with some nice rolls.

Rough is down and playable but that kikuyu can grab a club even in good lies. One day I’ll learn.

Traps were a little damp because there was some over night rain. I actually had a plugged lie which seems to be occurring a lot more between both courses. My friend had a plugged life on a different hole and we found 3 bunkers all day. It wasn’t bad to get out but you just can’t control it well at all.

Conditions should but good up until they punch in April (I’m guessing on that).

Went off first at twilight, only made it to 16 with reasonable light. Cart path only and the group in front of us weren't really golfers.
Course was in good shape, but a bit soft and wet. They had just mowed most of the rough (lots of cut grass laying on top), but finding balls was still quite a chore and advancing the ball from it was extremely difficult. Greens were nice (too many ball marks, fixed a ton) and the bunkers were mostly in good shape. Not much run out in the fairways.

Chipping area was closed as was the North side putting green. I long for the long, warm, dry days of summer.

Played yesterday and finished a little less than 4 1/2 hours. Tees are back to their normal position. Tee boxes do need to be cut a tad but otherwise generally good.

Played yesterday and finished a little less than 4 1/2 hours. Tees are back to their normal position. Tee boxes do need to be cut a tad but otherwise generally good.

Greens were not punched so they are still pretty firm and rolling. There are quite a few ball marks and i probably fixed 2 or 3 on most greens. Still quick though.

Fairways could also use a little mow too but generally good. Obviously there isn’t much roll and the divots are about half filled and half not.

Some bunkers were raked and some weren’t but decent to hit from. Not the super soft sand that I experienced on the south recently.

Rough is getting thick and growing. If I had remembered I would have taken some pictures and posted to the app. Some areas are already brutal so keep those eyes peeled.

The course is coming around but I still think it needs a little tweaking to justify for a nonresident. Ok for a resident. FYI I was loading my car after the round and a gentleman and his wife walked by and asked how I played. He had a European accent. I told him I played ok and he commented that he played south and thought the conditions were horrible. I told him I played north and that the south is probably a month away before I play it. He said he wish he had known. It’s a shame someone came all that way and now doesn’t have a good memory of this place. One day GK will reach worldwide.....

South Course is unplayable at this time so we play the north. The north is in rough condition with every approach are in front of the greens in bad shape. Greens keeper lost all the South's approach areas last year and had to re-do every single one and now are losing the North's. The north greens were just punched last month and still hard as a rock with many unrepaired ball marks. No longer do they come out in the evening and repair what was left from the prior days play. Fairways are playable and mostly look un-mown. Rough is also in bad shape with tree limbs and leaves everywhere. Cart path only is making the course play 5 plus hours. This is not a good representation of this facility. We need someone at the top to come out and do their job and put scrutiny on this greens keeper that seems in over his head. This is my 40th year playing this course and the conditions have been lowered in the past 4 years.

Played in the men’s club tournament today and the conditions are not very good right now. I got there a few minutes before 6 to warm up since the range opens at that time. Needless to say no one opened until 6:15 and the lights were not turned on so I was hitting shots blindly. For a destination course this range is very poor even when conditions are better. Limited flight scuffed up balls are what you get. The new chipping green is better but I’m still surprised they didn’t make is bigger. They have the room and they always have the other areas roped off. I have no clue why. The greens are actually really good. No maintenance was done on them so there were quicker than I’ve been playing. I ran quite a few by leaving some testy kneekonockers. There are some old ball marks that were unrepaired or poorly repaired. Tee boxes are awful. Both the black and taupe tees are grouped together on every tee box and the markers are all the way at the front of the tee box. I don’t think they have moved the markers at all because some of the boxes didn’t have a place to tee it up within 2 club lengths. The 9th tee box was soaked too. Fairways and rough are going to have water in low lying areas. They are watering the heck out of the course right now. Actually when we finished they turned on the sprinklers on 1 and the tee box on 2. Funny there was no one on 1 but there was a group teeing off on 2 which had to move. The grass has barely started to grow back and these will probably get worse before they get better. My guess is they will let this grow out and not cut the fairways for a little while. Just FYI it will be cart path only until February. I don’t see myself coming back before December at the earliest.

As a local playing here since 1976 I am pissed off that they keep this greens keeper here. This guy has destroyed both courses. He lost every single approach on the south last year and they just reworked all of them recently. Now he's losing ALL the approach areas on the brand new north course. There are bare areas everywhere. I was embarrassed to bring my friends here last week. Some holes are so bad that it's like playing from sand. Never in all the years I've played here have the conditions been so bad. Our past female greens keeper always had this place in good shape even when they redesigned the entire south course. I wish some of the boot lickers that make excuses for the poor workmanship would start posting honest reviews so something would be done about this guy. He has an excuse for everything.

I was supposed to play South but ended up we were booked for the north. Not a big deal as I have played both and they are both fun and challenging, obviously being an SD Res helps that no worries attitude. From the moment I walked from the parking lot, the first thing I thought was "I wow, the course looks really brown." On closer inspection some of that appears to be because they might be cutting the kikuyu grass down really low so that the base isnt too thick. I am no greens keeper so I am only speculating but I have played courses what the kikuyu base was deep and was an injury waiting to happen. That being said, this was only 50% of the issue. There were bald spots in the fairway, bare spots in the rough and all over. I remember thinking it looked like the Body of Torrey wearing the clothes of Admiral Baker South. In all honesty I have never seen Torrey this bad before and have no clue how they are going to have it ready for Farmers Open. I am sure they will but I won't be playing it until after. POP was just under 5 hours which is not uncommon at TP. Course was very soft due to rough and green side grasses being cut super short, bunkers had good sand but needed more respect from players playing out of them. Non residents, do not go. Greens were a bit shaggy but rolled nicely. Player tip, its easy to over read greens here, for some reason they just dont break that much.

For our second round on the Holiday weekend we played the North course for my friends 50th!!! We heard the greens had been aerated last week but really wanted to play someplace special. We were not disappointed with our choice. The conditions were very very good and the greens rolled good with a few bumps but we're very playable. They probably need another week or so to heal but I would still rate them 6.5 out of 10........we teed up at 7:30 and finished before noon on a Holiday so the pace was great. Can't wait to return!
