Walked the blue tees at Los Robles on Thursday, July 1, with a morning tee time. The course had a relatively full tee sheet. But the pace of play was very nice at just over 4 hours. We only waited a little on the first couple of holes. Never, after that.

LR is in fine shape right now. The fairways are pretty green and mostly lush with good roll out. I always had a good lie in the fairway. The rough along the fairways, for the most part, was barely different in length than the fairway grass. Easy to hit from. Tee boxes were mixed. Some were nice and others were a little hard and unlevel. But nothing too bad.

The two greenside bunkers I visited had substantial brown, heavy sand in them.; not difficult to get out of. The greens were in great shape. They rolled true, medium fast, and held approach shots pretty well. This is an enjoyable course in very good condition. I do recommend playing it right now.

Had a late morning tee time at Los Robles on Monday, March 22. Nice weather in the 60's with occasional light winds. The putting green and range are open. The short game area is closed. There are rakes in the bunkers - YAY! This is a good course for walking - so I did!

The course is starting to get into nice spring condition. The fairways are green and very aesthetically pleasing. They are still on the thin side with very good roll out. But there is a good cushion under your ball in the fairway. The rough is generally non-existent. Off the fairway you are either in one of the ubiquitous wood chip areas or on dirt. Teeboxes were in good shape and fairly lush, except for a few of the par 3 holes. I was in a few greenside bunkers. All of them had very nice sand. The greens were running smoothly and were medium-fast. The greens on this course are quite the challenge. There are many undulations with serious breaks. We all remarked how every putt we encountered had a substantial amount of break. There were no easy putts out there.

Although this is a shorter course, the greens will test you, and make scoring more difficult than it appears. Overall, the course is in nice shape. I look forward to playing here again - if I can get a tee time!!! HaHa

Played here today at 8:20 after a long awaited return. The wind was up so scoring was tough but it was a beautiful warm day with friends. I am tired of writing about COVID procedures so I will just say the to go food was good. Let’s start with the real good.....the greens putted excellent. They were fast, difficult, curvy, and rolled smooth. The punched with small holes not long ago but it did not affect the way the ball rolled. They were a joy to put on however with the winds blowing there was plenty of 3 putts out there. Next, the pace was also real good. We finished in under 4 hours walking and no waiting. The sand, fairways and tee boxes were mixed but playable and the only real bummer was the hard pan areas which were many. Very hard ground with bark and small rocks made it tough. On a hilly course in the wind I guess you find yourself off the fairway lots so the hard pan just made things worse. All in all a great day and we will be back to tackle Los Robles again soon. Teed off on Monday 9/15 at 10am as a foursome. Typical Covid procedures except that all of the practice areas were open, including the putting green and chipping area. Water stations on the course were full of water and had paper cups available. The cart girl came around twice during our round. Overall, Los Robles is in good shape. Tee boxes were a bit chopped up and uneven, but nothing you couldn't work with. The fairways were fairly lush, with some thin and browned out spots, but nearly always a good lie. The rough was about 1-3 inches and not too difficult to hit out of. They have numerous areas that contain wood chips/pine straw. So you had to deal with that if you were in the trees off the fairway. With the exception of one green, the greens had been aerated with small holes. Mostly, it didn't affect the roll of the ball too much. But on some holes, it made for a bouncy roll and even took your ball off line a bit. This didn't happen too much. But was an issue on a couple of greens. The greens were running medium/fast. Sand traps were fine, with plenty of good sand. I really enjoy playing this course. I do recommend it.

Played here for the first time Weds after relocating to Thousand Oaks. Overall, this is a terrific par 70, old school feel with reasonably wide but tree-lined fairways and medium/small greens, reachable par 5 or two, a couple long par 3s, some long par 4s, good elevation changes (some severe), pretty to look at, and in excellent shape generally, not just for the amount of play it gets, which seems to be a lot. I thoroughly enjoyed the round despite some backups on several holes and playing a bit poorly. I look forward to playing this course often. Used every club in the bag. Premium on accuracy, and a great change of pace from more wide open desert like tracks. For a muni, which it is, it is really a cut well above standard. Great staff. Lots of walkers, would be a slog on the hilly back 9, but will try it myself. Conditions very good and greens are first rate and very fast, big mistake to ever be above the hole. Drive placement key on many holes to avoid tree obstacles to green. POP was 4:40, but honestly did. To seem like it; just a couple par 3 backups and waits but otherwise moved along well. Nice range and putting green and chipping area.

Haven't played here since 2012, the course hasn't changed at all. The only thing that's changed is the golf carts with brand new Touch Screen Display in the center of the golf cart (next to the driving wheel in the center). There are quite similar to the Touch Screens from North Ranch. Today I played the Front 9.

Several holes (such as 2 & 3) are quite easy to lose your ball if you hit towards the right side from the Tee Box. The Greens tend to go all over the place, but depending on where you land on the Green, you can make a lucky putt with the curves/hills that work in your favor.

I really like Hole 6 (Par 3) where you hit from the top of the hill (looks over the freeway and the Oaks Mall from the left side) and lands all the way down below to the hole.

The rest of the holes were very nice to play on and had no problems with in general. Some sand traps (such as Hole 4) had one of the deepest sand traps I've ever seen. It is definitely worth playing at when wanting to switch up golf courses in the area.

My buddies took me out for a birthday round at Los Robles today. We tee'd off at 9:40. Customer service is always great, today was the same. All practice facilities are open, and in good shape. The course is very green, and in good shape. Tee boxes were mostly level and lush with good coverage. Fairways are very green and lush, with the ball sitting up perfectly. The greens are the highlight right now, being soft but smooth and medium fast. The rough can be splotchy along the fairways...i guess we're supposed to keep it in the fairway! Rough around the greens was very nice and lush. My problem with Los Robles is with the sand traps. While they look nice and are well positioned, I can't stand the 'sand.' It is like thick finely granulated dirt, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to play out of. The club won't go through it. I am a very good bunker player, and if I get out of these bunkers in one shot it is a miracle. Every person in my group complained about it...profusely. In my opinion, every bunker needs cleaned out and replaced with SAND. Even though the rest of the course is in very good condition, I have to take this course off of my rotation. I can't take it anymore.

Played on Monday June 15 with a tee time before 9 am. POP was just over 4 hours to play 18. Course was really busy today.

Course is in great shape today. We had prepaid our golf round so it was easy to check in and just go. You can now get carts now. I heard previously when it first reopened (after Covid-19 shutdown) that it was walking only. Golf carts have GPS. All the bathrooms were open. But due to Covid-19 policies, there were no rakes in the bunkers, no ball washers near the tee, and there were no water in coolers on the course. Be sure to bring your own water.
We did see the cart gal a couple of times while we were playing. Driving range was open and the putting green was open. But the short game area was not open.

The red and white tee boxes were in decent shape with good coverage. It was not all beat up. The fairways had very good coverage from tee to green. But with no sand in your carts to fill in divots, it got to be a challenge on the fairways if you landed in one. Rough wasn't too bad. It wasn't that deep so you can still hit out of the rough. The greens were in excellent shape. Greens seemed a little fast today. The sand in the bunkers were nice with real sand. But it can get difficult hitting out of bunkers with no rakes in them.

This golf course is a challenge to play. Water comes into play on a few holes. This is not a flat course. A few holes have trees in the fairway or on your approach shot. It makes for more interesting course to play.

Played here 6/16 with a friend on a 2:10PM tee time booked online (no prepayment required). First time playing here since moving to Ventura Co. and I was quite pleased with the course, in spite of some of the stories I was told of horrendous pace and trick holes here. Loved almost everything about the layout, tricky greens, and conditions. I will certainly be back considering it's only a 15 minute drive and prices here are more than fair (plus it's a great and exhausting walk, especially after the turn).

Tee boxes: Probably the worst conditioned part of the course. Played the tips to maximize yardage and they were pretty beat up in most cases with grass a bit inconsistent and leveling of turf surprisingly uneven on some holes.

Fairways: Good shape overall. Visually pleasing which helped keep my eyesight focused on where to aim. Roll was more than fair and can't remember a single bad lie.

Rough: Varied length and penalty. Some times under the trees it was thick and humbling, other times where the sun really hit it, it was more burned out and not bad. Far more penalizing than the rough were the native/waste areas surrounding.

Bunkers: Was in one, but it was full of sand (a nice change of pace from Tierra Rejada) that was closer to beach sand than the traditional white stuff you see on TV. Enough sand to get your club under it. Bunkers here have mounds of grass/native grass in them that make them ultra challenging!

Greens: Nearly perfect. They were a sparkling green color with serious undulation and tricky breaks. Even though I putted well I was challenged to try and control speed and breaks nearly every single green. Amazing conditions on the greens as well; roll was true, few divots, and nearly perfect visually.

ETC: Carts were available with GPS on them. As mentioned, you can walk but the back 9 is very hilly and will test those out of shape like me. Pro shop open and patrons allowed to pay in there. Staff was friendly. Saw a cart attendant out on the course, but think her shift was ending by the time I saw here closer to 3pm. Snack shack at center of course was closed, but restrooms open. No ball washers, water, or rakes on course per COVID-19 requirements. Layout here is short but challenging at times (think Balboa in SD). Price here to walk during the week is nearly unbeatable. Saw a grass range had some people. Highly recommend!
