Good morning Greenskeeper members. I just want to share with all of you that yesterday, I had the greatest time playing the Ojai Valley Inn Golf Course. Our tee time was at 1:40 and finished just a little over 4 hours. The golf course is just spectacular. Excellent views on every hole. The greens were just PGA conditions. The ball was rolling beautifully. The fairways, tees and sand traps are in great conditions. In my six years of playing this wonderful game of golf; I never came a cross a par 3 hole where there is 12 sand traps protecting the pin. It was just amazing. The customer services was outstanding, helpful and very friendly. Overall I rate this golf course a 9. GK members remember get out and hit the ball and let it roll.

Played Ojai Valley Inn this afternoon on 10/10/2016 as a part of a GK Guru foursome teeing off at 1:45pm with JohnnyGK, Pedro 7170 and Abbacat--very fun group to play with--thanks!. POP riding was 4 hours 30 minutes not having to wait one shot taking our time enjoying this beautiful historic layout.

I noticed a couple extra plaques today on number 10 and number 13 stating that there was a match played in 1923 by Harry Vardon--?? Are u kidding me--wow what a special place--on 10 they have all the professional and amateur events listed. This is my 3rd time playing this course and I always feel special playing here knowing who walked these grounds before you. Very historic layout with the front 9 treeline and the back nine opening up a bit. Some great mix of short wedge par 3's and a couple longer and challenging ones on the back. The last 3 holes are very special here--can't remember a better last 3 holes on any course I have played. Just love #17 and #18!

Greens 8.5/10--They were very quick, rolling beautifully, don't want to be on the wrong side of the hole chipping. Very little to no ball marks--very green and glossy to the naked eye. I thought they were the highlight of the course. One of the things that stood out to me today that I did not quite realize my first two rounds years ago here were how small the green complexes are.

Fairways 8/10--Tightly/lush mowed down kikuyu fairways, ball sitting up very nicely--never a bad lie in the fairways. Very minimal dry spots--staff doing a good job with the fairways.

Tees 8/10--Mostly all boxes were level and semi-lush and in good shape

Bunkers 8/10--Well lets see I got to test 1 fairway bunker and 6 greenside bunkers that were all raked, thicker sand that you really needed to thump and in good shape. There are many bunkers around the green complexes here and if your wedge game is not on you can be in for a ride to the beach(bring sunscreen and beach chair).

Rough 8.5/10--Most of the kikuyu today was freshly mowed. It was still evident that it was there but I have seen it deeper and worse in the middle of summer.

I would HIGHLY recommend this course to the player that loves great layouts and can afford a few bucks.

Not much has changed since previous reviews. Got out Saturday afternoon (7/9 @ 2:50) and the course was lovely as always. Fairways and greens looked and played great. Rough had some patches but for the most part (90%) it was very good. Some divot damage on the shorter par 3s but that's to be expected. POP was right around 4.5 hours and the price ($60) was a steal. Love this place and would not hesitate to come back.

Played 6/18/16 on a Groupon deal. Course was in very good shape overall, with a couple misses here and there. Fairways were pretty plush given the drought. Greens rolled true, but were a bit slower than I expected. They were watering them mid-day in 90 degree heat. We played the whites, and the tee boxes had some scars here and there but were pretty level.

It's a very pretty layout with lots of eucalyptus trees, a fair number of ravine carry shots, and plenty of hills. Deal was $85 for a round with practice balls and a beer, and I'd do it again.

The knocks: not enough water stations on course for the locale (one had a bucket of ice but no water), and the locker room was poorly maintained given the high-end resort environment. Also, the sand in the bunkers was pretty compacted, not unusual for SoCal but I was hoping for better.

Nice place, I'll come back.

Played today, mid-morning on an Underpar certificate, about $90 per player for two. Excellent customer service. The starter stopped us as we drove by to have one of us take a cart to drive back from the parking lot. Nice touch.

The resort was very crowded. We were able to get out 20 minutes early though and played in a little less than 4 hours, paired with two out of state guests who had not played in a while. The course was not as crowded as the rest of the resort.

The course was in great condition. Quite lush, rough not overly long but still a factor, deep soft sand, no apparent bare spot in the fairways. The greens were good with decent speed. There were no complaints with the conditions.

They sent us out on #10. I thought the back nine was much more straightforward than the front nine. I was glad we started on the back. Only my second time here, I enjoyed it a great deal. It is a challenging but fun track.

Played 4-21-16 with John, Nick, and Kevin, playing in 4 hours and 45 minutes not rushing or being pushed. Tee boxes were in good shape, lush and level. Fairways were in great shape mowed tight with excellent lies. Rough was in good shape not to long with some minor bare areas. Bunkers were very well maintained and nice to hit from. Greens were still showing some signs of aeration but still rolling pretty good with medium/fast speed and an occasional minor bump. Overall course is in real nice shape and only going to get better as the weather heats up.

Not much to add to Nick and Johnny's reviews other than as a first timer here, I was mostly awestruck. The course is tight, but the views and elevation changes are picturesque. Several old wood bridges take you across the many ravines that you are forced to hit over. As you drive along the cart paths, you alternate between deep oak forest and rolling terrain. The fairways and rough are covered nicely with turf grass, but get outside that and there is major trouble. I found you really need to be accurate on your approaches; the greens tend to be small, fast, and undulating with few bail out areas. Bunkers were nicely maintained and the blue tees were level and lush. We saw the beverage cart a couple of times and the comfort station with the ice and chilled fruit was a very welcome site. With the GK deal and combined with a replay, I highly recommend this course.

Teed it up at Ojai Valley Inn Resort & Spa golf course yesterday, 4/21, with Kviser, Nickequire and rgm2525. Great times as always with GK’ers. It had been about 4 years since playing the course which I had only played a couple times prior to that so it was pretty much a new experience. Sum it up. Wow. Place is lush and filling in even more as weather warms up. Layout and scenery are spectacular (see photos I just posted and prepare to drool). Conditions are excellent. With the greens running around an 11, smooth with except for a very minor left over aeration marks and holding shot well. Challenging greens to say the least. Fairways pure and lush. Rough filling in more and more with Kikuyu, cut low and pretty tame right now, give it a couple months and that rough is going to have some serious teeth. Bunker maintained beautifully. Tee boxes in great shape mostly level and lush. Ojai Valley Inn Resort & Spa has set GK up on a GK Certificate to the play the course for only $89…but now with the long days, best to take advantage of a mere $10 to play an additional 9 or $17 for another whole 18. $89 + $17 = $106 for 36 holes on this track is a ridiculous value. Highly Recommended.

Played the Blues (6292/71.0/131) with kviser, JohnnyGK & RGM2525 on a beautiful weekday afternoon with temps well into the 80's. Breezy getting toward windy later in the day, we let a 2some play through and enjoyed a leisurely 4H, 45M POP, just taking in the beautiful surroundings. The par 70 layout is hilly and fairly tight. Three par 5's and five par 3's. The first few holes are not that taxing, but the layout gets sterner and sterner the farther you progress into the 18. Elevation changes with numerous forced carries and holes with penalty areas down one or both sides. There are few bailout areas on this course, you have to keep it within the rough lines or it would be a long round. This course would be a beast to walk, not only hilly, buy several tees are a hike from the last green. They have recently punched the Kikuyu fringes and were punching the Kikuyu rough, but neither affected playability. The tees were mowed close with good coverage. Only a couple needed divot attention. The Kikuyu fairways were some of the best non over seeded desert fairways I have played in a good while. Lush and mowed close. How nice did they look? I mistook the small part of #1 fairway you could see from the elevated vantage point of the clubhouse for a sod farm or large chipping green... it looked more like a green than a fairway. The Kikuyu rough was mostly mowed down fairly close. Sounds non penal unless you missed the "Kikuyu" part. Even mowed down, it is still challenging to attain both length and direction on your shots out of what appears to be lite rough. The Sand traps were well maintained with nice sand. Thicker and heavier than it 1st appeared until I played a couple of shots out of it. The greens still showed some visual evidence of their spring aeration, but I thought they putted well. Medium fast, firm with a generous amount of break. With the amount of break I had on numerous putts this round, they would have been treacherous if even a little faster. I was surprised to learn that while there have been redesigns over the years, that parts of the course date all the way back to 1923. I also did not realize the sheer size of the resort, it is spread out over many acres in a beautiful, rustic setting. Customer Service is definitely emphasized, the sheer amount of employees out and about between different sections of the resort and especially out working on the golf course was impressive. Complimentary chilled Oranges and Apples were provided at comfort stations, another nice touch. With the greens and the numerous penalty areas, this is not a beginners course. I enjoyed the round and would not hesitate to recommend this course to anyone who is at least an intermediate level golfer.
