Played the lakes yesterday afternoon and felt the need to update my last review of the course. Teed off at 4pm and it was blowing like crazy. Maybe the windiest few holes I've ever played were holes 1-3.

Once the achillies heel of the course, the greens are now something to be very proud of as they are very nice. Only 1 and 17 are showing any signs of the previous problems that were being encountered. Overall the greens have improved immensely here and are extemely challenging. Fast, undulating, sloped, and large greens are not good combinations for my subpar putting skills. I find both River Ridge courses to have very difficult greens. But today I had my worst putting round ever (45 putts).

The tee boxes were great, fairways were lush, rough was minimal and traps were a little inconsistant, but come into play more than most courses.

Overall the lakes course is a great layout and now has the conditions to match it. Play it in the afternoon with the wind and you will be challenged.

I've been reading so much about the poor greens conditions BUT I’m glad to report the greens are actually in GOOD shape right NOW and, as longball23 stated, they will be very good if not great shape in just a couple weeks. Way to go to the River Ridge Superintendent for turning this baby around! Having now played the Lakes twice, and despite getting my butt kicked by it for the second straight time, I really dig this interesting and challenging layout. It’s an exceptional addition to Ventura County golf. Highly recommended.

Played the tips twilight today 6/15 with Johnny GK and his brother in law. The fairways were in good condition with some nice grass underneath your ball in the fairway...some fairways on the back nine seemed to have more roll to them. I was in the sand several times today and there is enough quality sand in there. Some of the sand was wet but still a decent amount of sand and good quality sand. The tee boxes were level for the most part and have some lushness to them...not many bare spots at all. The rough was in good shape. The greens at this time have sand on them and a little verticut. The 1st 3 greens were harder than the last 15 greens. Interesting that with some sand and some verticut they still rolled decently. I would give these greens 2 weeks and they should be in really good shape. Give them 3 weeks and they should be perfect. Everytime I play this course I go walking away shaking my head how good the layout is. Very cool layout and I really enjoy #3, #4 and the back nine here. The pace of play was outstanding today as we rode and finished the course in 3 hours 40 minutes. There were pace of play marshalls roaming the course and there was a beverage lady a couple times on the front nine. The driving range needs some grass. This course is a must play due to the layout and should be in exceptional shape in 2-3 weeks when the greens are completely healed. I'll be back to play the Lakes.

Played 4/26. Greens in terrible shape but fairways are coming back nicely. Hope they can get the greens in better shape.

Got on the lakes today. Greens are still in miserable condition. Fairways, tee boxes and course design are all very good. I hope the course gets controll of the greens sometime this summer. It's a good course as soon as the greens get playable. One interesting thing that happened is I've never seen a marshall fishing for balls for two straight hours. He would go from lake to lake fishing out balls...I'm not sure if it's a big deal but it just looks bad.

Out early Sunday/5th. Had not played since December [?]. The Lakes is hurting. Would stay away if making a long drive or cannot play during a discount hour.

Out early Sunday/5th. Had not played since December [?]. The Lakes is hurting. Would stay away if making a long drive or cannot play during a discount hour.
Fairways remain pretty thin- even at the tail end of the ‘growth/transition’ period.
Greens are inconsistent [speed] and several [1/2/4/8/9/10/17/18] are beyond hammered. Littered with bare spots- putting across yards of bumpy sand [if on the wrong side]. #10 was so bad I absently mindedly walked across it pulling my cart- assumingly my eye simply saw more fairway- not a green.
Tees/traps/rough- about consistent with what the Ridge offers.
The pro shop is cognizant of the greens conditions and I heard them warn callers-in.
I like the layout of the track- rotated tees gold/white/blue that particular day giving me a pretty good look at many angles on the course. It is good. But until the keeper figures out how to fix the greens do not make a special trip or plan an event on the Lakes- and it could be awhile.

Played the Vineyard in the morning 02/19 Thur. Had lunch before playing Victoria Lake course. Do not order chili-dog. Chile is dry ground meats. Staffs are very nice.

Back to the course, wind die down quite a bit which help us a great deal. Fairways are just OK. Similar to other muni courses. Do have problems with the Greens... they were not smooth as Vineyard course. At times very bumpy. Speed is OK. This course has more water hazards than Vineyard. "Amen" corner #12/#13 very interesting holes. Definitely want to play those holes again. Layout is lot more interesting and challenging than Vineyard. It also has few very nice views. Customer services is great. Very friendly and courteous. Definitely will go back but we will play Victoria Lake first.

Played River Ridge Victoria Lakes today with a High School golfer. Had a fun round. I really like the Lakes layout with lots of vareity. Lots of water, uphills, downhills, doglegs...you name it's there. Fairways are pretty wide open, which helps my game quite a but there is plenty of challenge with the water. Fairways and tee boxes were in nice condition, but the greens were a little shakey. On some of the holes the greens were just plain bad and getting a true roll on a 6 footer was virtually impossible. If you are a green snob this might not be your course for the next couple of months. Nice cart lady and pace of play was excellent with our round being 3 1/2 hours.

Needs a ton of maturing for the money. Greens are horrible!!!!! A three piece ball with back spin should stop......it doesn't! Terriable Greens!!!!
