Really enjoyed the new layout to the Lakes course. Grew up playing the Vineyard course. We played this afternoon twilight 9/22. The first two holes play dead into the wind and are uphill medium length par 4's. Number 3 is a dog leg left par 4 and #4 tee shot(par 5) is very cool and has a great view of the surrounding area. #6, #10 and #13 are the tough holes on this course in my mind. I played great on the front nine which I feel is the easier nine here. There are many visually intimidating shots on this course but after you hit them you realize that the "trouble on some holes" cannot be reached. This course to me favors someone that likes to draw the ball. I was in 4 sand traps today and the sand was very nice. The tee boxes were level and were thin in some spots but in nice shape. The fairways here are in very nice shape. They are thick with nice lies but still provide some nice roll. The greens here are TRUE and are quick and in good shape. I have to comment that there are some brown spots out there around some of the hole locations for a "new course". The greens probably need some water. They still are some of the best rolling greens that I have played on in a while. There is not alot of tall or penalizing rough on this course. What there is alot of is water on this course(was in it just once today). Water comes into play on #4,#6,#7,#10,#12,#13. The staff inside the pro shop were nice and the starter at #1 was very nice. Pace of play was great. We walked the tips in 4 hours and 10 minutes. This is a course that is very hilly in spots and really gives you a workout walking. The wind was up today like it usually is in Oxnard. If you live anywhere close by this is a must....my opinion is that the Vineyard course is a little bit tougher.
