Went out walking Sunday morning, 9/9, with an 11:07 tee time combined with three other players into a foursome. RGM 2525 wrote a review after playing here a few days earlier and there is little I can add to it, so I will point you there since he describes pretty much the exact conditions I experienced.

The differences that come to mind are that it took us 4.5 hrs. to play with no one in front slowing us down (ouch), and the one fairway bunker I was in was perfect for executing a recovery. I also used the Greenskeeper coupon, so it was a great deal for a nice course. My dog also had a good time, although he got around with fewer strokes.

Played 9-6-18 early morning walking as a single in about 2 1/2 hours using the GK coupon for $28. Tee boxes had good coverage and were mostly level with minimal divot damage on par threes. Fairways were semi-lush with good cushioning and nice lies. Rough was in good shape, 2-3 inches, green and lush. Was in one greenside bunker on #1 that was a little thin and firm. Greens were in really good shape, rolling smooth but a little slower than normal and very soft. Overall condition are really nice right now, with great customer service.

Walked early this morning 9/4/2018 for my b-day round with friends. Weather was very nice overcast, little bit of wind and cooler temps. Met by nice staff inside the pro-shop and starter was really nice(even had his friendly dog) right by the putting green.

I love this course. It was in very nice condition as it usually is.

The fringes/aprons were re-sodded and are very lush and green.

The tees are mostly all level with most of the par 3's being filled in with sand.

The greens are super soft on approach but are rolling beautiful. Around a 10.5 on the stimp and in great condition.

The fairways contain padded lies and are in great shape. Mostly green and semi-lush.

Was in fairway bunker on #12 that contained some high quality sand.

Rough was mostly uniform and in healthy shape.

Great mix of tough par 4's, some scoreable par 5's and some tough par 3's. POP was great today at 4 hrs. Great golf course.

Highly Recommended.

Played Saturday, 8/25 with a tee time around 12 noon. It was rather busy today. First indication it was busy was that the parking lot was full when I arrived. Didn't know that SCGA had a two day tournament this weekend. A portion of the driving range was sectioned off for their group. Apparently their tee times were before our group tee off on the Lakes course.

Played match play today. Pace of play was rather slow on a rather humid day. It took us 4 1/2 hours to play 15 holes when our match was over. We lost :-( . Otherwise course conditions were excellent today.

On the board near the starters building, the greens were rated 11.6 today. Due to the SCGA tournament today, the pin positions on the Lakes course were in tough positions. A lot were about 5 - 7 paces from the edge of the greens. The greens were rolling a fast today.

The tee boxes were fairly level with good coverage. The fairways had excellent coverage between the tees and the greens. The rough was a little brutal today. If your ball landed here, it was rather hard to find your ball as the rough was tall enough to hide your balls. The sand conditions in the bunkers varies. I only landed in one bunker on hole #13. I felt it was just a little hard packed. The other players in our group mentioned it was really hard packed and hard to hit out of. Other sand in bunkers that I saw was a little on the thin side.

This is a very challenging course to play with water coming into play on 7 holes. I now remember why they call holes #12, #13 and #14 amen corner. These holes are situated around the lake. You can lose a lot of balls on these holes between out of bounds on one side of the fairway and water on the other side of the fairway. The 13th holes was tough with water coming into play on your tee shot on both sides of the fairway. Winds coming in the afternoons would also add to the challenge. I didn't lose any balls playing here today.

There's a driving range here, short game practice areas and putting greens near the 1st hole for each course. Nice clubhouse and pro shop. I also notice they have some of those golfboards that you can rent. Will be back again for the challenge!

Walked the Blacks today 8/20/2018 with my buddy Steve. Used the GK coupon which was $28.00 to walk. POP 4 hrs. Weather was nice a little humid with temps around 80 degrees. Great pro-shop and starter. Nice putting green similar to course greens and a big driving range.

Always love coming here. Great challenging layout from the Blues or Blacks--always well conditioned with great pace of play. Fun holes here and you will use every club in your bag.

The greens were listed as a 10.6 and were rolling at least that maybe closer to an 11 on the stimp. Pure rolls with some of the back nine greens having a minor slit that looked like it was just healing up. The greens have a perfect mix of really holding irons with spin yet rolling fast and pure. Rated 8/10.

Fairways had nice semi-lush padding. Never a bad lie in the fairways. Rated 7.5/10

The tees were mostly all level and were lush and in good shape. Rated 8/10.

The rough was green and lush and in great shape. Aprons were green and lush and soft and in great shape as well. Rated 8/10.

Was in 2 fairway bunkers on 3 and 13 that were raked and in perfect shape with compact sand. Rated 8/10.

Very highly recommended.

I Walked the Blacks this morning 7/16/18. Played with Mack, Brian and Ricki on a beautiful morning to play golf. Humid mid 70 temps with a 1 club breeze for most of the day. Paid $28.00 using the walking GK coupon. POP was 4 hrs 25 minutes.

The Lakes course from the blacks is the longest course in Ventura/Santa Barbara counties and you really get a work out walking up holes 1 and 2, green from 14 to 15 and from 15 green to 16 tee.

Very friendly staff, marshall, cart ladies. Nice practice range, 2 separate chipping areas and 2 big putting greens for both the Lakes and Vineyard Courses.

The greens were listed as a 11.8 on the stimp. They were flat out beautiful. Rolling pure and quick without any blemishes. Best of both worlds as they took to high and soft iron approaches. Rated 8.5/10. Some of the better greens I have putted on in a while.

The fairways were semi-lush with really nice padding and still some roll out for players that like to hit it low off the tee. Rated 7/10.

Was in 2 greenside bunkers on #5 and #16 that contained nice softer sand that was raked and a pleasure to hit out of. Rated 7.5/10

Tees were mostly all level and semi-lush and in great shape. Rated 7.5/10.

The rough around the fairways have grown up and there were some thicker lies for our group today. Challenging and in good shape. Rated 8/10.

I love the back nine here it has so much character-did something today that I have never done and that was reach #14 in 2 shots(from the blacks) with two absolute bombs. We had a back left pin today on the next hole #15(par 3)--that might be one of the tougher greens around when they put the pin where they did today.

This course is very recommended--had a great time today.

Played 7-12-18 for $28 walking using the GK coupon, was joined by a riding single and we finished in 2 hours and 50 minutes with a little waiting on the first six holes and then the threesome finally let us play through. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level with good coverage and minimal divot damage on par threes. Fairways were in good shape, semi-lush, providing nice lies with descent roll out. Rough was kind of a mix bag, some thin some thick and some patchy areas. Was in two greenside bunker both of which were in nice shape with semi-firm sand. Greens as always are the best part of this course, rolling 11.4 on the stimp, semi-soft and rolling true. Overall real good conditions on a fun challenging course.

came out afternoon of 6/10 for a free birthday round. walked the blacks with my trusty dog with me and my wife tagged along too as it was my birthday. been a long time since i had played victoria lakes and its black tees, and its as challenging as i recalled. a good test of golf, you use all 14 clubs over the course of the round. some of the black tee boxes were in poor shape, but i've found that throughout socal. greens were great, fairways fair and the rough thick. traps were consistent though i was only in 1-2 all day. POP could have been better but then again we teed off right around noon on a sunday. nevertheless, i felt the group in front of us was a bit slow and unaware of those behind them especially late in the round. i forgot how hard of a walk this course is, especially the back 9. i was wiped after. despite being far from hollywood, the ride wasn't too bad without traffic. next time i come out this ways i may give myself a break and play the blues, though the course doesn't play all too long because of how firm and fast it plays. however, if you miss the fairway it can play very long from the tips. the greens are the best feature of this course, fast but not too firm and they roll true. you can play a variety of short shots around the greens which is fun too. even for the rack rate, this is one of the better values related to challenge and conditions in greater LA area. i think the layout is good, a bit bland, so not as strong as rustic canyon or olivas links in my eyes. then again those were done by hanse and forrest richardson respectively, so. great place for a b-day round though i will say that.

I always like coming out here to test myself from the Blacks which play 7170 yds. I have always felt other than La Purisma the Blacks here are one of the toughest tests in the county. This is the longest course in Ventura and Santa Barbara County. What I was not expecting today was how fast the greens were!--they were flat out awesome PGA tour quality! Listed as a 11.8 on the stimp felt like they were in the 12 range and there were several pins today where you needed to make the putt or have 15 feet coming back. I stuck my 9 iron to 15 feet to a back left blue flag on number 15--and 4 putted for a double from 15 feet. I would rate these greens a 9/10. I just loved them but a word to the wise you will get frustrated and challenged to the max currently. They were soft on iron approaches and held chips well. The staff must be commended on their current shape. They have them ready for the City Championships here Saturday.

The fairways are semi lush with pretty decent coverage throughout. Never had a bad lie in the fairways. There are some drier spots here and there but that's nitpicking. Rated 7/10

The tees were beautiful, level and in good shape. The black tee on #10 looked like it had just been re-sodded and is muddy. Tee rating 8/10

The rough was lush, thick, green and very healthy. Rating 8/10.

Was in greenside bunker on #16 that was raked and contained just enough sand.

Highly Recommended.
