First off the tee at 6:40 Monday morning with sixpez and a single. Weather was very cold and unbelievably windy, marring the experience somewhat of a really wonderful layout. POP was around 3:00. I chose to play the whites (6,391 yards) because we knew the fierce winds were going to make everything especially difficult already.

Conditions are good overall. The practice putting green was maybe the purest, smoothest green I've ever putted on. Greens on the course were the same condition but with added ball marks in various states of healing. Fairways were the tiniest bit thinner than I hoped for them to be but very playable and quite nice overall. The rough was lush, maybe the nicest conditioned part of the course right now. Bunkers were good but had some rocks in them. Tee boxes were fine.

The course offers a diverse layout with some holes in canyons and others playing right along Lake Las Vegas. Lots of elevation changes throughout that make for a fun round. The standout hole to me was the downhill par-5 15th, with a long carry off the tee to the fairway and then options galore on going for the green in two. All of the lakefront holes are stellar, too. Just as we were leaving the sun started shining bright and the course looked 10X more beautiful than while we were playing. Played here this morning with Itslikeimsayin and we were the first ones off the tee at 6:40 along with another single. It was crazy windy and bitter cold throughout most of the round, which definitely added some challenge and made it hard to fully enjoy the experience. I've been looking forward to playing the course since it reopened and imagined playing it on a picture perfect day. That day was certainly not today, but that has nothing to do with the course itself. The course is in good overall condition and consistent throughout. Tee boxes nice. Fairways were pretty good and I generally had nice lies. Rough was well-kept, but cut low and not too penal. Bunkers were very good. The greens were the best part of the course, rolling very quick and smooth. They were firm, but would accept well-struck shots. Anything coming in hot would generally not hold, though, and the complexes are all built with numerous runoff/collection areas as you would expect from Nicklaus. The course was a little different than I had pictured in my mind. So much of the marketing centers around the lakefront holes (8, 9, 17 and 18), which are all excellent holes, but the majority of the course runs through the canyon and offers some fun changes in elevation and diverse hole designs running through the rugged desert terrain. It is a very fun and fairly challenging layout, but judging the stiff winds made it extra tough today. Highly recommended, especially if you get better weather than we did. By the time we were leaving, the sun started coming out and really lit up the course to show more of its natural beauty.

Played a round of golf this Sunday. The course is in great shape, especially the greens. It felt like it was just setup for the tour players because the greens were firm and pin placements were near impossible if you don't work the ball because the ball would not stop if attacking the pin. Putting was delight though, no surprises you got what you saw not like other courses that try to trick you and must be regular to understand which way the putts with break.

The sand traps were a blast to hit out of, at least 6" of sand under the ball (still not like California sandtraps). I found quite a few of them during my round so I am giving a first hand review of the traps. The course seems to be littered with sandtraps adding to the difficulty staying on the green on approach shots.

Fairways were nicely manicured, not too tight due to the extreme heat but nice area to hit from. The signatures holes were breath-taking from tee to green.

The fairways were also very firm, which I do not personally prefer. I think in time the course should soften up a bit. Current conditions makes it very challenging.

Tees and bunkers were in excellent condition. I think in time, this could once again be one of the finest in Las Vegas.

Overall, great experience. Staff was courteous and professional. I will be back.

Considering that the course was completely closed and dried out for FIVE YEARS until last April, the conditions of the course today are astounding! Played RB at 1130 on Monday, 2/9/15; I got an $85 practice round rate as a result of my entry in the Las Vegas World Am tourney this week – my flight plays RB on Thursday, and I had never played here. Las Vegas was warm and clear and sunny today, but winds were blowing consistently at 15-20 mph.

Parking lot attendants, pro shop, starter, et al. were all friendly and efficient. Range on grass with unlimited balls (included), and large putting green and chipping area near first tee. Carts are nice without anything fancy – there’s a GPS unit of the type I find difficult to use and not interactive (“Digital Caddies”). You get yardages F, M, and B, but NOT to the flag. And plenty of advertising, including videos! Yippee!

Went off on time as a single behind several foursomes. A pair of golfers that teed off after me declined to join me on the second tee – one of them “got nervous” playing with others(!). So I crawled around the course behind the foursomes – POP on the front was 2.5 hours, overall 4:50. Ugh! It gave me plenty of time to make notes for my review, and fill fairway divots.

Course conditions were very good throughout. Greens are thin and too firm to hold full shots well, but look great and rolled well at medium-fast speed. Jack’s greens are typically fairly flat, best approached with a high soft shot, and these have relatively little internal movement. Greens were much quicker to the southeast (toward Lake Mead). Fairways were thin and firm but with great coverage and provided good lies. Some fairway areas where layup shots are common showed a lot of divot damage. Because the fairways transition quickly to desert areas there is very little rough – areas around greens were cut fairly short and very playable. Tees were level and in good condition, except for par 3s. Most tees were up in the front of the designated boxes. Traps were exceptional – great coverage, plenty of playing depth, fairly fluffy consistent sand.

Overall course conditions are firm and fast. Especially on the downhill holes, you need to be careful about releases and runouts, and club down to stay within the playing areas and avoid going into traps or hazards. No holes were path only, but there are a number of long walks from parking areas to the greens, due to the routing of the paths. Nice restrooms, as well, but the restrooms after #13 were closed.

Highly recommended.

I would highly recommend this course to everyone. But, please realize it is a tough course with lots of water, but it is fair.

Had the pleasure of playing the course twice in a day (Replay). Decided to play again, when I got word from another player that they were shutting the course down July 1 - to be put up for sale; don't know why they don't just keep it open for revenue until then - but I'm sure I don't have all the facts.
Greens were very fast - but rolled true.
Fairways were cut very thin - and I got (easily) 20 more yards of roll out of my long irons.
Tee boxes were kept up pretty well.
Bunkers were filled with predictable sand.
Certainly recommended. Would be a shame to see it close down indefinitely, but I guess we do live in tough times.

played 2/26/09. visually impressive course, very entertaining and good shot values. only downer was that the greens had been sanded recently (so i'm not sure what the aeration warning for april means) so they were bumpy and a little slow. a few of the holes are somewhat video-game (like the pseudo-plateau green on 2 where your approach is basically blind, and anything left or long is hazard) but they are definitely memorable. fyi lots of homes along the course. would recommend, but questionable value for your $ at $250 rack rate (we paid $150 for the 1st twilight time at 1pm, and finished 18 in the dark thanks to a 30 group shotgun that seemed to be very good at emptying out the drink cart and 20 minute holes.)

Played here 11/29 &11/30/08, as a package from Loews hotel [$250 per day]. Course, hotel and service - all First Class. I played here last year and was very impressed. I was not dissappointed when I returned this year. The cost is not cheap but you only get what you pay for. There are better value for money packages to be had, but you only live once! For those who are careful with money - the weekend package rate is the same as weekday which can reduce the cost difference.
