More about Mark B

Used to tell my son, "I want to get good before I get old" when I was in my 40s, but, sadly here I am at 66, and I can tell you firsthand that getting old, then good doesn't work. Never have played more than 1-2x per week, and when I was young, my idea of practice was the front nine. Since, I often played twilight golf and didn't finish 18, darkness often stopped me about the time I was scoring. Have not shot in low 80s since my early 50s , nor shot under 40 for 9 since my 40s. Self-taught aided by Nicklaus' Golf My Way, and Hogan's 5 lessons, but wish I had the head knowledge I do now from watching instruction on Golf Channel and Youtube when I was younger and could execute more consistently. I know I share this frustration with a lot of aging golfers, but I remember reading a piece from a sports magazine (maybe Sports Illustrated, Golf, or Golf Digest), composed by a golf authority (maybe Deane Beman or Tim Finchem) relating the frustration he had knowing he was once a scratch golfer and having to come to grips with now shooting somewhere in the 80s. I think I found the article in the visitor lounge of a hospital, but a google search suggests it is beyond retrieval now, as search results now want to give me LIV golf and Jay Monahan. If anybody out there knows where this piece exists on the internet, please give me a link. I think with consistent range time, I could still shoot in the 80s, but I am not retired yet, so, the U2 song may apply to this unrealized goal (i.e., still haven't found what I'm looking for).
