I was born in West Virginia and moved to Stafford, Virginia at the age of 3 where I spent the rest of my childhood. I fell in love with golf when I made the Varsity Golf Team as a Freshman in High School after only playing for about 3 months. (I was shooting in the 100s and was lucky that only 14 kids tried out and 10 made the team.)

I believe I may hold the unofficial record for highest scoring round in a high school golf tournament. I was the worst player on the team but our first tournament of the year was held over the summer, and I received a call from my coach the night before the tournament asking if I could play. I said yes without knowing what to expect. You see up until this tournament, the only course I had played was my high school's home course which was a 9-hole, 2,800yd course called Aquia Harbour Country Club. There was no thick rough and only one hole where you had to carry a shot and it was a par 3, so I was able to shoot 10-15 over on 9 holes by hitting the ball straight and on the ground about 100 yards each shot.

So needless to say I was a little nervous when I went to play this tournament at Augustine Golf Club, a 6,800yd course with water hazards and carries of up to 200 yards. I ended up shooting 160. You read that right, 160 on a par 72. My worst hole was a 21 on a par 5 that had a hazard to carry on your tee shot, and another hazard to carry on your second shot. I think I hit it in each hazard 3-4 times. I did have one chip-in for bogey though which was the highlight of my round.

Makes for a great story though as I went on to shoot 17 over, 89, in districts my 2nd year and was awarded most improved golfer. I never stopped loving the game though and studied Business Management at Virginia Tech with the thought of having a career in the Golf Industry. I moved to San Diego after college and am now the Marketing Manager at The Crossings at Carlsbad.
