Favorite Golf Course: Any fairways, greens | Saturday January 30, 2010 1:26 PM with all the new 3g phones out there and there apps do you think the Skycaddies are going to take a dive in price or re-sale I'm thinking I should sell mine before they loose all there appeal. am I wrong, or do you think that they are still a unique item. I love mine Sc but have kinda gotten use to just using the laser rangefinder more as its easy fast and required no fee or batteries also it wasn't effected by trees and such. anyway. any thoughts about the price thing . Member Since: June 22, 2007 Favorite Golfer: Phil Mickelson Favorite Golf Course: Spyglass Hill !!! | Saturday January 30, 2010 4:09 PM Well . . I've still got my SC4 . . and am very happy with it. Not looking to sell it, just continue to use it on the course. I love it! Wasn't too many years ago the Ping Eye 2's were "obsolete" too with all the new equipment . . hmmmm. . . wonder how that's working out for those who threw 'em in the trash bin? . . I'm not a "fancy phone" person. I want my phone to make phone calls . . imagine that! . . I talked with one of my salesmen the other day . . him using his new 3G-flips a coin-gives me distances-GPS equipped-phone . . sounded like he was shouting from the bottom of a well. So, while he will always know how far away from the pin he is . . it SUCKED as a phone! |

It was fairly cheap, and it gives me the yardages front, middle, and back. Also, you can map holes, such as hazards, carries, etc...That works too. Lots of times, I just look at the pin and can figure it out by estimating distance. It works for me. |

Member Since: December 3, 2006 Favorite Golfer: Trevino, Lema, Ochoa Favorite Golf Course: Green W/holes n flags | Sunday January 31, 2010 9:31 AM Me too. I play with 2 guys that have a Golf Buddy, and a Sky Caddy, I am usually within +/- 2 yds on distances (same goes for the cart GPS systems). Heck I'm lucky if can get my ball within 5 yds of where I want to be, so all in all I spent 30% of they bought theirs for and get the same info. I like that I can get distances when my ball is off the fairway (slice/hook). I did find that when I played a new course I had to reset the center position on 90% of the greens, went home and downloaded the revised settings and I'm good to go the next time I play that course. I paid the initial $35 for 100 courses and did not renew. So far there have been 2 courses I would have liked to download. The mapping feature is helpful, but have only used it several times for features that I felt I wanted to keep away from. The less skilled the player, the more likely he is to share his ideas about the golf swing. You can hit a two acre fairway 10% of the time and a two inch branch 90% of the time. If your opponent has trouble remembering whether he shot a six or a seven, he probably shot an eight (or worse). |

The annual fee for my SC 2.5 is less than a month's fee for the contract on the smart phones. The day I can hit "pin seeking" shots will be the day I need a "pin seeking" rangefinder. Right now my goal is to hit the center of the green and putt from there! |

Member Since: January 16, 2008 Favorite Golfer: Woods/Lincicome Favorite Golf Course: Sierra Lakes | Thursday February 4, 2010 8:50 AM I tried Golflogix on my Blackberry Storm a couple of weeks ago. They give you a 24 hour free trial. We played Moreno Valley right after all the rain. Once I got the hang of the Golflogix interface, it was pretty nice. Lots of nice features, if you choose to use them, which you don't have to if you don't want to. Besides the yardages - which were accurate and included lots of waypoints to bunkers, hazards etc, you can keep your score, track fairways hit, greens hit, penalties, sand shots, chip shots, putts and even what club you hit on each shot. Takes about 30 seconds between holes to record all that stuff. According to the website, you can then upload your round data to the site and run reports to analyze your rounds over time. The default for the software is to keep the backlight on which would have run my battery down before the round was over, but if you just turn that off, then you can just click the screen when you need it to come on. Very easy to load the course, in fact it has a "Where I Am" button so when you arrive at the course, you click that and it knows where you are. The course files are only about 1KB in size so they load quickly. The entire app is about 2MB. It automatically advances to the next hole when you leave the green and go to the next tee. I got a little confused due to the fact that Moreno Valley is three nines rather than a single 18-hole course. When I finished the front nine, it asked me which of the other nines I was going to play and I responded "Lakes", which was fine. But then it asked me which hole I was beginning on. Well, good question. It's my 10th hole, but it's hole #1 on the course. I entered #1, and the hole it loaded didn't match the hole we were playing (distance and par). I guess I should have entered #10. Unfortunately, once I did that, I couldn't go back and fix it, I would have had to exit the program and restart, which would have lost all my data from the first nine. We were lagging behind a bit so I decided to give up and just use my iGolf GPS which is what I normally use. It was my mistake on the entering of the starting hole at the turn I suppose, but it was a bit ambiguous. Overall though, I thought it worked pretty well and the yardages were pretty much right on. They charge $40/year to subscribe which is right there with a lot of the other GPS services. Certainly worth doing the free trial and I think I may go ahead and subscribe so that I can give the iGolf to my SO.Pat. |

| Member Since: February 4, 2010 Favorite Golfer: Jack Nicklaus Favorite Golf Course: Tobacco Road | Friday February 5, 2010 6:50 AM I received a 2.5 Skycaddie for Christmas 08. Great little gadget. I travel a bit and usually play 15-20 new courses each year. For that alone, it is worth the yearly fee. Both the website and the unit itself are very user friendly. Since I've never used any of the "newer" phones/apps, I can't offer a comparison. I do however strongly recommend the 2.5, it is the basic Skycaddie model, but it gets the job done. Worth every penny!bill |
