I pasted this in bing, got the page. how-far-do-average-golfers-really-hit-it-new-distance-data-will-surpris e-you The software on this page LOVES to add spaces to the URL's. Notice the space in surprise between the last "s'and 'e" It did it in the OP as well in the section "hit-it" added a space between the - and it... frustating. Because I would be willing to bet that FAR less than 1% of all amateur golfers have ever been consistently tracked on the course for their driving distance. Wonder how many of the top 50 people on GK reviews posted have ever been consistently tracked on the course during actual rounds for driving distance? So the guy who goes out with his brother-in law once every 3 years is treated as equal to a guy who plays 3-4 times per week if they are in the same age & handicap range? I noticed their data range excluded most winter months? Average winter drive can be 20 or more yards different than the average summer drive depending on where you live. My point is, who IS the average golfer they allude to? If only those who have purchased personal software like Game Golf Live qualify to determine what average is, they just excluded over 99% of all amateur golfers. Are we talking tracking every drive, whether it be topped 15 yards or hit decently down the fairway? I got an Arccos shot tracking system for Christmas this year, but it will only record the LAST shot hit with the SAME club from the SAME location. So if a person topped his original drive then hit a decent "do over" shot, only the decent shot would be tracked on that system. But seriously, based on playing with hundreds of different golfers per year... I occasionally get matched up with a kid with Dustin Johnson length, but play many more rounds with people who have to hit driver, wood and iron to reach a normal par 4. I am talking decent hits, not their 1 in a hundred shot that went 30-50 yards above average or poorly struck shots where they almost missed the ball. Therefore, I would venture the guess that 200-220 yards is an "average" drive for any particular male amateur I may be matched up with. The average female amateur? Have played with some that hit it over 200 yards and others than 75 yards was a good drive. I would guess 125-140 would be average. Slightly different topic, but it also has to do with deceptive shot distances. Attended the Career Builder PGA Event Friday and Saturday @ PGA West Stadium and watched most groups come through holes 6 & 7 from my father-in-laws back yard before I went out and walked the course. Stadium #6 is a LONG par 3. Listed yardages are as follows: 255 Black 223 Blue 187 White 146 Gold 133 Red First 3 days, all the PGA Pro's played the 223 tees. On the no wind days, more than not had birdie putts, with the occasional 2. However, when the wind kicked up, several found the water and many were bailing well left, trying to get it up/down from 10-20 yards away. They had all the amateurs playing the 146 tees. John Elway was a 1 handicap, numerous amateurs were listed in the 0-2 handicap range. Was surprised that they were playing the tees most seniors and ladies would play from on #6. [[Edited by Nickesquire on Monday January 22, 2018 9:42 AM]] ![]() The goal is long and straight! But on the many times I cannot seem to hit them straight, I at least want to hit them long! |

I can not make fairways wider or greens larger. Accuracy will always be number one. ![]() |

The 50 yard topper or 175 yard flair count just as much as the hit it on the screws drive that was downhill, downwind that bounced off a cart path three times then ran across a bare area back onto the fairway. ![]() |
