Anyone know much about this course? One review was good. Do we know when the greens are being punched?

Palm Royale is one of the better par-3 courses around. 18 holes. Most in the 100-yard range with a few stretching out to around 150, with interesting greens and some nice landscaping/hazards in play. Walking only and usually kept in nice condition. It's a Ted Robinson course, so imagine one of his prototypical "resort" courses like JW Marriott Desert Springs or Tustin Ranch shrunk down in to a mini-Robinson course. Very affordable and fun for what it is.

Shadow Hills (North) is by far the best par-3 course in the desert with nice hole designs, excellent conditioning and a wider variety of shot lengths. It will cost you a bit more, but also comes with a cart and they usually have daily hot deals that are reasonable.

Lights at Indio is decent, but the layout is much more plain and conditions are usually a step down.

Oasis and Date Palm would be the other 18-hole short courses I'd recommend out here. Both are considered semi-private, but offer plenty of good deals on public times. Again, nice conditions and fun layouts. These are both executives with a few short par-4s in the mix with mostly par-3s.

Palm Springs area does not punch their greens until June-July.

Thanks all, appreciate the info. My buddy is renting a place at Palm Royal for the month of April, in advance of buying one. He likes the course which will be included with his place when he buys it, and wants me to play it, or another longer course in Palm Springs, thus the questions. Since I will be driving out just to play wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be a bust.

Yeah, you are smart to be looking at other affordable courses to play while visiting the desert. Palm Royale is a very fun way to spend an hour or two, but it won't change your life and it's not worth driving out just for that. Your friend should be stoked to have that as a great "included" practice course in his backyard if he rents/buys in that community. I would love to have a par-3 course like that to fine-tune the short game!

Yeah, I think it is going to work for him. He is single and the homes are inexpensive overall, and he plays almost daily now, so having a captive course should be nice.
