I know this is a golf site, but I’m sure many of us are basketball fans too, especially the Lakers. If you haven’t heard, Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash this morning in Calabasas. Very sad.

Kobe has a great facility for youth basketball and two of my grandsons play in tournaments there.
Two weeks ago he came up to one of them and shook his hand telling him great game keep up the good work. Thats the kind of guy he was.

Have many Kobe images etched in my memory from TV.

Favorite Kobe memory in person was a game @ Portland when I lived there. Kobe was finally 100% coming back from his first serious injury. He and Lillard had a good old fashioned shootout. Kobe ended up with 50, I think Lillard had 45. During a good portion of the 3rd/4th Qtrs, when both were hot, they basically played "shoot until you miss" on trip after trip down the court. The crowd was as in to a regular season game as much as I have ever experienced in sampling the NBA in person from the late 1970's until present.

No one could guard either player that night. It was a couple of days later when Kobe had his last serious injury, and when he came back after the 2nd major layoff/rehabilitation, he was never the "old" Kobe anymore. Age and injury ultimately best even the most supreme athletes unfortunately.

Have been a life long BB fan, and IMO, Jordan was the greatest player I ever saw. I always said Kobe was the next closest thing to Jordan. They not only could hang 50+ on an opponent, both could be lockdown defenders when they set their mind to it. You just didn't see that type speed and agility coupled with shooting ability in 6'6" players. Maybe once a generation if you were lucky.

The goal has always been long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, hopefully straighter could be achieved more than occasionally?

Very sad, surreal and kind of scary sitting in church just 7 miles from the crash site this morning. Many of you know I am one of the bigger Laker fans in the world(have not missed a game since 1987) and the games that I don't see live are always on the DVR and watched asap. With that being said I grew up with Kobe. Kobe you inspired me to work hard at my craft. Something you always knew was number 8/24 was always putting in the work at 4am in the morning and was coming to play that day/night. His motto was I am going to work harder than you. Incredible WORK ETHIC. Something I think that whether you are a junior golfer, freshman basketball player or any young athlete is inspirational. Records, championships, stats aside(which are incredible) my thoughts and prayers are with his daughters, wife and family.

Give all your family and friends your love. Life is short.

Lets not forget there were 8 other people on board including his daughter and another young girl from the team. A sad day for several families who lost family members so suddenly and unexpectedly. My heart goes out to all who lost someone today in this terrible crash!

Sadly my former Summer ball Coach was on this flight with his wife and daughter. My thoughts are with everyone.

I am still shaken like others today about this tragedy. Empathizing for the families torn to pieces as a parent and spouse than anything else. Was a difficult morning meditation for me as I tried to get heart centered in order to send that love to all that are suffering. Giving my love, prayers and healing thoughts throughout today and who knows how long.
