Today marks the anniversary of the 2019 Valentines Day Flood that decimated portions of many golf courses in Palm Springs. Hit hardest was Cimarron Golf Resort in Cathedral City. I made a special trip to Palm Springs yesterday to meet their GM Katie Myers to learn about the amazing story of how they restored the golf course just in time for the 2020 season essentially saving it from closing. The portions of the course you see in this photo snapped yesterday were wiped out a year ago. Now its back and in beautiful condition. Its remarkable how not only their ownership/management came together but also many volunteering their time and love for the game to see it through. We are seeing many golf courses closing nowadays how about a feel good story about one that was able to stay open - Thank you to everyone that made this happen - Happy Valentines Day - what a difference a year makes!

It is.

They slightly reshaped some holes when they moved the tons and tons of sand that was dislodged in the wash. The middle of the course was under probably 10' of fast running water after it rained 18" within 24 hours locally. When the water subsided, an area probably 100 yards wide going down the middle of course was just gone. The middle of fairways on one side looked normal, the other side of what used to be that fairway was sand with about a 10' dropoff from the undisturbed grass area to where the rest was washed away.

They did an amazing job, they had heavy equipment in there for at least 6 months renovating things.

The goal has always been long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, hopefully straighter could be achieved more than occasionally?

I played this track with my monthly mens club in early Jan and it was in great shape. They did a fantastic job repairing the damage. You would never know they ever had any damage.

I played there about a month ago. It was absolutely beautiful. I didn't know about the severe damage. But I kept thinking that one of the holes had fewer mounds around the green. I couldn't quite figure it out but now it makes sense

We Love this gem of a course, especially in the summer when rates are super (IF you can handle the heat)...great deals.
Looking forward to teeing it up there this summer. Soooo happy they were able to keep it open. It looks like their labors of love paid off.
