Hi GKers.

I'm trying to see if we can get our efforts together and compile a list of "new courses" and "closed courses" that you know of on this thread ...say a time frame within the last 15 years.

Mainly my reason is to see these numbers at a glance, but I'm sure it'll be fun to do the process. Add a date if you know when they opened or closed if you feel like it.

New Built Course:
1.
2.
3.
4.

Closed Courses:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

The goal is long and straight! But on the many times I cannot seem to hit them straight, I at least want to hit them long!

Thanks Matt for listing some "new" courses that opened since the turn of the millennium.

Otherwise, there have been a handful of courses that reopened in the past few years. They may have been significantly renovated and with new/old names, but they were resurrected from courses that closed previously.

1. Rams Hill
2. Warner Springs Ranch Resort
3. The Links Championship at Summerly
4. Birch Hills
5. Hawk's Landing (built on what was once Blue Skies Country Club)
6. Reflection Bay (if we're not just talking about SoCal)

There are many courses that have closed in the past 15 years. I know there's a lot more than this, but here's a very sad list to get everyone going. (In no particular geographic, chronological or alphabetical order.)
1. El Rancho Verde
2. El Rivino
3. Riverside GC
4. Claremont GC
5. Quail Ranch
6. Rancho Mirage CC
7. Malibu
8. El Toro
9. Ridgeline
10. Buena Park Golf Center
11. The Cascades
12. Carmel Highland
13. Cypress GC
14. Diablo Grande (Legends West)
15. Lost Canyons (Shadow)
16. Green River (two courses condensed into one)
17. Escondido CC
18. Moreno Valley Ranch
19. Mountain View (in Corona)
20. San Luis Rey Downs
21. Sycamore Canyon
22. Wasco Valley Rose
23. Stevinson Ranch

Also I'll add on some short courses, and some courses I don't see here that I have seen opened and closed, unfortunately I don't know what date or year they closed or opened

New Courses
1. Links at Terrenea
2. The Crossings at Carlsbad-opened August 2007

Closed Courses
1. Dominguez Hills
2. Doubletree Golf Resort San Diego
3. Makena-South (in Maui, Hawaii)
4. Ozzie Osborn's Par 3-in Santa Paula in Ventura

Also you guys should add courses that were converted from private to public in this discussion

I'll start off from what I know

Converted Courses from Private to Public
1. Vellano

Unfortunately the course I played in Maui, Hawaii back in August 2011 went the other way, it temporarily closed for renovations, and it was converted from public/resort to private which was Makena-North Course, and earlier they had a South Course which was closed already when I went there in August 2011, and it never reopened.

While it is outside the 15 year time frame, Imperial located in Brea closed about a year prior to the opening of Coyote Hills. ( I last played it on 2/5/97) Also closing were Marina ( 9 hole course in Marina Del Rey and Inglewood, an executive course adjacent to the Forum)

Note that the Champions Club was originally private. The Retreat as it was called. First time I played it the green fees were $125 plus mandatory caddy. I was provided a comp round because the Director of Golf was one of the professionals at Coto. Things sure changed there!

QUOTED  While it is outside the 15 year time frame, Imperial located in Brea closed about a year prior to the opening of Coyote Hills. ( I last played it on 2/5/97) Also closing were Marina ( 9 hole course in Marina Del Rey and Inglewood, an executive course adjacent to the Forum)

I remember you mentioning those courses like Marina, Hasley Canyon, and Imperial on a past discussion thread, and I asked you about more information about these courses. You then replied that you have scorecards of these courses that closed down, and to let you know if we want to see them.

Well I forgot about the post I posted, and I want to see the scorecards of these courses such as Marina, Imperial, Hasley Canyon, and Inglewood. Please post a picture of the scorecards of these courses if you have them, because I'm curious about these courses that closed down long time ago. That would be good, Thanks

Also, I was aware that the LA Open was played in the Inglewood Country Club for a couple of years, so when you mentioned Inglewood in the past thread, I thought you were talking about that. But since you mentioned that it's an executive course across from the Forum, I want to know more about this course. This is interesting, and I didn't know there was a course across from the Forum. Please also give me more of a description of the Inglewood course that was across from the Forum. Thanks!

Adding to courses that have closed in the past, I also know that there used to be small course in Griffith Park called Coolidge back in the day, and now it's the Tregnan Golf Academy at Coolidge, where I learned the game and took lessons for 2 years back when I was in HS. Can you or anyone also add details on the Coolidge Course in Griffith Park back in the day.

A couple more closed I forgot. Not sure when and I never played any of them, but I know there were these courses at some point amidst my research in finding EVERY course I could in SoCal.

Lake Elizabeth
Westwinds (on the Victorville logistics base)
Pt. Mugu
Santa Paula GC

I believe Palm Springs CC mentioned above was also named Whitewater CC at one point?

tcmae, Carmel Highland on my list is the same as Doubletree on your list. They had changed names a few years before closing.

Aliso Viejo CC in Aliso Viejo underwent changes and also went from fairly open to private a few years ago. Originally built as 27 holes, the Nicklaus design was fairly short and wedged into adjacent sloping canyons in the middle of a developing urban area. In early 2000's real estate was so hot that 9 holes were bulldozed and houses/condos built - one hole lost was the attractive par 3 over a lake that fronted the entry street.
