Anyone ever have a hole or 2 during a round where you play like a tour player and then can’t figure out how you did it? I’m playing pretty good last weekend and then I triple number nine. It’s a beautiful Arizona day and I get over my bad hole by the tenth tee. I will start by disclosing that I carry my driver about 230 and my 6 iron about 150. On the straight, flat 420 yard 10th hole I hit a really great feeling high draw right down the middle. I get to my ball and my laser says I have 68 yards to the pin. I’m scratching my head and have no explanation. I move to the 170 yard par three 11th. It’s a back pin with lots of trouble so I decide to play a safe 6 iron to the front of the green and hope it runs out. I carry my shot 190 right over the pin. More head scratching. Then my regular game came back for the rest of the round. There’s got to be a good explanation but I can’t figure it out. Thankfully I have witnesses so I know I’m not going crazy lol

Sometimes we simply get out of our own way.

Amen, rat-patrol.

A switch to smaller headed instruments, is always somewhere in there for us golfer's, as an option? They usually help us know when it was truly 'pure', vs not. Humble city.

Recently played 9 holes that was a tale of extremes within the 9 holes.

#2 on a long par 3. I pull my tee shot left into a palm tree. After searching, finally find my ball literally up against the boundary fence farther left. No potential relief or legal way to take an unplayable lie. Takes 2 shots to get it back in play, hit a poor chip and end up with a quad after missing a makeable putt for a triple.

#9 Great drive down the middle, now going for a par 5 in 2. 2nd shot hits a palm tree and I have no idea where it ended up, possibly still up in the tree? Take a lost ball penalty, next long iron in a left green side trap now in 4, short sided to a left pin. Got too cute with the sand shot and left it in the trap, then blast safely on but it takes a ridge and I 3 putt coming back up the slope from about 50' for another quad.

Terrible round, right? I had 3 birdies in the 6 holes in between and missed 2 birdie putts within 15' to card a 41 for the 9 holes. The six holes in between quads I looked like I knew what I was doing with good drives and irons all over the pin.

Go figure?

The goal is long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, could I at least hit them straighter?

“Tale of extremes”

Lol reminds me of a round from a couple years ago I tried to forget. I birdied the first 5 holes and then forgot how to play golf

The only time I played Primm Valley's Desert Course, I finished the last three holes of the front nine with double-quad-triple (or something like that). Then on the uphill, 473-yard par-4 10th, I hit driver-4 iron to about a foot for a kick-in birdie on possibly the hardest hole on the course.
