I was able to squeeze in a golf game visiting my family at San Mateo 05/25/08. I was able to book a single tee time with the staff and didn't have to wait at all. They sent me out as soon I got there even before my tee time. No time to warm up or test the greens. Anyhow, I played with three regulars. Two of them are in the mem's club and know the course very well. One of them was so nice to give me all the info I need about the layout and the greens. He was my caddy for the day. Thanks Richard! Greens was tough on first three holes and then got better. This couse was built on the mountain and does have many elevations. Nice views and has good layout. There were many elevated/undulating greens which makes the putting bit tougher. Greens are in very good condition. Fairways are also very good condition. Tee boxes are bit lush sometimes. No complain about the course but the fees are bit high. $81 with golf cart. This course remains me of Mountain Meadows at Pomona.
Overall I had a great time and will come back to play this course again.

Played early Saturday morning (2/9/07). Booked a 7:15 single tee time on-line and arrived at 6:55 and was told I was on the tee. They let me go out at my scheduled time as a 5th. Despite the chaotic start, played decent. Fairways still very soft and beat-up in spots, especially on the back. Greens and traps were in good shape but the tee boxes were pretty bad. Sandy, not level, etc. All in all one of my less favorite experiences at Crystal. Will probably stay away until spring.

A hilly golf course with a good variety of holes; if you don't like dealing with sidehill lies and a tee shot that hits the fairway but rolls off, don't play here. Greens vary in quality but are reasonable given the cost to play here. Fairways on the last 4-5 holes are as much sand as grass. Overall, you get what you pay for.

Played for the first time on 7/16/07. Very good layout, nice mix of holes. Pace of play was also good. Greens need alot of work, very inconsistent speeds and a bit bumpy.

I played Crystal Springs this past weekend for the super twilight online price of $32.00 w/cart. We finished in about 4 hours & 15 minutes.

The course was in great condition & the greens were fast. This is a very scenic course with a few deers roaming around the course. Freeway noise is present on a few holes but really shouldn't be a reason to avoid this course. This has to be one of the best bargains around the Bay Area.

Course is improved - consistent reasonably fast greens. Fairways are pretty well maintained. Still, most holes are pretty close to the freeway, and you do hear the freeway most of the time. It takes a bit away from the experience. We just played in the afternoon, and the winds were pretty bad, so stay away from afternoon play, especially in the summer (typical bay area phenomenon, but especially pronounced at this course, it seems). Generally, for the price one pays, it seems a bit overpriced. I play this place about once/twice a year, when I can find a good bargain online. I would never pay full price for it, though.
