Played this in the afternoon immediately after playing Pebble in the morning - not a fair comparison. Average muni track with a couple of beautiful ocean view holes. Lots of wildlife, saw deer and racoons. Play was a little slow, but played the back nine as a single and everyone was great about letting me play through. The front nine is surrounded by homes but the back nine is fairly open with some holes with ocean views. Great value given the location and the ocean views. A course closer to home is similar in many respects - San Clemente. San Clemente muni is a better track. I'd play this course again when I'm in the area.

First and (probably) the last time. If money was no object I would play this course again. This is a great course steeped in tradition and it was a memorable experience, especially with a caddy. I did stay off site at a B&B which reduced the overall cost considerably. This was my first time to use a caddy and I expected a bit more expertise at reading the greens (my reads were generally much better) but his course knowledge was very helpful and I highly reccomend a caddy if it is your first time. I had an 8:30 tee time so there was no wind. Wrapped it up in a bit over 4 hours. I played Pacific Grove (a muni course) for $42 in the afternoon when the wind kicked up a bit. Not nearly the course that Pebble is, but then I could play Pacific Grove 15 times and still have enough for a hotdog and a beer. Customer service was above average, but not the best I've had.

It's always better when you are hosted! Always a pleasure to play this course. The ocean views from 3 and 4 are great. Nice track with plenty of challenging holes. Pace of play has never been a problem for me here. great 19th hole as well.

Reseeding most of the tee boxes and tee markers poorly laid out on many holes. Some of the fairways had too many bare spots and none were marked as "under repair". You should not have to hit from the dirt on the fairway. I usually like this course and find it in great condition. That said, still had a great time and found the pace of play excellent. Only saw the cart girl once and the clubhouse is still under remodel. I paid full fare on a Sunday. They should have a lower price for these conditions. Bunkers were wet and thick.

Played twilight on 7/25/08 - $79 and well worth the price. Front and back nines were quite different but enjoyed both. Greens were a little bumpy on the back nine and slower as the afternoon progressed. Was disappointed that the cart girl closed up at 4:30. There are no coolers on the carts, no towels and no gps. I only mention this because of the normal green fee (high) and the heat during summer. Water coolers were well-placed arount the course. Although this was a day trip for me I'd like to bring the wife back. Nice looking resort. For $160 there are better courses; at $79 (or $59 on specials) this is a great bargain!

Played on 12/27 with a 10:35 tee time. Cool and windy but a spectacular day for oceanside golf. I have always enjoyed this course but for $235 I'm looking for perfection. This is basically the same course as before the closure with some refinements. The course has been lengthened a little. Some bunkers moved around, new fairway turf and new turf grown longer in the rough areas. The greens have wider aprons and a new laserlink system has been installed. Each cart has a hand held laser gun that picks up a target imbedded in the flagstick for accurate distance readings to the hole. These worked well but I still prefer my range finder as I get distances to hazards, etc. Lot's of employees but customer service a little spotty as described below. Curbside drop off was top notch. They also place your bag on the driving range (balls are included in the $235) and offer you bottled water. Nice touch. Unfortunately you hit off of artificial turf. The putting green is adequate (barely) and there is no short game area for chipping, sand, etc. There appeared to be another area for lessons on the other side of the range - probably for lessons. I believe there may have been a short game area at that location. The pro shop was nicely appointed. Not as much service in the pro shop. It took too long to get someone's attention to check in. There is a bit of a drive to the first tee and the starter was knowledgeable but they do not track pin placements for you (due to the laserlink system?). Ocean views from nearly every hole make the $235 nearly worth spending on a clear day like ours. The ocean views were spectacular with visibility past Catalina out to San Clemente Island. $10 million+ homes added to the view. The wind made the course a bit more challenging. The course was well maintained. Marshals were not evident this day and we ended up waiting on nearly every hole. The standard at this course is apparently 5 hours and 15 minutes. We finished in 5 1/2 hours. The views kept us entertained but there was really no reason to tolerate slow play. Due to the ongoing construction and layout, there is no opportunity for a snack at the turn. You must rely on the beverage carts. We saw them about three times during the round. Warm towels at the end of the round were a nice touch. The men's locker room was goergus but seemed unattended. The 19th hole was very nice, albeit expensive. $12 + cocktails. The pizza was very good. Bottom line -- this is the essentially the same course at a much higher price. Twilight rates are $149 -- a $50 increase from the old prices. Although I enjoyed the day immensly, at $235 I doubt I will be back soon.

Played Thursday at noon. Greens seemed a bit slower than usual. Some of the blue tee boxes had been resod and were wet. Not sure why they did not relocate the tee markers to other areas. Did not seem to impact play much. Nice to have a great public course this close to home.

Played this course for the first time. Teed off today in the afternoon. Pace was excellent as we finished in just over 4 hours. Very enjoyable track, although I am not a big fan of bermuda. We did not experience the wetness others have commented on. Seemed to get pretty decent roll on the fairways. Greens were bumpy and slow. Players here need to repair their ball marks. I repaired 4 or 5 every hole and did not make a dent. Bunkers were a bit crusty on some holes. Players also need to rake the bunkers after their play. Some water comes into play on a couple of holes, but bunkers and rough are the hazards here. Few houses make for a nice walk. Generally wide fairways make for a nice driver day. However, plenty of doglegs and trees to things interesting. Never saw the cartgirl but the bar/restaurant staff were pleasant. All in, a nice muni course I would play again. Great value too.

Course is in beautiful condition. Had a Monday 7:00 a.m. tee time but driving range did not open until 6:30 am. Got a few warmup strokes in with the $9.00 balls, a bit steep for a small bag. The senior rate (55 and older) at $65 for the M-TH was a good value for an OC course of this quality. No GPS but the small cooler with ice and two bottles of water were a nice touch. Good coverage by the cart girl. Four or five holes were cart path only. Yardage markers on sprinkler heads were sufficient but cart path markings could have helped on the cart path only holes. Only complaint on conditions was the amount of moisture on parts of the fairways. A bit soggy in some areas but generally excellent conditions. Five sets of tees offer a great track for high and low handicappers. Clubhouse is modest for a course of this price range -- good restaurant but no shower facilities. Practice facilities are the best in the area with a large grass driving range, chipping and sand area and two nice putting areas. No more freebies on the chipping area, you have to rent the ball tubes for $5. Shag-bags not allowed. Overall, not a great value at the $145 posted for weekend rates and $105 posted for weekdays; but if discounted, a great value.

Course is in great condition. Bunkers could be better. Need to get the cart girl out earlier and around more frequently. Nice practice area with bunker, chipping green, several putting greens that are well maintained. I always enjoy this course.

Great conditions. The tee box on 17 could be more level and the bunkers are variable. Pace is decent. Clubhouse food is good.
