This is a great course in outstanding condition-no other way to describe it. Thoroughly enjoyed the round, and the concept of sending every group out with a forecaddie is brilliant. It eliminates all those mistakes made from not knowing a course the first time you play it, saved me at least 4 strokes.
The course is popular, so book a tee time in advance.

Course is in much the same shape as I reported a few months back. Getting out early is a must for a 4 1/2 hour round. If you get out after 8:30-9:00 AM watch out...you could be in for a long day!
Greens are in surprisingly good shape for a course that gets played this much.

I have played this course a couple of times and in all honesty it is a bit too "quirky" for me. From the tee boxes and up the fairways all is well, but when you get to these rather peculiar greens and surrounding areas you just lose me. I understand the "British Open" style and what they are going for...don't mistake me. The bottom line is that many of the areas adjacent to the greens IN THE FAIRWAY are rock hard pan that you cannot chip off of, and I don't think a putter was ever meant to be used at 35 yards like I see a lot of people doing routinely on this course.
Add to this the pin placements and greens that are in some sense like the old minature golf courses. Strange hilly mounds and valleys with pin placemnts so weird that I heard a single digit handicapper I was paired with refer to one hole as "like the old volcano hole at the mini golf courses I played as a kid."
I should have been suspicious when on the course website it said, "You'll enjoy this course more with repeat playing". I see why frequent players might enjoy the course and its oddities, but for someone like myself who plays other top courses in the area, I prefer a course that is a fair challenge every time out-you don't need to play 10 times to get the "hang of it".

Played today and course was in excellent condition. Wide open and no waits...just the way you like it. Service was great. Saw the cart girl three times in 18 holes and very friendly desk and service staff also. I felt the service was better here than at Moorpark CC or Angeles National, althought those courses are in the same good condition.

Played here again today and had a good round. They just came out of overseeding so the fairways are still a little thin. I had at least two shots that were dead center in the fairway where my second shot was negatively effected by the lack of full growth. The course is a few eeeks away from being truly back to the condition you expect here.
Also-play is slower than usual because they are "cart paths only" until the end of this month.
I will wait another month or so before playing again as the course is clearly not in the shape I expect for $100 rounds.

"Goat Ranch" is too high end. I would use the phrase my playing partner quoted while we were on the course...Dog Track. Not only poor fairway condition...the greens were reminiscent of a pimply faced teenager. It was hard to find my ball mark to repiar it amongst all the other marks on the green on several occassions.
I won't be playing here again any time soon, Nad I would recommend any of the Sepulveda Basin courses (Balboa, Encino, or Woodley Lakes) over this course as they cost about the same are in much better condition for "much played" courses.

Played Thursday the 29th. Four of us got through in 4 1/2 hours...I was pleasantly surprised. Fairways are wide and forgiving, greens are in good shape, excellent for City Course. i haven't played this course in several years and it was a good to see it in shape. I plyed Rancho recently and this course was in just as good a shape and played more quickly.
