Played a late afternoon round and the pace was fantastic, would have been under two hours but I caught groups the last few holes.

Still the same fun scenic course with conditioning issues. The narrow tree lined fairways, small greens, and the holes with the river always place a premium on accuracy over length on this relatively short course.

There were the extremes of soggy wet areas of fairway all the way to dry bare areas. The tee boxes had good coverage but there are a lot of uneven areas. The greens were rolling smooth with slow/medium speed and were the best conditioned part of the course.

The mosquitos in a few areas of the course were completely out of control. I had half a dozen bites and several dozen confirmed kills by the time I surrendered to the little beasts. I then drove back to the clubhouse after the seventh hole to purchase bug spray. The staff was prepared with not only spray for sale but also cans for free usage. GREAT customer service to provide them, the staff here is always one of the best. The asst pro told me that mosquito abatement was scheduled to come out so it shouldn't be an issue for long.

Nature at its finest, we saw a bobcat and a family of deer. Wonderful locale nestled at the base of the foothills with the river running in/alongside several holes. Length is on the short side but the narrow holes/trees/river add challenge. Overall - Below average, Usually on par with many offerings in the area. The average design and poor conditions the day we played is enough to drag the rating down, regardless of the setting. Average when conditions are good. Pace - Good, Sub 4hr round was extended (a lot) the last three holes by a group of beginners. Course conditions - Fair to poor, The 1st and 17th greens were reseeded and very shaggy/bumpy, from what I assume to be some serious damage/fungus? Rest of course was typical winter conditions with areas that were poor even for winter. Staff - Good, Friendly and helpful, with an amazing ability to recognize even occasional patrons(me). Value - Below average, Difficult (impossible?) to find deals, prices are higher than most other local courses. Food - Average, Small bar/grill with typical offerings. Good inside seating with view of the river. Facilities - Average, Older well maintained, love the stone work on parts of the buildings. Small grass range. This is a course I recommend for the rotation for those in the area. Those traveling this is probably a one and done.

Sherwood Forest is a course out of the way, and not that many people outside the local area really know about it. But this tightly tree lined course, is a course where you need to be fairly straight because if you start playing out of the trees, you are in for an adventure, to say the least! Most of the greens are good sized, but quite a few dead spots that you have to navigate. Most of the time you want to leave it below the hole for an up hill putt, but if you happen to leave it above the hole, it can do some funny things. Hardest stretch of holes are probably 7-9, which the Par 4 7th, is a dogleg left, hitting a draw around the big trees on the left is a great shot but you can also tee it up on the right hand side of the tee box and aim at the 150 marker for the straight hitters, but be careful of the big fade or slice, because there are trees right, that can sometimes hold a ball in, but other times puts your ball OB and in the parking lot. I've seen many balls go OB on both sides. The short par 4 8th is a VERY narrow fairway with OB left and a ton of trees right, hitting something other than driver here can be the play, but if you can hit a good drive you can leave yourself a short wedge into a sloping green for a birdie opportunity. Finally, the 9th which is another shorter Par 4, with a creek left and the same trees from 8 but now on the right. Your second shot has to be kept straight because the over hanging trees will keep you from anything else. Do not miss long on this hole, with the creek left of the green and OB behind the hole. The back 9 is for the most part straight forward with a Par 5 14th that will make you decide to go over the same creek in 2 or lay up short of the creek and go at the green on your third shot. All in all a low end muni course, but a fun little course to hack around at. But keep in mind, if you hit it in the trees, take your medicine and don't try to play hero and try something spectacular, punch out and live to see another hole!

Played 3/23/13, the greens were over run with poa-annua and a couple had ruts that you have to putt through. The course was built in the 60s Beautiful property along the river and it is tree lined and there's a lot of short holes that you are better off teeing up with an Iron, A driver can get you into trouble should it stray and keeps rolling. The front 9 starts off easy, Flat but small greens and gets tough on 7 were it doglegs left, then a short but tight 8th and the dogleg right 9th that tilts left toward the river. The back nine is a little tougher, the greens are more undulating with tilt keep it below or you will have a slider with sudden break at the end and there is more water in play. After the round the woman at the snack bar was grumpy because we bothered while she was on a smoke break, but overall a pleasant place to play.

On our way down to play a course we stopped by Sherwood Forest to play 18 holes. Well if you want to point something that is obvious, it is not in a very accessible area. If you are going there for your first time it will seem a long way away. It is a fun golf course for the community.
The layout is interesting, there are some really fun holes and then there are some really simple holes. There are some more challenging holes. Most of the course is short, however you do have to work the ball a little to not be in the trees and there are some holes where the tee shot is critical.
There are a lot of trees (hince Sherwood Forest?) but most of the fairways are forgiving.

They have short 4 par, that was the tightest tee shot I have seen in a long time. If you got through straight then it was a birdie holes for sure.

It is a municipal course and is good for working on your game. The greens were the best part of the course, seemed smooth but not very fast. Although the rolled pretty good. The sand was in good condition, and the tee boxes were okay. Some had some divot issues but not alot.

Fairways where average but you could really make good contact with the ball if you were on the fairway. Most of the fairways were tree lined and didnt allow for errant shots to be recovered. Trees in front and behind, most times required you to punch out.

If you are in the area it is a good fun course to work on your game.

Place is a pretty good value; $29 to walk on the weekends but imo you definitely get what you pay for. The course is pretty mickey mouse with several holes being short but having trees come into play... Continue »

The course is pretty mickey mouse with several holes being short but having trees come into play immediately off the tee box. There are at least four holes where power lines come into play and there is a trailer park inside the course. On the plus side the greens were puttable albeit hard and slow (a tough combination) and there are some really nice holes with 7, 14 and 17 coming immediately to mind. If you happen to be in the sanger/reedley area it might be worth stopping by but absolutely do not make a special trip to go play this place.

Very good price, good conditions. Challenging course but not too hard for us begginers. I will play there again soon.

I love this course! Lots of old trees, but finding yourself out of the fairway doesn't mean you can't save the hole. Ridge Creek in Dinuba is much less forgiving. Waist tall rough makes it extremely difficult to save your round if you don't drive the fairway.
