Played the day after Easter with C'Debaca, O'Hare and Templeton, . Only Templeton had play ed the course before. Wide open fairways and links style course still presented challenges. Number 4 (gold tees) over water (150+ yds) still made for a challenging shot. Number 11 (long par three on the back) teebox increased heart rate for all with O'Hare deciding to traverse the marsh instead of playing from the drop zone. Nuff said. Snowman appeared. Was fortunate to 1 put and par the 15th only to stumble on the way in with the 16th (water all the way on left) and the long par three 17th (200+) providing challenges to foursome. Would definitely play again.

I heard about this course from a friend of mine so decided to give it a try today. This course was designed in 2001 on a prairie facing west toward the Rocky Mountains so i knew the course would still be very young. What I did not know was how much watering they do here as the fairways were very wet with some areas of standing water, and a few of the greenside bunkers also having puddles of water in them. The course it self was in very good condition considering all the water that was used. Fairways were trim and neat with some areas of divot marks not repaired by the golfers and there were really no hidden problems that you could see from the tee box. In fact you are able to play each hole properly from tee to green without having to find a hidden bunker or hazzard. Trees are still very young so they do not pose a reasl problem for you but some of the rough surrounding these holes can send you home scratching your head. The first hole is a par four straight with anarrow aproach green is protected by two huge deep bunkers and the green itself is contured uphill from approach.Hole 2 is a par four downhill tee shot be careful of the greenside bunkers there huge. The green is oval shaped and flatter in nature. This was one of the wetter fairways we encountered today. Hole 3 is the first of the par 5's and this is one of the harder ones on the course. There are very big bunkers alongside the fairway and this area is alittle narrow with big hills on both sides.There is a very big bunker just before the approach of the green but the green waiting for you is big and easy to read.Hole 4 is the hole I had been waiting to play, a 145 yard (from the Blue) to an Island green surrounded by sand. There is a one ball hit rule here if it gets wet you are to carry over to the drop zone. Hole 5 is another par 5 and is the easiest of all. Just a basic long tee shot second shot up hill slightly and another oversized green.Hole 6 has water left of the fairway and has some bad rough on the right side the green is elevated and contured three ways. Hole 7 has a split fairway go left or right around the tall hill and you are only a short iron from a rolling layered green protected by a large bunker.Hole 9 is a par four up hill playing very wide with a large pond 20yds from the green. The front side looked like you were playing in a park while the back nine gave you the feel of wilderness was lurking. Ten is a downhill tee shot with both sides much higher putting you in a valley feeling.The approach is narrow but the green is safe. Hole 11 is like number four but here you tee up over a swamp, even the green has the swamp on two sides and rear giving you only the front to hit. Again there is a drop area for those who enter the nasty stuff.Hole 12 is teed up next to this same swamp and you tee off over the trail end of it to a very inviting fairway up hill.There are two very large and deep bunkers around a flat green. Thirteen is a easy par 5, drive it long and you can layup at the creek just short of the green and get a nice bird here.Fourteen is a par 4 with again wide fairways and a easy to read green. On 15 you have some trees that come into play and a very large flat green . Hole 16 is another interesting one out here. It is a short par 4 only 277 yards. The best shot here must be put over a very large body of water and hoping the wind is not heavy you will have driven the green. There is a drop zone on this hole for those who miss it (we found this out after the fact as it was not posted) or go the long way around. There are very big and very deep bunkers protecting this green should you decide to fly it over so be careful. Seventeen is a simple long par three just a typical hole here. Your finish hole is just like number nine, an uphill waide tee shot, large bunkers in the fairways to keep you honest and a easy approach shot to a large and flat green. The back nine has a lot of very deep rough that is there if you happen to push your shots left or right. The areas surrounding the green and the fairways also have very deep and lush grass that can cause you to fly the ball if you miss hit it a little. Overall this course was a very good challenge to us today if only they had not watered the course so heavy. My two complaints about this course was the pace of play and the staff working there. We played this round in just over 5 1/2 hours!!!! There was a club tournament being played before us between the best of this place and another golf course nearby. We were never informed of this taking place when we reserved our tee time, and when we were to tee it up were told that they were real good players and would go fast. On several tee boxes there were up to four groups waiting to tee off. After nine holes I talked to the staff in the pro shop and was told basicly "oh well that is how Sundays are here". Even the cart girl did seem like she wanted to be there working. Forgetting these two problems this course is a challengeing one with five differant tee boxes ranging from 4,900 yds to 7,000yds.Saddleback is located in Weld County 2 1/2 miles South of 119 in Firestone Colorado East of I25.
