Just got the latest version for Xmas, and used twice now. So far, excellent! Very easy to use right out of the box. The new feature that allows to change over to triple A batteries is a comfort, although I used it for 2 rounds after only one charge, and it still has juice. The no annual fee is very appealing, and the fact it has all the courses info in it, is great! Checking courses I play in both Ca and Fl, all were on it. I had a Sky Caddy and because I play many different courses, and travel alot meant if I played a course in the spur of the moment, I didn't have the info. Frustration! Accuracy difered from the GPS unit on one course I played, but my playing partners and I suspect the Golf Buddy was more accurate? Could that really be? It does take a minute or so to settle into the true yardage, but the ease of it overcomes it. Shot yardage is easy to get and is a nice feature. ialso just compared it to the Golf Buddy Tour, but the difference of color vs B&W doesn't justify the price increase and the color unit seems a bit difficult to read in bright sunlight. In short, this is a great unit for the price. Not as fancy as others but well worth it. It will shave a few strokes and make the game more fun too!

Finally broke down with a GPS system.

Versus a range finder especially the new fangled ones where a shakey hand can still get distances read... the range finder is a lot more flexible. However if that isn't your cup of tea this little baby is the next best thing. For mean I need to know distance especially carry versus roll so the use of this Golf Buddy suits me best. I rarely underhit or fly the greens nowadays. The controls are relatively easy. Only complaint is the battery life is only really good for two rounds and a car charger is NOT included with the basic setup. I would take the car charger in lieu of a socket charger any day. The system is small for my bag easy to carry and I do. It doesn't get in the way of a swing and its readily available. Was checking out the accuracy of this unit and noticed it will fudge 6-9 yards. Typically it will give distance with a variance of just minus 6-9 yards for front and back of green locations. Not bad if you consider your ball can roll onto the green for front pin locations and can stick to the green for back pin placement. Like I said suits me fine and allows me to focus on the task at hand -- changing the condition of the ball and ensuring that condition changes with each shot.

I like the info this gadget gives out, and I like that the courses are pre-loaded without any computer hook ups or extra subscription fees. I am not completely confident that the yardages are spot on, because I have had two range finders standing at the exact same spot and have had discrepancies of five to ten yards. Who's to say what was right. I am not saying I hit laser guided distance shots, just that it would be nice to know for sure how far it actually is so that you can dial in your clubs.
I like the hazard yardage front and back distance of bunkers is a big help. It does not tell you lay-up yards but it is easy to subtract 100 yards from the number you are trying to hit.
I have had a problem with the unit not having a charge when I get to some courses. I don't know if was leaning in the bag and got turned on by accident, or ?? It has happened 3 times when I know it was fully charged when put into the bag.
I read the new models coming out have a AAA battery back up feature.
There has only been one course that was not in the unit, which was Vista Valencia, a par 62 course.
If I had the chance to get the one with the battery option I would have waited. These units do save you shots on the course.

Great GPS Unit For The Money!
Friday March 14, 2008
I love the Golf Buddy Plus, it's not as expensive (I got mine on eBay for just over $200 new) as most of it's competitors and there are NO ANNUAL FEES... it's competitors charge from $30 - $60 a year. I've checked it for accuracy using my range finder and it's like splitting hairs... to close to even say that there's any difference. The other very nice thing is it's capacity for storing golf courses, it's the competition beat hands down... this compact unit stores up to 1000 courses that can be updated and changed to your preference through the internet. I like my range finder for some things but for ease of use and yardages... the Golf Buddy Plus.
