I bought the SGx last summer, but I didn't open it until march, when my SG2 subscription expired. Out of the box, it was a bit difficult to get going. I was trying to update it, and it froze on me, and I had to call customer service.. they were able to do it through remote access (that makes me nervous to give them access to my computer, but the process was much simpler to have them do it) in about 60 min. Once it was updated, everything works great. All of the previous reviewer's concerns, I haven't seen at all... It works reliably, quickly... it took me a while to figure out how to access the advanced features (have to download the course from online, which requires subscription)... but once I figured that out, it's now a piece of cake. The mark feature is reliable, but I always forget to use it... the scorecard feature is great... and it can track putts and fairways.. then when you upload the sgx, it uploads the rounds and keeps your stats.. very easy to use. and I like to use it to keep score, so I don't fixate on my score while playing... battery life is about 10-12 hours.. I've played 4 3-4 hour rounds on one charge. Overall I am pleased.. knocked the rating down for updating problems. » Close

I recently purchased the SkyCaddie SGX GPS device. I have owned 2 Sky Caddies before, the SG4, and the SG5 and now the SGX. I have used it 5 times now, purchased the top tier membership plan. I am not overly pleased with the SGX. The screen is certainly larger that the 5 and it does have good graphics. Distances displayed are quite accurate (I compared them to 2 different on cart GPS systems). I find that the device tends to take some time to re-calculate my distances, it is slow to change even if I am walking. It seems to be much slower than the SG5. I have used both devices simultaneously once and the SG5 was faster. My other concerns and complaints are that every so often I get an error message and I have to power off, and restart, that has happened twice in 5 rounds. The round is resumed where I left off but it is a hassle. Secondly the "mark ball" feature. I use it for my tee shots, and although I have hit the "mark ball" button and the message indicates the ball is marked, of the 5 rounds not one has had the complete yardage marked (saved), so I have now taken to manually jotting down the distance from tee which is displayed, but not saved after marking again. Today there were only 12 of the14 holes ( I don't use the mark ball feature on the par 3's) yesterday there were only 10. Just to ensure I was doing what I was supposed to do, the last 2 rounds I had my playing partner confirm that I was indeed doing it correctly, both at the tee, and at my ball. Another issue I've had three times is that the "auto" hole advance doesn't always work, it works for some of the round, then I have to manually advance to the next hole. Other issues: the tether on the rubber "plug" that goes into the USB port on the device came out and it took me quite a while to get it back in, and today something happened to the belt clip and the device wouldn't "click" into the holster, and wont now, so something came out/broke. However that is not just on the SGX, I have had the same issues with both previous devices, and they were replaced. As with the other 2, I don't think the SGX can get 2 rounds of golf in, without a charge. I know the SG5 could "sometimes", and haven't tried it with the SGX, but just looking at the charge meter after a 4 hour round, it shows less than half a charge left, I'll try that at a later date. » Close
