Played 11/19. Course is in great shape, consistently one of the best in my area. Fairways had some brown spots, but unlike most courses, they weren't a hassle/nuisance. Fairways were cut SUPER short so you got a lot of roll out of your tee shots. Areas that impressed me the most were the shaved banks/bailout areas around the greens-they were immaculate.
Course is made even better by being way more of a challenge than anything else around with the layout, setting, and way it makes you think. Many golfers will have to think about what to hit next instead of automatically pulling out a club based on distance.
Only negative I'd say is that if you are a high handicapper it could be easy to get frustrated especially with the crazy undulations in some of the greens (ahem...#5 & 12). You can feel like you're putting across a continent if you end up in the wrong spot.

Played Veteran's Day & course is like the previous review said-not in very good shape. Many holes were cart path only because they had reseeded-and a very bad reseeding job at that. Clumps of grass here, bare spots there, divots there, and mounds of pellets/dirt in the middle of the fairways. It will take time, but the course looks as bad as it does coming down the freeway. On #14 I hit my tee shot right and had to hit my 2nd off a giant area of hard-pan & bare dirt-overall hard to find a good lie to reward your good tee shot. Didn't find any traps. Greens were lush but still had obvious signs of punch marks so no true rolls AT ALL.
Didn't see any staff besides the starter & one maintenance man, which could've been a good thing for a less bothersome round or a bad thing for a terrible course.
To make matters worse the wind was blowing pretty hard, so I had to watch my back when I had to hit under a palm tree on #2 that almost hit me with a falling frond. TRIM YOUR TREES!
Only reason I like this place anymore is because the layout is more diverse & challenging than anything besides Rustic in North LA/Ventura County in my opinion.

Played yesterday. Fairways were in decent condition, about 70% green. Greens were SO SLOW it wasn't even funny. Four-putted the first hole from 18 feet. They were like shag carpet the entire round (maybe because of the heat they're letting them grow longer?). They also had a lot of unrepaired ball marks (not necessarily staff's fault). Anyway, bunkers were not terrible but not good-not necessarily soft fluffy stuff but not hard-pan-very coarse and grainy almost like play sand at a park. Tee boxes had bunches of weeds growing in them, although there were some on the back nine that look brand new. Some areas of the fairways had standing water in them from the staff leaving sprinklers on all day.
All in all, this course is great for the beginner or if you've been playing poorly lately. Very flat and short, under 5,000yds. from the blue tees. Only major fear factor is the water on a few holes, otherwise you should score well.

Played 9/4. Course has gone slightly downhill since I last played, but most of that are people's faults, not the staff's. Greens had TONS of divots in them (unrepaired)-most I have seen on any course. On almost every green approach shots would make big divots, but putts, once they were by the hole would go flying by on top of being already fast greens. Fairways were okay-it was a lot of patchy, different kinds of grass except for hole #4 which had some unmowed parts of the fairway. People don't seem to fill their divots around here. Tee boxes were like that as well creating unlevel lies.
Couple of bunkers I was in had good sand, although the edges of the bunkers were not really well-defined. My ball got hung up on the lip of a bunker where there should've been grass but was a mess of sand. This is especially evident on the 9th hole where the bunker (and hole in general) is very sloppy. Wherever they let the rough go wild on the hillsides bordering houses, good luck if your ball lands there. Lake between holes 4-5 was full of disgusting algae that wasn't there last time either.

SD Golf Trip Course #2-Whoo the rough is tough & tall here! Just another reason to stay in the fairway. Overall most of us go to Torrey for the experience, and the views didn't disappoint. The golf however was a little below what I thought it was going to be (guess I can't hold San Diego Municipal Golf Courses too high!). Kinda got nasty towards the end of the round when they started aerating fairways right in the middle of us playing, then dumping a bunch of fertilizer that just carried away into our faces as dust. Also, a staff member working by the green I was playing on took my wedge before we were even finished with the hole! So, I was going to pick it up but instead panicked (got it back 10min. later fortunately). More hardpan, bone dry areas than I expected, but looking at the South Course after the round and comparing it i can see why it is more expensive; it is in much better shape. Fortunately they were spot-watering most of the brown areas. Around the greens it was very lush and tough, but fair to play out of. Greens were pretty consistent except for two holes which were MUCH softer compared to the others. One of the guys we were paired with hit an approach shot that just stuck in its own pitch mark it was so soft!

Course #1 of SD golf vacation. Place is tucked away against the hills, kind of reminds me of Simi Hills GC the way it is set up. Lots of elevation changes, especially on the back nine. Fairways definitely aren't perfect, but are far from bad-only a few bare spots/hardpan here and there. Rough was weird. It seemed like every hole there were two different kinds-either lush, thick and tall or short and a little dry. Greens had minimal divot marks, and the two bunkers I was in had very good sand, especially the 16th hole. Would definitely play here again considering the price, too bad a lot of stuff was tented since they were fumigating though :/
