Walked on early morning teeing off about 6:40 finishing in 3:50. The greens are fully recovered from aeration and in good condition. Greens rolled at the lower end of fast, smooth, and held shots. Being above the hole today was not a good idea. The fairways had overall good coverage with a few thinning spots and allowed for decent rollout off the tee. The rough around the greens was long enough to affect shots but nothing too difficult. The rough along the fairways was on the low side with decent coverage and some thin/bare spots. The bunkers were groomed and played good (I was in 3 greenside). The tee boxes have decent coverage and are mildly unlevel in spots. Navy has good practice areas, a nice clubhouse with cafe and bar, and friendly staff.

Played Tuesday morning teeing off about 6:40 finishing in 3:45. The greens rolled mostly smooth, speed was low end of fast, and held shots. The fairways were in good+ condition with a few thin spots. The rough was mostly good with some thin/bare spots and long enough to affect shots but not overly penal. The bunkers were well groomed with decent sand. The tee boxes had mostly good coverage and were mildly unlevel. Always enjoy a round at Eldo. Nice parkland design with large mature trees. Some holes will test driving accuracy and water comes into play on several holes. Staff was friendly.

Walked on early this morning teeing off just after 6:30 finishing in 3:45. The greens are close to full recovery from aeration. They roll with medium speed and are a little bumpy but very playable. The fairways have very good coverage for the most part with a few thin spots. The rough along the fairways is cut fairly short. There is decent coverage with some thin/bare spots. The rough around the greens is a little longer but not too penal. The two bunkers I was in play decent and were well groomed. The tee boxes have good coverage but have some humps and bumps and are mildly unlevel in spots. Update from my last review on the lack of water in the ponds. The two wells that collapsed are repairable. The course is in the process of getting the approvals needed through the military to get the repairs done. I love the variety that the Destroyer course provides. Good practice areas. Nice club house. Staff was friendly.

Teed off at 6:25 finishing in 3:40. The greens are in good shape rolling smooth with medium/fast speed and holding shots. Aeration begins next week. The fairways have mostly good coverage but there are thin/bare spots. The rough is mostly good with with some thin/bare spots. The length is long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The bunkers appeared to be in good condition (not in any today). The tee boxes are mildly unlevel but have decent coverage. I enjoy the varied layout with some holes having rolling terrain and a few holes with water in play. The staff was friendly.

Teed off this morning about 7:40 finishing in 4:10. I like that the Long Beach city courses have maintained 10 minute tee time spreads. Hopefully it continues. The greens are almost recovered from aeration. There was a light top dressing with bumps her and there but the affect on putting was mild. The greens rolled medium+ speed and held shots. Another week and the greens should be great again. The fairways overall have good coverage with some thin spots. The rough has decent coverage with some thin/bare spots. The length is long enough to affect shots but not overly penal. The bunkers appeared to be in good condition but I was not in any today. The tee boxes had decent coverage and are mildly unlevel in spots. Always enjoy playing Eldo. The staff was friendly.

Second time out to Desert Willow, first time playing Firecliff. I had a tee time shortly after 8am playing with a twosome and another single(local guy). The customer service was wonderful. Parked the car and while walking through the parking lot an employee drove a cart to me put my bag on the cart and directed me to the clubhouse telling me my clubs would be waiting at the starter outside. I payed inside then checked in with the starter. I was given a beeper and told to take the cart with my bag and enjoy the practice facilities (part of green fee). When the beeper went off I went back to the starter who paired me and the other single into one cart. My group played in 4:15. The drink/snack cart came around several times.

The course is in great condition. The greens rolled smooth with a reasonable fast speed. The greens played a little firm. Shorter irons held decent while mid to long irons ran out a little. The only negative was the old cup rings were dotted around the green but they never affected roll. The fairways had great coverage and good lies with medium rollout off the tee. The rough had great coverage. The length was long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The fairway bunkers were well manicured. The greenside bunkers were well manicured although a little compacted at times but very playable. The tee boxes had good coverage and mostly flat.

After playing the Mountain View course in January of 2021 for a GK Guru round and reading in GK forums the high regard given to Firecliff it was at the top of my list when I came for a few days of RR to the area. I very much like both course but I do like Firecliff more. Being a non resident and playing during the prime time of year with prime morning tee time I expected to pay a prime green fee. I wasn't disappointed. The club house is beautiful, the practice facilities are nice, the course was in great shape, and the staff throughout the day were helpful and friendly.

Walked on to Navy early Monday morning teeing off about 6:45 finishing in 3:45. Many reviews mention the lack of water in the ponds. Two of the water wells collapsed and the remaining functioning well is being used to keep the course watered. I would imagine that the ponds won't get filled again until the military repairs or likely digs new wells. It may be a while. On a positive note the greens are in great condition. They are rolling smooth, on the fast side, and slightly firm but holding well struck shots. The fairways have good coverage allowing roll out. The rough is mostly good with some thin/bare spots and not too penal. The bunkers are a bit compacted and firm but playable. The tee boxes have decent coverage and are mildly unlevel. Always enjoy the variety of holes Navy Destroyer provides. The staff was friendly.

Played Wednesday, 3/2. Teed off at 6:50 finishing in 4 hours. The greens rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held most shots. The new green on 16 has greened up a bit and the sod lines are less noticeable than my last review 5 weeks ago. The fairways have good coverage and decent rollout with a few thin spots. The rough is mostly good with some thin/bare spots mostly found in the trees. The rough is long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The bunkers were in good shape. It appears the bunkers on the back nine that did not have new sand 5 weeks ago have been filled. The new sand in the bunkers is a nice upgrade. The tee boxes have mostly good coverage and are reasonably level. The grounds crew appeared to be prepping the par 3 fifth tee box for new sod.

It was sad to see the players course close but extra effort appears to be going into the overall conditions of the new 18 hole configuration. This is the second time playing the new 18 and in my opinion the new finishing 5 holes provides a stronger finishing stretch than the previous 5 holes (4 of which were added when the players was built). The staff was great.

Teed off this morning at 7:50 finishing in 4:10. The greens are in very good condition, other than a few unrepaired ball marks. The greens rolling fairly fast today, smooth, and held shots. Downhill putts could easily get away if not paying attention. The fairway mostly have good coverage with a few small thin/bare spots. The rough has some thin/bare spots but overall decent and long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The greenside bunkers on the front appear to have new sand. The back nine bunkers are a mixed bag with some having new sand and others being hard dirt. Hopefully it's still a work in progress. The tee boxes are mildly unlevel in spots and coverage is decent. Always enjoy playing Eldo especially when the greens are playing smooth and fast as they were today. The staff was friendly.

Teed off Tuesday about 7:15 and finished in 4:15. The greens rolled mostly smooth despite having bean verticut. They rolled with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had good winter coverage with a few thin spots. The rough is mostly good and not too penal but there are thin/bare spots scattered about. I was in two bunkers today and they played good with plenty of sand despite people not raking their footprints. The tee boxes have decent coverage and are mildly unlevel but the tee markers are set to the width of the tee box so finding a good spot wasn't difficult. I enjoy the layout which has decent variety and rolling terrain. The staff was friendly.

Put my name on the waiting list about 6:25 Thursday and teed off about 6:50 finishing in 3:55. The greens were in great condition other than the new 16th. They rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The 16th green rolled decent but it was more brown than green. The fairways had good coverage with a few thin spots and allowed for some rollout. The rough was mostly good with some thin/bare spots and long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The tee boxes are fairly level with decent coverage. The bunkers on the front appeared to be completed with recut edges and new sand. Some of the bunkers on the back are still being worked on. It will be a nice upgrade when the bunker project is finished. My first time playing the new course configuration. I think I like the 4 new finishing holes better than the 4 holes (14-17) added to the classic when the Players was built. The staff was friendly.

Teed off Friday at 7:15 finishing in 4 hours. The greens rolled with medium speed, were a little bumpy at times, and held shots. The bermuda fairways are dormant but with good coverage and easy to hit from. The rough is cut low with mostly good coverage. The bunkers are groomed and are thin of sand in the bottoms but playable. The tee boxes are reasonably level with decent coverage. Enjoyable enough track with some variety and challenging green complexes especially if the greens are rolling fast. One nice thing is so far the Long Beach courses are maintaining 10 minute tee times. The staff was friendly.
