Played Steele Canyon on 6/27/15. My uncle is in from out of town and wanted to take him to a nice course around Coronado so we decided on the Gary player designed Steele Canyon. There are 27 holes and we played the Canyon Ranch combo. My favorite of the nines is the Ranch; the Parachute hole (all of the holes on the course have a name) is a great picture spot with your group much better than 18th green IMHO.

Overall the course is set up really nice right now and the greens are exceptional. The fairways are green and the ruff is manageable. There are a lot of blind shots and no on course gps if you only have a range finder might want to download an app to see where the dog leg turns. The course overall is very challenging and was a bit more than my uncle and father could handle. Lots of carries and narrow corridors. If this course was a ski slope it would be a black diamond.

There was no one in front of us all day until we caught a group on 17. We payed $79 each through GN. Cart girl appeared 3 times possibly 4. Would enjoy coming back here again lots of different ways to play the holes.

Played here on Sunday 6/14/15. As part of the GK event. The greens were in pretty good shape. The fairways and ruff have been in better condition but overall were decent. Not a fan of the bunkers sand seemed inconsistent depths and firmness. Tee boxes were relatively flat with minor divot damage. I would recommend this course if you are staying near qualcom stadium San Diego. Book online. If you call in you could be spending 90+ dollars teeing off text to someone who booked online and paid 50-60. The cart girl came around a few times the bar has limited food but a few decent beers.

Played Chula Vista on Sunday 1/4/15. This course has seen some better days but with the recent rains it seems to be getting better. I even saw grass seed on some of the bare spots. Currently there are some bare spots on the majority of the holes. The tee boxes were looking better than the fairway with minor divot damage. The rough was pretty thin with the challenge being the bare spots and unevenness of the grass. No complaints about the sand traps. The greens were a bit slow and had some un-repaired divot damage but overall were in good not great shape.

Previously hole 3 was turned into a par 3 and the fairway was closed now the tees are back and the hole is playing as a par 4 again.

I like the fact that this course has 5 par fives (par 73) and a few of them are reachable in 2. If you can work the ball right to left (draw for a right handed player) it will help considerably in preventing your ball from ending up in the hazard that borders the right side of many holes.
The pace of play was much better than previous times ending up right around 4:25. This place can be hit or miss with the pace, sometimes very long sometimes reasonably fast.

My wife, father and I played The Champions Course at La Costa. We did not stay at the resort just a review of the course. The course has multiple tees which greatly leads to the enjoyment of the round. There was no vegetarian option at the turn which at a pricy joint like this I would expect them to have some thing to offer to my vegetarian wife. The lack of estetic landscaping (flowers and such) were also dissapointing at such a pricy golf course.

The course it'self was well maintained with few divot marks and green grass in the fairway and rough in December. From the white tees there are many forced carries and short hitters are able to avoid most of them from the green tees. There are tons of bunkers that are all well maintained with even amounts of sand in each bunker. Either practice your sand game here or practice before and use it here but plan to be in the sand. The greens were well maintained but were slower than the practice green. The course layout had few memorable holes. Overall considering this as a big ticket course it leaves a lot to be desired to be considered worthy of the green fee. I would definitely put this behind Aviara and Maderas if I had a free golfnow code for San Diego county.

Played the Crossings 9/17/2014. After days of extreme heat I expected to find the Crossings hurting but the course was in good shape. The fairways were the best part of the course they are very good no signs of divot damage. The greens here can be bumpy which was the case on a few holes. I was informed they roll the greens on Fridays which would decrease a lot of the bumpiness. The rough was very inconsistent and the worst part of the course very high in some places non existent in others. The tee boxes were fairly level a few of the par 3's had severe divot damage.
Overall I like the course design with multiple tee boxes that allow for short hitters to avoid a forced carry while challenging for long hitters. Elevation changes and tiered greens add to the enjoyment in my opinion. The negatives are that the environmental areas that border the holes can lead to a lot of balls being lost and the way the course is designed you must use a cart.

I played Riverwalk Presidio/Mission on Wednesday 2/26. The greens were rolling really nicely the puts held their line and very few if any ball marks. Fairways and tee boxes were also in good shape. The sand traps had two different kids of sand in green side bunkers some was very thin and brown with very little top sand the other was nice beach.

They have a range(mats only) and a large putting green to practice on but there is no chipping area and the putting green could use a few more holes punched in them. There were times when I was warming up that I had to share the hole with other people and I saw someone practice putting into a hole for sprinkler.

Overall the course is in very good shape.

Played here Friday 1/30. The POP was horrible I normally can stand a long round but 3 hours for 9 holes was too much and I walked off after 9. We complained at the pro shop at the turn but no help. There was a tounament going on but 4 groups waiting on a par 3 is ridiculous.

The course is deficient in overall grass. As a result the course had large areas marked as ground under repaid including a huge swath of the fairway on 3. The tee boxes were largely uneven. The greens were a little bumpy but overall the best part.

I played Encinitas Ranch on 1/11/13. The previous reviews mentioned some holes having work on them but that is concluded.

With the normal weekend price tag of $100 per person the course had alot of live up too and unfortunately it did not deliver. There are great ocean views on alot of holes while the tee boxes and fairways were above average. The greens were bumpy with some ball damage but the main complaint would lie with the fringe which had numerous bare spots. The sand traps were a bit on the wet side. There is often two holes side by side and you can play from the other fairway without a penalty; this and the short distance explains the nickname of "Easy Ranch."

If you really want to see the ocean while playing golf this place has great ocean views which might be its only saving grace but when judged against the green fee it is hard to justify the round.

Played Mission Trails on Sunday 12/15/2013. The practice area has grass and mat tees but the grass area was severly chewed up. The fairways were decent the greens were soft but very bumpy and I saw a few puts bump off line. Back nine is more enjoyable than the front with the lake views. Pretty short par 5's allow chances to go for green in two with minimal risk.

Played Coronado on 12/11/13 the PoP was actually decent when you consider I normally play a 5 + hour round here playing around 4:20 was really nice. The greens seemed to be firmer than I remember them in the past but they would still hold an approach shot. This course is a really great deal especially when you consider the savings of the balls you did not lose. Only downgrade is the forward tees are 5700+ yards with the amount of beginner traffic this place gets would like to see something in the 5200 or even 5000 range. If you are a single or even a twosome I would advise not to book online and pay the fee just show-up and get a little practice in and you will tee off soon enough.
