Possibly the last time I play in the Houston area I picked a winner in Houston National!!!
There are 2 courses here. One is private (Sterling National). The other is this one. I am reminded of PGA West Stadium course while playing here today. Of course, H. National is not as penalizing as PGA West is. The greens were amazingly smooth and true. If there were no sand I would have given them a 10. The fairways and rough have patches of bare ground and divots but are generally well kept. I loved the fact that the ground wasn't so hard. The tee boxes on all of the par 3's were the only thing given low marks. They were thin and too sandy. At 7337 yards from the back tees a low handy golfer can be challenged. Forgiving fairways and roll allow high handy golfers to enjoy their day as well. I wish I could make this my home course! $60 for 2 rounds, cart, a delicious hamburger, chips, and a beer. I will miss this place :( :(

This course is in much better shape than nearby Heron Lakes. It appears at first to be a relatively easy course. But watch out. There are many water hazards in play. The wind and hard ground turns this flat course into a 5 or 6 shot harder golf course. The greens were aerified last week but are healing nicely. This place has an excellent practice facility and driving range. The mats are a little hard, however. The course reminds me a bit of Mile Square.

I don't know where to begin. I decided to play this par 65 course to gain some confidence in my game. What I got was one of the worse kept courses I have ever seen. I have come to the conclusion that to play well kept courses in the Houston area you have to spend at least $50. This course has very challenging, and tight short par 4's. At this time in Texas the ground is hard. This brings all water easily into play. On one hole the 13th the fairway narrowed to just 21 paces between the OB and the lateral hazard. Every hole plays a lot shorter due the tremendous roll you get here. But spray ever so slightly and it is wet, gone, or OB. If the greens where not a 1 but 7 I would be less hostile in this review.

The greens here are much much better than nearby Southwyck. Clear Creek reminds me very much of Links at Olivas in Oxnard. Clear Creek has far more penalizing native areas, however. If your ball enters it will not come out. Combine this with the hot wind and a 4 putt, a lost ball just off the fairway extinguished any life force in me. This is the third course I have played in Texas. All of them including this one have a lot off water hazards. With Golf Now this course was an absolute steal. 21$ with a cart included on a good track. The tees, bunkers, and fairways were all not great but decent.

This course should be called Sadwyck. The greens are terrible. There was one temporary green. The fairways were good to immaculate on some holes. But fair on other holes. The rough well that was rough. It was like playing with the goats. The ingredients are there for a great golf course. It may have been once in the past. There are many nice water holes. I found myself in too many hardpan lies as well. If the greens were just decent the entire complexion of this course would change. You would have to pay me to play this course again.

I finally played golf in Houston area after living here for a year. Cinco Ranch opened in 1994. It is a course that gets lots of play. It shows. The fairways are thin and the greens are a bit bumpy. Everything is in mediocre condition except the bunkers. I thought the sand was of excellent quality. The course reminds me of Tustin Ranch. However, Cinco Ranch has more blinds shots. There are numerous water hazards that you can’t see from the tee. On several holes there are lateral hazards that have grass so thick that forget about it if your ball enters. I like the course but I think I would rather drive farther towards the city and play cheaper muni courses.

December 1989 was the first, today was the last. I have fond memories of many 36 and 54 hole days out here. The course today was very good down to awful. The greens were nice. What was awful was the rough. I don't take a cart, but I could only imagine what a bumpy ride it must be riding in the rough. The are also too many dry patches in the fairways much more than years past. The smell and the flies, an El Prado trademark no longer exist. With the farm now gone near the 18th tee on the Butterfield side you will have no cows or goats making moo's and bah's in your backswing anywhere on both courses. Thanks El Prado for many years of affordable golf.

I have been playing the Sepulveda courses lately because the city now has replay rates. While its bad for business, I like it that golf courses are not nearly as crowded as they where 20 years ago. I can play 36 holes in 7 to 8 hours. Where as in the past it would have been a 10 to 11 hour day. One effect of less revenue is you don't see course marshal's here or almost any other muni on the weekday. So today I saw things I have never seen in my 34 years of golf. A threesome was playing out of one bag. They were driving their carts ON THE GREEN. It is sad when courses become so complacent that fellow golfers have to take the initiative to patrol the ridiculousness of clueless "golfers". Conditions today were overall good. There is nothing here in superb shape and nothing in bad shape either. The greens roll good despite being a bit soft and slow.

The course has it where it counts-fairways and greens-they are in good shape. I would give these slow but true greens a 10 if it weren't for the so many ball marks. Is it the greens? Do they take time to heal? Or do people just not repair them? One green looked like the planet Mercury. The rough is well rough. Lush here, thin there, weeds over here, real ugly. The worse has yet to come...the tees, just awful. The grass is inconsistent and the ground not level. The layout is great, fun, and challenging. It just needs a little more love.

There are many things good and bad about this course. Good: greens are nice, a fun layout where mistakes can really cost you, you must be straight off the tee/have solid iron play hitting to these small greens/and have touch and imagination around the greens. A teenager that can stay out of trouble and score here has already a solid game. Therefore even though Knollwood is not long its a great course to develop your game. Bad: The starter today was lousy, poor customer service and chaos early this morning, There are too many bare spots in the rough and around the green i.e. lots of awkward lies pace of play in afternoon has got to be horrible.....I think I'd rather play Balboa

I got lucky today. The men's club cancelled. I got a crazy Saturday on line deal. I loved playing here when it was a military only course and still love playing here as a public course. The conditions are above average everywhere out here. Although the greens are not pool table smooth, the ball still will hold its line fairly well. I never was in a bunker but the ones I saw looked very nice. The best part might the fairways. I got many good lies in the fairway today. Some of the once ponds have now become waste areas. The "Tiger Tree" on 18 is 343 yards from the back tees. Yes, I could reach it.:)....from the ladies tees :(

The fairways are all dried out right now. They must have had a situation with the sprinkler system. The greens unfortunately have not recovered well from being punched. They are slow with bumps and oscillations in the balls roll towards the hole. They are very green and lush , however. Just not smooth. Right now is more reminiscent of a cow pasture and not a golf course. Even the geese were thirsty.
