Played in a 7am public shotgun today. Started on 8th and finished in just under 4 1/2 hrs. Non SD resident rate of $120 seemed a bit high but was surprised and appreciative of how good the conditions were. We were told they cut the rough about a week ago but we still had great difficulty finding our balls. Could not imagine how the pros can hit it out of the rough before they were cut? It was more than 40 years ago when I last played Torrey and all I can say is it's not the same course. I'm sure it may get more wear and tear but for now, it's a great ocean view course with Palm Springs conditions. Not sure if I want to spend $200+ to play South but for $120 North is definitely worth the money.

Played 11/13/13 @ 11am. Our 2some joined by another 2some. Played here a few years ago and enjoyed it so wanted to try again. Knew it was going to be a long day when we saw 4 groups waiting on the first tee. After the first tee shot, it was pretty much hit and wait all day and the round lasted almost 5 hours. Although pace was slow, course condition was dry but very playable. Tees were somewhat shaggy but level, fairways were dry but well maintained. The only problem I had were with the greens. Greens looked fine and rolled fast, however they just didn't hold the line.
Overall, if you can handle slow pace, it's one of better conditioned courses in the inland and I would recommend it.

Need to update the maintenance alert for this course. They will begin overseed this Sunday and will close thru October.
Went out to Palm Springs again thinking we were going to play a course in normal condition but were told that they will begin fall overseed in 2 days. Course was dry but still very playable. Only problem was holding line on short breaking putts. It's not an easy course to score if your ball striking isn't on so I had a tough time but still enjoyed the layout. Finished the round in just over 3 hours so pace was great. You only have one more day to take advantage of the summer rate so go out and play tomorrow, it's still playable.

Played Sunday 9/22 @ 10:11am. Our 2some joined by another 2some. Finished in just over 4 hours. Only a week to go before overseed so the course was still somewhat green but dry. Front 9 playable but the back 9 had many areas of dirt. Don't think it will remain playable after Tues this week. Although conditions weren't ideal, I enjoy the layout here so no complaints at all.

Just trying to escape this oppressive heat in the SGV, we drove down 80 miles to the Oceanside today. We played @ 1:40pm as a 2some and finished in about 4.5 hrs. Compared to 105 deg in SGV, OGC which sits about 4 miles inland had a high of 90 with cooling sea breeze. Nice escape. First time playing here and glad we came down.
For an old muni, tees are mostly level, fairways are green and lush and the greens are in excellent shape. Very few divot damage in any of the fairways or the greens. But if you miss the fairways, rough had lots of gopher holes and were generally dry and bare. Didn't get to test the sand traps but wife told me it was mixture of sand/dirt on top layer and very little depth to it. Its mostly a short tree lined flat course but holes 15, 16 and 17 will certainly test you before you finish.
As a short, flat old muni, it won't be visually stimulating. But if you're looking for a value course in good condition (and moderate temps), I would certainly recommend this course. We enjoyed it.

We played the Ocean on 6/29 at 2pm as a 2some. As a Links style course, Ocean has totally different feel than the Old. Ocean course starts off with nice ocean view holes on 1 to 3 and ends with great ocean view from 16 to 18. There are no holes matching the awe of the 18th hole at the Old course but in general we enjoyed the view and the ambiance of the Ocean much more than the Old. I'm sure the weather has a lot to do with your enjoyment level as we had mostly sunny, 70 deg with light winds. I'm not a fan of the links style course as I have a hard time hitting irons off the hard turf but it also provides much roll off your shots. We also lost few balls we shouldn't have due to the roll but we certainly didn't let that spoil our day. Course was terrific but we did have problem getting there. Hwy 92 was jammed with people trying to get to HMB and it took us about 2 1/4 hrs to drive the 30 miles. I couldn't spend the $400/nt at Ritz Carlton so maybe I'll have to find some cheaper lodging at the HMB area if there is a next time. I never played Pebble so I can't compare. But if Pebble is much better than Ocean (not in reputation but the view and the ambiance) I would certainly like to play Pebble also. Highly recommended.

Finally went up to HMB to play Old and Ocean. Played Old on Friday 6/28 @ 2pm as a 2some. It's a very nice parkland type of course very well maintained. No complaints at all about any of the conditions. As we played thru the first 16 holes, we found ourselves enjoying the round but not blown away by it. However, when we got to the tees on 17, we finally saw the great ocean view at HMB. Finishing 17 and going to 18th tee box, we were just amazed by the sight. A great finishing hole framed by the ocean on the right and the hotel beyond the green. I think I would pay $100 just to play the 18th hole again. We finished the round in about 4 hours while taking many pictures so pace of play was not an issue. Highly recommended.

Played today @ 10:30am. My wife and I were joined by a very nice couple from Florida who are traveling the country in a motor home playing all the courses along the way. Had EZLink time @ $40/pp. Although recent heat has browned some of the fringes, course remains in very good condition. Since it's our first time here, I played the combo blue/white tees at around 6400 yds which would have been the right yardage for me. However, since balls travel at least a club more in the heat and the hard fairways made the course play much shorter. Also, they had cut the immediate rough area to about 1 to 1 1/2 inches so it wasn't so penal if you were off by a little.
I ended up playing well and scoring well. But for me the course isn't worth a return visit. I just don't like Pete Dye design. Even with the nice gps system on carts, I just can't get comfortable visually. They also had couple of holes where the balls roll down to water on left and the whole fairway tilting left. My partner's great drive to right edge of fairway ended up going into the rocks on the edge of water on left. Just not right. Other than visual intimidation, all the greens were so hard our 4some never had to fix one ball mark all day. All day I saw balls landing in the front 1/3 of the green rolling off the back.
Course is very nice, service is great and I played well. But it's just not my kind of golf course. Even with all the good, I'm not sure if I can recommend.

Played Wed @ 1:25pm. Our 2some joined by another 2some. Finished in 4 1/2 hrs. A friend who volunteered for Kia Classic gave us a 2 for 1 coupon so we paid $160 for the midday rate which starts at 1pm. For the Father's Day weekend of 6/14 to 6/16, anyone can play and pay 2 for 1 so I would suggest if you want to try, this would be the time.
The only negatives were that we had to hit off the mat on the range and a few of the greens and some fairways still had visible aeration holes but it did not affect play at all. All staff we encountered were very polite and helpful without overdoing.
A bit expensive but a great course and great staff made for a very nice day. We may go back to take advantage of 2 for 1 Father's Day special. Recommended.

Played 12/29. Had 8:46 time but due to frost delay teed off about an hour later. Course very busy in the morning but moved along nicely as we finished in just over 4 hours. Nice contrast of perfect green fairways and dormant brown rough. Couldn't find anything to complain about as the playing condition was just great. Highly recommend.

Played 11/14 10:27am. Our 2some joined by another 2some. First time playing here. Expected this to be a premium type of course but was disappointed. Service, facility and staff were good. However, we probably expected more visually pleasing premium type of course. Course recently came out of overseeding so with the exception of the fairways still being relatively thin, all aspects of playing conditions were good to excellent. But in our opinion, it's not a course that can charge rack rate of $170 on weekdays. there are deals for $89 to $110 available but course didn't seem to have any problem attracting players as our group finished in 5 hours for our weekday round. Overall I'd recommend it for its service and playing condition but for us it fell short on value.

Played 9/26 @ 11:30 am. With more courses in PS area closing for overseeding, many players were out on Palm course. We waited on most holes from 3rd and finished 18 in about 5 hours. From tee to green course is in great condition. We were most surprised by the smooth medium speed on all the greens at this time of the year. Nice scenic resort course. Highly recommend.
