If you haven't had the chance - or desire - to play this course lately, you are in for a pleasant surprise. After months of aggravation, all the greens are open and are in very good condition. They must have found some fertilizer also, because the entire course is as green and healthy as it has ever been. There is definition in the fairways, the rough is healthy at about 1" high, and the greens are very receptive. The only drawback regarding course conditions are the bunkers. They all could use new sand and grass removal. Stay out of the bunkers and you won't have anything to complain about.

The new Pro Shop rivals any within San Diego County. Very inviting, well stocked and professionally displayed.

A lot of people may not realize that this course is open to the public Mon - Thur, and it really is not that hard to get on the base. If you have a current driver license, current vehicle insurance and current vehicle registration (same thing you need to drive on state roads), that is all that is required. Don't be surprised if you find a lazy gate sentry who won't even ask for that. The security at this base is becoming more and more lax all the time. Better for us who want to enter for what ever reason.

Green fees during the week are less than $30 which includes cart. Weekends are $43 including cart. The course sets in a valley with no homes - or buildings for that matter -to obstruct your view or ruin the golf ambiance. The golf staff are very friendly and service minded.

As someone who has played this course for more than 30 years, I feel comfortable in recommending it to others - something I haven't been able to do for 4-5 years now. You may find more fancy surroundings elsewhere, but you will not find the serentity and uniqueness this course has to offer.
