I recently played Coyote Hills Golf Course with my wife for the first time and I must say that we were extremely disappointed with our experience there. Upon arriving at the course around 8:30am we pulled up to the bag drop area to find that there was no attendant at the podium. Thinking that he was probably carrying down someone else’s bags at the moment, we dropped our bags off and left them on the rack. We proceeded to park the car and spent a few minutes in the parking lot putting our shoes on and getting ready. As we walked toward the club house we noticed that our bags were still on the rack and there was still no attendant at the podium. When I am paying $125 per round of golf I should not have to carry both of our bags down the stairs and set them up on a cart.

Once we arrived in the golf shop things did not get worse but they didn’t get any better either. When we walked in, the golf shop attendant was watching TV but noticed us quickly enough. He didn’t do anything above and beyond what you would find at a $40 a round golf course. He simply asked for our tee time, told us the price and then took my money. A little extra effort to make chit chat or talk about the course conditions would have been nice.

Once we tee’d off everything was going fine. The course was in good shape but no better than any of the other nice courses in the area. The sand traps were terrible, some of them were so hard and thin it was like hitting off of the cart path. The greens also had a lot of ball marks on them (not entirely the golf courses fault). As we approached the 13th hole our cart died. We used the GPS feature they have to call for a new cart and received a response about 5 minutes later that let us know that a new cart was on the way. We waited about 10 minutes and let a group play through and still hadn’t received a new cart. I called to golf shop to remind them and he assured me that a new cart was on the way. 10 minutes later and another group played through we still did not have a new cart. As you can imagine we were pretty frustrated having just wasted 30 minutes on the 13th tee box. I called the shop again and then we proceeded to walk the 13th, 14th and part of the 15th hole before we finally received a new golf cart. This was unacceptable and the cart guy did not seem to have a very good reason as to why it took so long.

This was our first experience at Coyote Hills and it will most likely be our last one. There are other great golf courses in the area (Black Gold, Tustin Ranch and Strawberry Farms to name a few) that are in the same price range, have equal if not better course conditions and treat their customers much better. It was a very disappointing day of golf to say the least.
