I play 90% of my rounds at Phoenix municipal courses and of these rounds about 80% are played at Encanto. While at first it might seem not very challenging, Par 70 with a Slope of 113 and nice wide fairways for the most part, it can sneak up on you. The front nine is so-so with three par 3's, two of them fairly long at 190 and 200 yds. Number 9 is a fairly straight forward par 4 which plays like a par 5.

Any make ups on the back nine have to be on holes 10 - 13, because 14 is a long par 3 at 215 yds, number 15 and 16 are the 4 and 2 handicap holes, and a lot tougher than they look. 17 and 18 are shorter par 4's but both demand a drive in the fairway because of trees that can come into play. All-in-all, the last four holes are great finishingholes.

I only have two major complaints about the course. The rough can be too rough at times leading to lost balls, and the sand traps consist mostly of less than 1" of sand then packed dirt. I don't think they turn them over very often at all.
