Played 4/17&18. POP for both afternoon tee times was a little over 4 hrs. Greens have healed from aeration and were in great shape. They have firmed up a bit. Well struck shots would stop and others a little run out. Speed was at a medium pace and roll was typical for the Poana in the afternoon. Fairways had great coverage and green. Firming up and cut tight. I was in many traps and they were all difficult. Very firm with little to no sand and seemingly no one raking their mess's. Tees are the trouble spot here and locations were difficult and in poor shape. Overall the course is in very good to great shape except for the tees & traps. Saw the cart girl once on Sat. The course was pretty busy, but pace was good. A short but fun & challenging course. Easy recommend.

Played 3/28/26 1:30 POP 4 +. A very busy Sat. Waited on many shots but overall not too bad. Course was in over all good to great shape. They punched the greens a couple weeks prior. Most had remnant signs of the punching and coupled with the Poana grass, they were on the bumpy side. They were extremely soft. It was actually difficult to not have the ball stop quickly, even on chips & pitches. Very fun to see your shots spin back. I had one shot plug in the green. They were running on the slow side. They should be completely healed in another week or so. I noticed a couple of small dead spots near the fringes on a couple of greens, but most had great full coverage. Fairways have grown in well and were lush & green (Not Paint). Ball sat nice with decent roll out. Tees & traps were the typical trouble spot. Many tee placements had no flat spots to hit from on this day and traps were mostly firm. Greens will improve quickly. Still my favorite twilight course in SD. Although I have heard that they have done away with twilight rates, which really sucks if true. They continue to clear and clean many of the overgrown areas and the course is looking fantastic and continues to improve. New carts with interactive GPS. A definite recommend.

I played here a couple of weeks ago and was just really blown away. I've read a couple of google reviews about bad staff, but my experience was fantastic. They were super friendly and helpful. The course layout was amazing; it's on the short side but with the narrow fairways and obstacles it was super fun and challenging. The greens were fantastic and rolled well, no unfixed ball marks. The fairways were perfect, especially considering they were not overseeded and were all hybrid Bermuda. The greenside bunkers were soft, and the fairway bunker I hit was a little firm just like they should be. The elevated tee boxes were small, and I can definitely see how a lot of play would be challenging to manage but they were level and had great coverage were the markers were at. Looks like they have new carts with gps yardages and geo fencing. I would 1,000% recommend playing. Great value, great course.

Customer service excellent. The chef in the restaurant really kicks some serious butt! Keep up the good work my man. Starter, Gil, was great. Marshall was all over the course doing a great job ensuring an excellent POP at 4hrs and that was with about a 10-15min stop at the turn to use the restroom and grab some lunch.

Course is in overall good to great shape.

White tees need a little leveling and had quite a bit of divot damage because they are so narrow, but just take an extra 30 seconds to find a good spot to tee it up.

Fairways were in excellent shape and getting better. They're doing some cart control with some short fencing which is helping keep areas in better condition.

I didn't find any bunkers, but they looked like they were just fine.

Rough was just fine, especially around the greens. Very few bare spots with consistent coverage and fairly lush, but predictable.

Greens were a little shaggy, spongy and slower than normal, perhaps because of aeration about a month ago. They held shots very well! but didn't putt quite as smooth as normal. I predict in a couple of weeks, they will be beautiful and at that time the course will be awesome on all aspects.

Always an easy recommendation. They've increased the rates a little bit, but they're putting money into the course.

Played 11/23/24 11 am POP 4:05 Course is in overall decent to good shape. Fairways are cut tight and mostly dormant, but have very good coverage. They have painted them green. They play fine with very good roll out, but have mostly tight lies. Greens were in mostly great shape. Receptive and ran well at a medium pace. Noticed many bumps and wobbles, but they putted well. They have done repair work on many of the greens with replacement sod patches. Mostly on the fringes. Seldom caused any issues. Traps firm, tees a little above average for typical Mt. Woodson shape. Always enjoy playing this course with the views, and fun layout and they continue to improve the conditions. I wouldn't call it "Lush", but it is playing fine and it is a easy recommend.

My group had not played Mt Woodson for a couple of months due to conditions the last time we were out there. We were pleasantly surprised to find the course in great shape. The fairways and greens are the best we have seen in a long time. The course still suffers from poor tee boxes. We attribute this to the small size and no ability to recover from play. The other weak point is the sand traps. There a a few good ones but generally they are hard-packed dirt. Woodson is a fun course that requires you to put the ball in the right position. It is back in our rotation.

Played yesterday, Monday, Oct 14, Columbus Day. 12:40 start time. Busy at check in, but went smooth. Guy at the cash register was trying his best to give us a discount asking if we were over 60yrs old, or veterans, we politely said we don't qualify for any of those, so $60 with cart was the rate (not bad for a holiday in my opinion). We teed off right on schedule. Great POP of 4.25hrs, as well.

Course is always a blast to play. It's in fairly good overall condition and will only improve over the next few weeks.

Teeboxes were level, but very fluffy. They weren't mown for several days it appears. Not a big deal.

Fairways were good to very good. Decent roll out, nice lies all day.

Rough was up a couple of inches and could definitely affect your lie. Take an extra club and grip it and rip it.

Bunkers were pretty hard pan underneath and fairly damp. Try and avoid them at all cost right now. You can get the ball out of them, but the margin for error is high. Got to hit it perfectly from the bunker to have any action on the green.

Greens were punched a couple of weeks ago and they were very bumpy and a lot more shaggy than normal. About the only weak spot on the course. In a couple of weeks, I bet they will be great. They held shots very well, but putting was a challenge, I had 39putts and missed about 6 putts inside 10feet for birdie. Frustrating to say the least.

Customer service was great all around, saw the beverage cart a couple of times and everyone in the pro shop and grill area were great.

Highly recommend. Especially when the greens heal and they mow the tees.

The tees have always been a difficult part of the course to maintain from the above average use of irons off most of the tees. They are in some of the worst shape I've ever seen them. Often difficult not only to find a somewhat level stance, but to even find a small patch of grass to hit from. Many of the traps are hard packed dirt. It's really unfortunate, because the rest of the course is in very good shape. Fairways mostly lush with good roll and very nice to hit off. Greens in very good to decent shape. Receptive, but a little bouncy on some rolls at a medium pace. Summer has caused a few trouble spots along a couple green fringes, but most are in good shape. Pace of play was good and temps were warm, but decent. I love the mountain feel of this course and the scenery, so If you can deal with difficult tees the course is still a good recommend.
